Where the fuck is @Thatguy because clearly you don’t remember how he constantly said, “yeah, Quinn should’ve…but it was because the OL/WR/TE who didn’t do their job and that’s why Quinn fucked up” instead of just owning it and then adding a layer of “Quinn was so miserable at Texas during the season because fans treated him worse than Garrett Gilbert.” Quinn is a great kid who bleeds orange but the aggy level of delusion that people loyal to him and who can’t own up to his mistakes is what has created the dysfunction on this thread. And then it comes back to “Derka needs help” or whatever the fuck people say because he goes off the rails responding to your shit. Yeah, Derka can’t handle criticism he gets here, but that doesn’t mean he was wrong about Quinn not being as good as some of yall think he was. It’s almost Looch levels of delusion for a young man who is too good to have Looch level type of supporters hanging on his every move.

I don't have time to get in a pissing contest over draft spots. Let me know how he looks when he sees the field. I will be around. I am not going anywhere.

Sam vs Quinn is interesting. I’m envisioning the SuperQB, QuinSam. They are almost perfect complements to each other.

leader - Sam

difficult mid routes - Quinn

long ball - Sam

accuracy (except long ball) - Quinn

durability - Sam

read defenses - Quinn

They are very different QB’s. With Sam’s difficulty in accuracy, I’m surprised he’s still in the nfl. With Quinn’s lack of durability and long ball, I won’t be too surprised if he doesn’t make it in the nfl.

Sam’s accuracy wasn’t great, but the size and length of Collin Johnson & Lil’Jordan Humphrey, plus the speed of Devin Duvernay boosted Sam’s completion percentage and helped move the team downfield when his throws went haywire. The same can be said for X and AD taking off like rockets to catch Quinn’s moon balls that kept sailing for what felt like an eternity.

I don’t recall a time when Sam’s throws put his receivers in a position to get completely rocked the way Quinn’s did waiting for the ball to hit the target. Quinn’s style of play is difficult to translate at the next level. He’s not just putting himself in danger, he’s also putting his receivers at risk. Say what you want about Bond and his serious shit, but he got hurt in the OU game while he was wide open trying to catch one of Quinn’s floaters that turned into an INT.

A lot of people say Quinn just turtled under pressure and fell to the ground. Sam’s version of turtling was throwing those idiotic INTs vs Maryland and USC. The difference I saw was that Sam’s body language never wavered. He never shrugged like Quinn on the field before walking to the sideline after a shit play against Georgia. Sam was locked in even when Herman was chewing gum and blowing his bubbles on the sideline when we all knew the game was out of reach. It seems like throughout the whole Herman era, Sam was the adult in the room.

It really bugs me that Sark supposedly told Sam to kick rocks even though he had another year of eligibility, but Sark must’ve felt it was time to move on. I just don’t see how having Casey and Hudson as the only vets in the QB room was the best option when the whole team was shit because of Herman being an egomaniac. The negative recruiting from the inside and out was real and the culture around Texas was in the toilet with pee charts.

I can’t wrap my head around how there has been little to no improvement in offensive PPG under Sark while he is supposedly a QB guru. I’ve been hard on Quinn but I think a lot of it has to do with Sark and his decision making. Knowing that Bert is dogshit from one side of the field and still running plays to that side is what makes me ragey. I feel like that’s why Quinn looks like shit sometimes with the offense. Sark doesn’t know how to play to the strength of the team and it exacerbates the issues Quinn already has on an individual level.

Sam played tough and gritty and gave it his all, but was limited by Herman’s dumbass hero ball offense that got him hurt every year.

Quinn was given a great offense but clearly held back and played timid to avoid hits. Even if it was smart at times to throw away a dead play, there’s also times where ya gotta make a play. He wouldn’t step up in the pocket or step into throws. Frustrating to watch.

I’d rather have watched Trey Owens go if Manning wasn’t ready. Somebody who can run the offense and make a play rather than panic when the rush is coming.

this same shit was happening all season and showed up worse against a good defense.

1:29 doesn’t step into the throw because the rush, slow ball there not on time, gets picked.

3:14 holds the ball, zero pocket awareness, stands still until sacked

12:00 doesn’t step into the throw, tosses it out to get picked again

14:00 panics when he sees the blitz and throws side arm to get batted down

There’s 20 highlights of our defense playing their ass off to keep us in this one.

We would’ve won this game with fucking swoopsdozer offense the way our defense was playing.

just admit you are wrong at some point

Nobody here wanted Quinn to suck and then get picked in the 7th round, but that’s how it went.

With Tua’s brain being mush and Daniel Jones being…Jones, there’s a good chance Quinn starts at some point next season.

Can we stop it with Quinn starts next season. He has a higher likelihood of being cut than starting next season.

Maybe it’s time we move on?   He seems to be a decent kid.   Good luck to you Quinn.  Thank you for your time here

Fucking this. It’s so cringe watching the hate of a guy who always wanted to be a horn but the state of Texas was retarded on NIL and then he got here as fast as he could. Horrible fans trashing him.

a handful of snaps where the defense knows what's coming

That's on Sark for being so predictable (and for putting the team in those situations with his playcalling) but my point stands: weak opponents are not the best way to assess how Arch will handle the gauntlet of an SEC season, plus playoffs and tough OOC.

So respond like you did. But no one is ever going to tell you that you were right and they were wrong. That doesn't happen. People will stick to the dumbest of ideas and stupidest of decisions (look at Washington DC) for life just to avoid admitting they were wrong.

So rub it in and move on. It's fun

I won’t ever tell Derka he was right that Quinn will compare more closely with Gilbert than Arch. Also, I don’t care enough to argue with a nut job blowhard.

this upcoming season will tell us a lot about why this has been the case. the supporting cast will not be on the same level as it was the past two seasons, but with arch’s bona fide size, athleticism, and talent, i fully expect this year’s offense to be much more dynamic and high scoring. if it’s not, then Sark will certainly come under fire.

and yet you’re always posting about me. if someone searched through your posts for the word derka, how many hits would they get? 100? 200? double that? probably so. it’s as if you’re afraid to have any sort of real discussion or debate with me, so you just spend years constantly posting derisively about me, repeatedly announcing your superiority to me, yet never actually entering into a debate with me. are you in love with me or something? i obviously live in your brain, yet you can’t muster the courage to talk to me. yeah- you love me.

I think Sam would score from the 1. But the fact that we didn’t against Ohio St, has nothing to do with QE. That was on Sark. I remember being surprised when Sam completed a 20-ish yard pass against good coverage. And I was always surprised when Quinn didn’t. Sam ran like a bull and never got hurt. Respect that, but he was never the passer that QE is.

A few metrics for consideration from PFF between the 2.  Sam had the highest passing grade in a single season.  He had the highest single season big time throw rate and also a higher big time throw rate for his career.  His career turnover worthy play rate was lower too although his frosh year was slightly higher than QEs year 3.  4.1 to 4.0.

So there’s at least one reference point that is contrary to your belief.

You should have said I’m more impressed with QEs arm than Sam’s.

Sucks tbat Quinn, but he did it ot fo himself. Self~sacking. Terrible in the pocket, to get hit, throws moon calls, relies heavily on the short game. It is what it is. Throwing from is back foot . He needs a lot of coaching. Hee deserves his flowers taking us oir of the dark ages and taking us to two semi finals, but he needs a lot of work. It wouldn't be a surprise me if he was cut.

Are you going down the path that Trent Dilfer is better than Dan Marion?  That Craig Krenzel is better than, well, a ton of guys?

And by the way I addressed a specific point that had nothing to do with wins and losses.

Seeing stuff like this go around social media is a reminder of another fuckup by Quinn's agent/team.

He was always going pro, but nobody from Quinn's team shot down all these NIL offer rumors. Burton was adamant that he was declaring for the draft, but nothing definitive was said by Ewers until very late. I'd guess his agent probably thought any publicity is good publicity, but it was a completely unnecessary distraction. So now he'll have to deal with this narrative for a long time. So dumb.

Ok, I've kept my mouth shut but this post touched a nerve.

The way Sark deployed Arch at the end of the season was borderline criminal. He had the epic TD run vs. A&M. After that, just a bunch more designed runs that were an invitation for defenses to absolutely tee off on Manning. It was stupid and dangerous to rely that heavily on his athleticism/strength and run the same shit over and over again. Comes in cold off the bench to run a telegraphed play where defenders want to literally knock him out.

Seeing the replay of him getting speared and concussed vs. Ohio State was infuriating. Just a huge fuckup by Sark with how he handled Arch after the A&M game.

I get the point. That said the play worked very well. It may be a great learning lesson for Arch. He had the first down and tried to maximize the run, instead of getting down after he got the first down and avoiding the hit.

That extra effort paid off big time vs. A&M. Arch is itching to make a big play when his number is called one time.

The lesson should be for Sark, not Manning. Don't put him in that position. Arch wouldn't go meathead on an individual play if he knew he'd get more snaps.

Its the playoffs. I get that point if it is vs San Jose State this year, but not in the playoffs. You do what you can do in the playoffs. He thought Arch was the best option on 4th down to help get to a NC game, you have to call that.  I understand Arch trying to make a play, but it should be a learning lesson for this year.

I'm a little troubled by the suggestion that Quinn could have rec'd multiple millions by taking his game to the U of Miami for one more year, but is going to settle for far less in the NFL, and possibly faces being cut by the Dolphins (as happens) - If true, that's gotta be a tough pill for Ewers to swallow. Maybe it will help him get a bit of that killer instinct, that seems to be the biggest problem he had. You could see it in his eyes on the sidelines. If true, he just learned the most expensive lesson of his life. It cost a lot more than a degree from Harvard.

Vince Young had killer instinct. Against USC, he took the bull by the Horns and with seconds left, took it to the End Zone.

I hope Quinn takes that lesson to heart and turns it into a starting role with the Dolphins. He's an accurate short and mid passer. With a good OC, could happen. Good luck, Quinn! Now go make it happen!

Said Quinn looked tiny compared to Arch and Maalik.

In comparison, sure.  Quinn is almost exactly the same size as Colt McCoy -- one inch taller, a couple of pounds lighter.

I'd be interested in hearing from those who know what exactly tends to make a guy "injury prone".  Is it an innate structural issue, is it scheme, is it more of an inability to play with pain, other?  Quinn sure did get hurt, a lot.

It’s because he’s a pussy.

all kidding aside I think it’s something that was brought up in scouting reports. His lower body doesn’t work in tandem with his throwing motion. Sports Hernia and oblique injuries could be from the torque he creates with his body due to that?

getting pile driven onto your shoulder and breaking collarbone and having ankle sprained are self explanatory

So is it time to shit on Arch yet?

Will Arch freeze up against a rush and take bad sacks?

Will Sark have to run the ball every down in the 4th quarter to avoid disaster with a pass play?

Plenty of great college QBs don't have NFL talent. Sam had a lot heart and grit, and that goes a long way in college as long as you have a decent skill set and don't make a ton of mistakes. Sam threw well enough, and was an asset in the run game. Quinn has the better arm and vision, but he had zero mobility (why did Sark call so many zone read type plays where everyone in the stadium knew Quinn would never keep it?), throws off his back foot, not a great deep threat, yada yada. I think the 2024 team would've had a better chance to win a championship with Sam at QB, but it's also possible Sam could've made mistakes that cost us a regular season game or two. Sark would prefer Quinn because he's so sure his system is brilliant and Quinn is a precision instrument he can plug into it. Sark's strategy and situational playcalling has to improve, no matter who plays QB.
