Looking at the top pic I expected the ball to be dropped right into the chest of Helm. Second pic shows 6’5” Helm leaping to catch the ball. Excellent play by both QE to recognize the open man, great effort by Helm to go up and get the ball. I don’t think anyone else on this team is tall enough to make this catch.

helm said in postgame that ewers said he was gonna throw it high over the defenders if they got that look in game. helm said go high cause im tall.

I’m the same way. I was critical about Quinn, posted a screenshot of a throw I thought was suspect, and I got humbled by a different camera angle showing how it was a money throw by Quinn.

I have no problem eating shit about a bad take I have as long as it’s backed up with football evidence. People like @Thatguy and @Longhornlove never admit Quinn has faults, blame other teammates and extrapolate statistics to fit a narrative about Quinn. That is what creates the division in this thread because there can be no reasonable common ground.

I’ve been on the side of @BurntOrange&White with my criticism about Quinn’s play minus the nails deep pussy talk, but even I can admit I’m wrong about certain takes. I can recognize when I’m wrong and accept what my eyes can see. See the Helm catch I posted and subsequent comments. That’s why we post here. We want to talk about the football being played by our starting QB, not to rag on Quinn as a person. Once we win the championship this all becomes moot but I prefer we keep arguing with each other based on football instead of feelings until January. Just win baby!

Look at the post below.

Quinn nearly fucked it up for them though. Blue made a good catch.

Quinn has to throw the ball over a free rusher to get it to Blue but instead of seeing that and praising Quinn for a good throw under pressure we are talking about how he nearly fucked it up. Just like you. Some of us just see the game differently. You wanna know why my kid is a soon to be D1 athlete? Because I see the positives and encourage her confidence. You guys are busy tearing down a guy who is the number 3 QB here in our lifetimes and could be two or one depending how this season finishes.

@Codaxx

Couple things I thought you might find interesting.  PFF grades look to have changed so maybe a work in process.  We were 3-6 beyond 10 air yards.  Clemson 9-16.  The 16 is not a high percentage but the 6 is quite low.

Juan Davis played his 2nd most snaps yesterday.  It’s Arkansas then Clemson then A&M.  As for blocking snaps it’s Arkansas then A&M then Clemson.  There are likely clues in there why we do what we do. He’s only pass blocked 18 times all season.

So, unless the clip posted has a really bad view, that free rusher was one of the DT spies and he was nearly 5yds away when Quinn threw that. He did reach and he also employed his 18” vertical to try for the ball after it went by. In a discussion about qb in the game, it’s not our job to look for positives and encourage them or their confidence. They’ve got coaches, teammates and parents for that. This is a message board.

The way it has been going with him 50/50 if he catches it. Maybe tip it to the other team?

In the past 3 games, 13 catches, 3 drops. Struggle with math or what?

That is too many drops although I think it was a fair chance the sun played a part yesterday.

Is Colt a Texas “legend” .

Colt was the winningest QB in NCAA history when he finished his career here, 3rd all time in ncaa completion percentage, won a national player of the year award, 3-1 in games, 3-1 vs Oklahoma. He’s number 1 or 2 in every statistical category for school passing as well.

Well he did not end up #1 in the CFP so BO&W does not think he is.

BO&W seemingly had some childhood drama.

Colt was the best player on his offense and one of the few drafted on those last two offenses.  In my opinion he’s underrated in college football lore.

Anytime a TE pass blocks it bound to be an adventure.

Passing numbers make sense. Quinn threw some more deep, but a lot PI in this game. Texas didn’t ask much of Ewers. That is the way it goes when you threaten 300 on the ground

Not surprised by the Clemson numbers. They abused the LBs and slot. Jahdae moved over to NB for a bit. That is when they went after Manny. I just have respect for the output Klubnick had given how little help he had (0 run game) and who he did it against. Tough to play QB and take something like 20 hits in a game

I don't know how y'all have the energy to keep going on this. Ewers was pretty good yesterday, as he has been many times before. He is what he is at this point - generally a pretty good college QB who struggles with the deep ball and exhibits inconsistent pocket awareness.

He's got a couple of games left at Texas and a change is not at all on the table. His legacy is going to be the QB that presided over Texas reclaiming the B12 title on the way out the door, going 2-1 against OU and kicking aggy's teeth in at the biggest game in Kyle Field's history, getting to the SEC title game in the first year in the conference, and making back to back CFP semifinals. Even if he's had a disappointing year, if you wouldn't have taken that in the spring of 2022 then you would have been an idiot.

Arch will get the keys in a matter of weeks. I think there's a lot t look forward to with an offense structured around a different skillset at QB, but for now just enjoy the ride and hope Ewers plays a ceiling game when it's needed.

Can’t believe some posters think Ewers didn’t have a good game. It was an A- performance. He didn’t make many mistakes. And just a reminder, every QB makes mistakes in a game. Most importantly, no interceptions that were his fault or fumbles.

As has been discussed before, he starts over Manning because he can read defenses better, and yesterday that led to several touchdowns. For Christ’s sake, Texas put 38 points on the board.

People still bagging on Ewers for yesterday are idiots. He may play more up and down games in the future, but yesterday he was very solid.

Finally, it’s important to realize that Sark has been purposely not going downfield as much as at other times. That might be a bit because of Ewers, but it has also been because the OL hasn’t pass protected well enough in some games and hasn’t executed the running game well enough. When that happens no qb is going to look great.

Ewers has deserved some criticism this year, but when he plays well he should also get some accolades.

I haven't been an Ewers fan, but he did have a good game.

Yes the slide instead of throwing it away was dumb, but I can give him that one.

Right there with you.

The older I get the more I believe in the theory that you win upfront.  We harassed Cade a decent amount.  They couldn’t run when needed.  We mostly protected well and ran when it mattered.  Mostly anyway.

As for your QB hits, this is one reason I’m a big Sam fan.  It absolutely impacts your passing game.  And for years opposing defenses want to hit the QB.  Run or pass the hits add up.

Just wondering if you have Wingo’s blocking grade. I know he had some assignment busts, but I thought he looked good when he knew his assignment (add in 2 PIs). His blocking appeared to be a major upgrade from Bond. That might be part of the reason for all the explosive runs. Too lazy right now to go back and see if it was a factor

I do applaud some of the hostile words though since it’s the innernet.

71.8 for Wingo in the run game.  I’ve never looked closely at that but believe that to be good for WR.

Unequivocally the mt Rushmore of Texas QBs is Layne, Street, Vince, and Colt. If Quinn can deliver a title I’d put him on there in place of Layne.

Why? It isn't like you have any.

You might not be cut out for Surly if you can’t handle some criticism about Quinn. You’re the one who kept saying the OL was “tripping” Quinn when he was falling over his own feet earlier in the season. When you got called out on it with proof, you deflected and turned it into a tirade about how everyone hates Quinn. Nobody hates Quinn, they are just calling a spade a spade. I can admit when I’m wrong about my Quinn takes, but you can’t and you double down by throwing everyone else on the team under the bus. Have some respect for the game and own up to your bad takes once in a while. It would stop this thread from becoming a battle between sides when all we want is for it to be a discussion about Quinn’s play.

Please give us your criticism of Arch from what you have seen so far.

Some of us understand the criticism of Quinn but a lot of it is bullshit.

”Oh did you see that one play when he over threw blah blah?”

All I know is Quinn is our QB.

We are in the playoffs again and are the only team that was in it last year that made it this year.

We have another shot at a national championship.

I will take Quinn all day.

Just because I’m critical of Quinn doesn’t mean I’m calling for Arch. This is what is fucking tearing this fan base apart. We can want Quinn to play better without calling for Arch. People like you turn it into something it’s not and it takes away from the football aspect of the discussion by making it personal.

Quinn is QB1, he’s taking the snaps on a team that’s going where we want to go in back to back playoff appearances. But I’m gonna call it out when he throws a bad pass behind the receiver on a 4th down. I’m also gonna eat shit when I thought a shitty throw to Helm turned out to be money when someone else on this thread posted the throw from a different camera angle. THIS IS WHY WE POST HERE. We want to talk about football even if it’s not all sunshine pumping about Quinn that some people want to hear.

Um, no.

In chronological order they are Bobby Layne, Duke Carlisle/James Street (depending on if you go for individual brilliance versus team results), Vince Young, Colt Mccoy.

It's pretty standard to try and put the ball where only the intended receiver can get to it and Ewers usually tries to do that when he's not feeling too much pressure. I've got criticisms of Ewers' play at times, but that pass wasn't one of them. It was beautifully executed by both of them.

Chill brother

Love you man

I get it

QB1 gets criticized for anything that is not perfect

And it is okay

I promise you Quinn is much harder on himself than any of us

I just hate to see him get nit picked

He is a fucking winner

We get that title with Quinn and we’re gonna have to start making those heads on Mt. Rushmore into totem poles and just start stacking our legends on top of each other’s heads. Imagine Sark and this team turning the conversation from “who’s on UT’s Mt. Rushmore” into “who’s head should be on the bottom or top of our Mt. Rushmore” because we keep yelling at each other’s buttholes about which QB had the better championship. What a fucking football life we are about to live. Yippie ki-yay motherfuckers!
