Good plan, completely abandon Sark's offense that is renowned for its production because his current QB is not very good at it!

Last year we had two tight ends that could catch, a better O-line, and a better pair of backs. Now we can't run the football and are getting ourselves behind the chains. But Quinn Ewers right? I am glad you aren't an OC.

The Texas insiders all say Quinn is going to the NFL. He walked on Senior Day. If that decision truly has been made, why is Quinn's team not leaking it to the media? It's a total distraction at this point. Sark is getting more pissed as they keep asking him about QE's future.

The only thing that makes sense to me is his agent is actually leaving the door open for another program to throw him a massive $$$ offer. This drama isn't helpful to the team at all, and it's just putting a bigger target and critical eye on Quinn.

The drama from this abortion of a thread isn't helpful either. People have talked to Quinn's agent and stated he was going to the NFL. That wasn't a leak, that was reported.

His oline is better this year, receiving unit is deeper(not as high end talented but just as good as a whole), and he has a better TE. The only position group on offense that isn't better or same is RB position due to injuries. But sure, change Sark's entire offensive identity because a guy in his 3rd year sucks at it.

It's only reported from Quinn's camp if it comes from Thamel. That is who he and his father use to put out news that comes directly from his camp.

You should be mad about that since your his biggest defender. He's more in line with Brock Berlin than he is other QBs of that rating. So in essence he's a disappointment, period. I'm sure you defended Ryan Leaf's fall off like this, yeah?

I see a guy who is the kind of passer the NFL is looking for. Can layer the football. Throws with anticipation on all routes except the deep ball. Is accurate. You got mad after the Georgia game because you expect your quarterback to save you from 3rd and 12 everytime. Equally dumb. You think Arch is going to drop back and convert on 3rd and 12 consistently.

And LOL at Quinn throwing with anticipation on all routes....dude doesn't throw until a receiver is completely open. His only big time anticipation throws are off RPO. Those windows that he's scared to throw into or anticipate are much smaller at the next level. He does a good job of occasionally layering the football and those throws are the ones that wow us but he doesn't consistently do it. See his 10-19 yard percentages off non PA/RPO plays. The throws NFL is looking for are the darts into tight windows consistently, the off schedule throws to 3rd or 4th reads, and the ability to extend plays. Quinn's pocket presence is so fucking dog shit and is a red flag for him.

Literally all NFL offenses need athleticism at the QB position in 2024, now elite athleticism is cherry on top. You obviously don't watch much NFL if you don't see QBs every game making big plays with their legs whether extending a play to find a read down field or picking up yardage to gain.

I don't give a flying fuck how Ewers compares to NFL QBs.  I care how he compares to Arch Manning and Trey Owens.  That's it.  Sark clearly thinks Ewers is the best option.  I admit, @BurntOrange&White and the other elite QB whisperers on this thread give me pause, and I am starting to come around to the idea that the proven professional is wrong, but I'm willing to wait this one out.

Idiots.

His O-line is not better this year. Sanders and Helm are better than Helm and Davis. Baxter, Brooks, Robinson and Blue are far superior to Blue and Wisner. Funny we didn't have an issue running Sark's offense last year with the same QB. A good OC figures it out. Do something different. If you need your QB to do more because you struggle running it then lean on his strengths and spread it out.

Yes, that is what has happened in those games.  Doesn’t contradict anything I said.  We have won all the games but one when outscored in the third quarter.  The narrative is accurate as a continuation of the tweet you posted.

We all understand that you want Texas to win every game 50-0 and particularly wanting Quinn to go per game 35/35 with 450 yard of perfect passing, 5 TD passes, and run for another 2 with oh just a measles 85 yards rushing (no yards lost on sacks).  That isn’t happening.  We are where we are.  I may not like it either, but that ain’t likely happening any time soon.

There is no like, dislike or defending in what I posted. Is the stat misleading?  Perhaps, but at least incomplete.  I added what occurred in those games - winning all but one of those games - irrespective of the poor offensive production in the second halves of those games.  That is what happened.  If you disagree, then post the final game scores of those games and let me know if we actually ended up losing them.  Maybe I got that wrong.

Well, we lost the last one. And the next time that happens, our season is over.

Wrong, only bad organizations draft Anthony Richardson in the first round as a QB based on athleticism and not actual QB play.

Joel Klatt has stated the same about a lack of variation of velocity on Quinn’s throws (the arm talent argument) as well as Quinn doesn’t typically throw receivers open. He just said both again during his preview of the Clemson/Texas game. Linked here at the relevant portion of the video:

Let him go.  What does it matter to us?  Sark has to maintain some semblance of growth in his program, and it's pretty clearly time for Manning to get his shot at the helm.  I seriously doubt he'll be less effective than Ewers after a full spring and summer as the guy.  RIght now?  Eh, that's debateable.

If it was strictly QB play then Quinn is at best a 5th rounder.

Well, you damn sure shouldn't be drafting your QB based on athleticism. If so, should be a late round pick. You are the biggest shitposter here. I'm sure you know that though. Congrats anyway. Quinn will get drafted higher than 5 based off of pro day workouts alone. He would have been 2nd  round at the latest last year had he declared.

Agreed. It would be borderline malpractice to lose Arch to the portal in order to accommodate Ewers for another season based on the second half of this season's results.

It's part of the puzzle, though. Undersized, slow and injury-prone is not a good skill-set for wannabe NFL quarterbacks.

Quinn is a very limited QB who unfortunately has not lived up to his hype. We are thankful for his services during the resurgence of this program, but clearly it's time to move on next year and see if Arch can elevate the offense to match our defense. Fair or not, QBs get the credit or the blame for how the offense functions. That's why coaches bench QBs when they don't score enough.

Now, please play your best in the playoffs so you can get drafted and cement your legacy at Texas as one of the all time greats. Don't make it harder for the defense by turning the ball over and giving the other team short fields. Our defense can win us most games even with a mediocre offense. Hook'em!

If Quinn is going to the NFL then why is he giving vague answers like “we’ll see” to reporters? It creates a distraction when he can just clearly state he is declaring for the draft at the end of the season.

How often do players announce they're leaving before their season is over? Not counting guys in meaningless bowls or backups hitting the portal.

He's doing what every other player still competing for a title does. Plus it sounds like Quinn's people have leaked something since our insiders are saying it's all but official.

I don't think he should go about this differently because he's a popular podcast topic this week. It would also do nothing to quiet the  "should Arch play?" talk.

Apparently Sarkisian sees something in Ewers that Arch can't do. As in, he believes that Quinn gives us a better chance to win for that reason. I don't know what that reason is or likely would be - do you?

When Quinn has been healthy and on his game, he’s been objectively better than what we’ve seen from Arch this year.  But it’s been a long time since we’ve seen that from Quinn.  I think the simplest explanation is that Sark believes a healthy/focused Ewers is the best person to lead the offense this year, and that the Kentucky and A&M game gave him a false sense of security that he would be able to lean on the running game while not asking much of Ewers until he came back around.  That he could kind of hide a struggling/hurt Ewers on O while avoiding a QB controversy and erosion of confidence in his best-QB-when-healthy.  I mean, if that was Sark’s thinking, it obviously didn’t hold up in round 2 vs GA.  but it’s not illogical.

If Quinn had the ability to “step up” and give a clutch performance we’d have played for a national championship last year and would be SEC champions this year. I feel good about Clemson and ASU. If he can just “not fuck up” with bad turnovers against Oregon I think we stand a good chance. That’s the definition of a game manager/bus driver QB. It’s pretty pathetic that that’s about all we can hope for from our 3rd year starter.

We've seen him take it to another level, so it's not like he doesn't "have it". It's just a matter of mentally getting there. The team has been off, what, 3 weeks now? He may be a bus driver against Clemson and ASU because he doesn't need to be big game Quinn.

But let's assume we play Oregon and they don't get knocked out by fOSU/Tenn, Quinn has proven he can absolutely dice through shitty defenses, which Oregon has. Oregon isn't UGA; they have a good offense who will be going against an elite defense, and if the defense can hold Oregon to 20-something, we win that game.

Elite defense > Elite offense

Our secondary has a Thorpe winner, several DE's that can wreck their shit, and our interior (Lole, Collins, Broughton) can rattle Gabriel, and unlike 2 years ago our corners and safeties are much more cerebral and can lay him out.

I 100% agree with his take. Ewers deserves some blame but the lack of a running game especially in the red zone and penalties have killed Texas moreso than Ewers inaccuracies and turnovers (in part because the lack of a running game puts tremendous stress on the passing game).

We have the exact same O-line short of Jones. Jones is better than Williams CURRENTLY is based on penalties alone. Jones also didn't get beat as often as Williams does.

4 out of 5 of the linemen are more experienced than last year.  Banks is banks. The GCG are playing better than they did last year. Cam is a slight step down from Jones but it’s not as drastic as your making it out to be. Overall the line is better this year than last.

Tennessee really doesn't concern simply because Nico isn't good. Their defense is good, but not elite. I would be surprised if we didn't win by 2 TD's.

Georgia on the other hand, yeah. But we did have them on the ropes,so we did learn mostly from our mistakes. IF we meet them again, I think we can beat them with their now frosh QB. We just have to learn to score against them, which is a huge task, I know.

Gotcha. And I'm with you on that. I'd say maaaaaaybe fOSU, but they're below both Tennessee and Oregon. I am hoping for an upset over Oregon so we can lay the wood in our home state against Tenn (the two UT's going at it in Texas). Regardless, Oregon does make me nervous, tho.

Concur. It was an aberration, not the norm. Our defense was so deplorable last year it's amazing we made it to the CFP. But hey, I'll take the loss and move on. But we should have won that game. The last 60 seconds were brutal to witness.

Out of the GCG, Majors is the only guy that got significantly better. Connor is still soft in the run game and Campbell is a roller coaster with Hutson coming into relief. I’m not sure which unit is better than the other, but the only things that are consistent with last year and this year is Banks being elite, and penalties. Flood has got to figure out the penalties.
