Yeah. Now I'm feeling a little guilty. I think it was clear to most rational people that Ewers was injured in some way that involved his core muscles or his back and he wasn't the same guy we saw against UM. Whether it's spin or it actually affected him the rest of the season is up for debate. One of the things people aren't thinking about is that he has to sign a HIPAA release for the NFL and they'll get his meds. If it's untrue, it's likely to get leaked or at least it's something every team will know anyway and it's a dangerous thing to lie about.

2024 Texas was a national championship level team all over the field- except at QB, where quinn ewers was visibly unreliable with the stats and QB ratings/rankings to back up what your eyeballs were telling you. QE was objectively one of the least effective, most unreliable players on a team that absolutely could have won a national title, and he had a healthy and wildly talented backup who’d looked pretty damn talented and dynamic whenever he was on the field.

if you really believe that QE’s frustratingly inept season was because he was playing injured, and that steve sarkisian was willing to lose out on a national title for himself, this school, and all of QE’s teammates when he’s got the 2025 heisman favorite on the bench, then surely you must think gnat Sark is an abject moron who needs to be fired like yesterday. that would be the definition of coaching malpractice. if you can make yourself believe this gobbledygook- shit, gullible doesn’t even begin to describe it.

As with most anything in life, there are degrees. Likely QE was bothered enough for it to affect his play but not enough to get benched (except when he was).

What narrative happens to be the best for Ewers draft stock?  That he played mediocrely when healthy or mediocrely while injured?  Maybe he was injured all year and that was the only reason he struggled, but I would also expect these stories to protect his payday if it weren’t the case, too.  We don’t know, and it will be NFL scouts, coaches and GMs to figure out whether it’s spin or legit.

Narrative works if there are medical records , scans etc to confirm.

I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I think cam ward is the only QB I take over Quinn in this draft. Maybe dart... Maybe. I sure as shit don't take sanders and all that entails over him.

I think he was hurt and when healthy he can run a pro style offense.

I was joking how I was surprised you weren’t here to spin Quinn’s injury. And then I was told it was a pussy move not tagging you in my comment. And here we are. All jokes aside, I wish Quinn nothing but luck in securing that bag.

Man, we got bigger fish to fry in this country than what QE is doing. Y'all have at it. Call me at the combine/Pro Day/Draft.

He had an oblique injury, that isn’t news. Probably wasn’t playing through a full tear.  The media, like this board, doesn’t really appreciate nuance.

Expand

He also didn't technically "play through it." Including the byes he was out five weeks IIRC.

Is there a difference between a tear and a strain besides severity?

You're not. He's a pussy. He isn't a pussy. He's hurt. He's not hurt. He sucks. He's one of the best. He's throwing at the combine. He's not throwing at the combine. It's spin. It's in his medicals records. We all know. None of us knows. It's time to lock and sticky this thread as a Classic and move on to Arch Sucks, Owens Should Starts.

people keep saying this, but this maxim is not going to apply to arch manning. people love to say that the backup qb is the most popular guy on the team, but that’s only when the starting qb isn’t inspiring confidence in the fans. i know it’ll be a shock for a lot of people next season when Arch, playing for a team with less talent and experience than either of quinn’s last two teams, is actually out there playing great football, moving the chains, making plays with his feet, throwing accurately downfield, making explosive plays, etc, but that’s going to happen, and when it does, nobody will be pining for the backup to play, they’ll be lamenting the fact that we wasted 2024 on a milquetoast qb with 0.0% dawg in him.

Back to back semis. Tragic waste.

exactly. even with QE dragging down the rest of the offense and forcing the defense back out onto the field ad nauseam the rest of the team was still good enough to carry him to back to back playoff semifinals. if Arch never goes back to the bench then 2024 Texas wins the title. instead we stuck with quinn, struggled in every phase of offense, and never even made the title game despite the fact that you’re going to look up in five years and see 15+ guys from quinn’s last two teams with NFL careers, including Arch.

Arch wasn’t even good enough to start over still injured Ewers. Your hypotheticals are just that. I’ll trust Sarks assessment of that situation over whoever you are. We lost to the better team. Hope he’s ready next season.

i don’t believe this at all. at no point after he returned did QE look like Arch’s equal. he was objectively poor for the majority of the rest of the season, a skittish, statuesque, self-sack artist who could neither pass nor run with any efficacy. meanwhile Arch is out here throwing picture perfect deep balls, running 22 mph as he makes plays with his feet, stepping into the a&m game cold and singlehandedly scoring in spectacular fashion, and all around just looking tall, athletic, confident, competent, relaxed, and ready to make plays. ie the polar opposite of quinn ewers. we’ll probably never know why Sark stuck with QE, but it is not because he was better in the games than Arch was. not even close.

He actually wasn’t out there doing those things much because Sark didn’t think he was good enough to start over an injured Ewers. Sad but true. Hope he meets expectations next season.
