I had hoped Bond would be this guy, and maybe he still could be. But I love me some Golden.

Nope. Bond doesn't run crisp routes and basket catches the ball which doesn't win many 50/50 battles. Golden is a dawg. He is our only receiver going up and taking the ball. Imagine that two point reception was to Bond. No way he catches that, or even creates the space on the break to have the opportunity to catch it. When I said we aren't that great at the skill positions people lost their damn minds. However, each week now that we are playing good teams, we are seeing players far better than what we have. Last week it was Clemson's receiving corp. This week it was Skat. Next week it will be all of Ohio State's skill players including number 4.

Sark's gotta stop his love affair with undersized receivers and go get some AD Mitchell types for Arch to throw to next year. Having receivers that cannot out-elevate a DB is not ideal.

Even the 4th down conversion near mid-field, prior to a made FG, was a great Golden catch. Seemed like a bat shit play call, but even crazier execution.

Yeah, this is why I definitely believe the rumors of us being involved with Noah Thomas.

I think Chris Jackson is recruiting that and pushing for those types of players.

2024
Wingo 6'2 210
Livingstone 6'3 190(apparently he's really coming on in practice according to insiders and should push for PT next year)
Golden(Transfer) 6'1 190

Even though Silas is only 5'9 he plays larger than his size IMO and has a bigger catch radius than Bond.

2025
Michael Terry(Practicing receiver currently) 6'3 215
Lockett 6'2 175 - Nice jump ball high school receiver.
Ffrench 6'1 - People comp him to AD Mitchell
McCutcheon is our Moore type slot guy for the class at 5'11

Didn't Bond high point the catch in the end zone when Bama beat Auburn that made him famous? That was a beautiful throw by Milroe though.

Wait?! What you mean Quinn threw a guy open? Impossible, there are experts on this very site  that just last week assured me he never throws anyone open?!

But the flip side of that might be you're working off the lunar calendar so you might not be looking at things through the most judicious lens.

In case anyone is interested, ESPN's QBR of the 14 starting QBs in the CFP so far, ranked from best to worst, is:

Howard 98.7

Ewers 92
Ewers 87.5
Madsen 86.1
Klubnik 82
Gabriel 74.5
Leavitt 71.1
Leonard 67
Rourke 63.9
Iamaleava 62.8
Allar 56.3
Allar 44.9
Jennings 13.3

Did you look them up individually, or is this an article somewhere?

Just give it to him. He was great the last 5 minutes. Just is what it is with this offense. For some reason Quinn, OL, WR, and Sark found their rhythm. When they are on they are great. When they are off it is pretty ugly.

If Quinn and our OL can handle heavy doses of straight drop back, then we can win next week.

Hell of a job by Quinn and Sark though. I really thought the season was over once our guys started losing their minds starting with Quinn forcing the ball into double coverage and getting picked off.

That last false start by Kelvin Banks was probably also a season saver, that play was not going to go well for us.

7. Texas 39-31 vs. Arizona State Score = 112.0 (QBR 92.0 +20 for win)

Quinn definitely wasn't perfect. At times the O-line wasn't doing him any favors. (Some questionable play calls as well) He straight up balled out in OT though and won the game for us. He raised his average to 88.4, which changed his category to MOST LIKELY NOT A PUSSY!

Maybe our season ends next week in Dallas (or maybe not?), but the man deserves some credit for leading the horns to the semi-finals for the second year in a row. 🤘

Not making it this far wouldve been an abject failure of a season. My expectation for this team before the season started was to make the semifinals. Winning the next 2 games for Ewers is the difference between going down as a legend or just being another guy that played at Texas.

Q made questionable and slow decisions with great pockets and plenty of time.

I mostly blame Sark on going deep INT, that's our coach getting needlessly cute.

Quinn's OT made up for anything he was responsible for.  Ride or die with Q.

Lulz, everything is Sarkisian's fault when Quinn does stupid shit that leads to bad results. Sarkisian is an elite fucking coach, Ewers is a JAGish QB. Yes, it's obviously the coach.

Glad you mentioned this. I’d love to have a Devin Duvernay or even an LHJ as a reliable outlet.

Aint gonna lie. I too have been down on ewers. Thought he was just coming up short. With a different QB I tjought we could win it all. But Ewers really fuckin let his balls drop there at the end.
Cemented his legacy into the Colt level of QB. Damn the kids got ice in his fuckin veins. He never gets crazy worried. Whether its an int or a TD play. He always has that same demeanor. After play celebrations but hea just calm. Dude balled out and he deserves his props. 2 straight years of playoffs, winning Big 12 and getting to SEC title game? Damn we just greedy at this point. Sark deserves a ton of credit. Quinns not a flashy talk trash QB who seeks the limelight like a skatteboo. But the dude is pretty damn good.
Hookem Mr Ewers.

The book is still being written on his place in Longhorn lore, but given the circumstances, 4th and 13 is probably one of the top 5 greatest passes in program history.

Here's my take on history.

You have to wait until a chapter is finished before you know how critical and historical certain moves/moments/plays were in them. Think VY during Kansas and the shift that sat a future NFL LBer on his ass or @ OSU in 2005 then.. of course THE PLAY OF PLAYS vs USC.

The 2025 season/chapter is not yet finished. I'm taking nothing from the clutch that was Quinn’s pass on 4th and 13. It was amazing and fantastic. BUT... before we start saying he or that play are Colt level.. MAYBE we should see if we PLAY for a National Championship first. Not win, but get to one. Little bit of a speed bump prior to that goal.

Absolutely. As much shit as I've given Quinn, and all of it has been true for me and that doesn't change, he dropped his nuts in overtime on that play and the very next play to take the lead for good. And then the 2pt was absolutely perfect placement.

While the 4th and 13th looks easy on tv, we have seen Quinn sail many passes. He didn't put too much air on it to allow Arizona State to recover and make a play. No adjustment was needed by Golden to make it a harder catch.

This is the frustrating part as well, his arm talent is elite when he uses his mechanics correctly. If he had thrown a similar pass to Bond, instead of the floater, it's another big completion and we likely never go to OT. He has it in him to be an elite QB, but he's just so fucking lazy too often.

4th and 13 will be a moment for Quinn, unless he comes out next week and shits the bed all over again against OSU.

In terms of where Quinn falls among the UT greats, I absolutely agree.  But I don't think there's many comparable "make this throw or the season is over" moments in Longhorn history, regardless of what happens the rest of the way.

Agree with all you said.

But, counterpoint:  I can still vividly picture James Brown on roll left.  Your response was to a question about where one fits in “Longhorns lore.”  That fits in Longhorns lore to me.  Meh team, but yeah, still won first Big XII that then lost in the Fiesta.
