Yea, but that little td scamper by Arch scares the shit outta ousux, jawja and everyone else. But, right now Quinn is our best bet forward when he's recovered.

I doubt it scares the shit out of any good team. If I’m playing Texas, I’d much rather have him trying to run the ball so we can get shots at him than have him looking at second and third reads from the pocket. He’s no Wingo, Bond, Cook, Golden, etc.

It’s not a look they’d see with Ewers in the game, so that’s something, but I doubt it’s going to keep anyone up at night, especially knowing if Manning is in Owen is probably next up.

Did not say or imply that Arch was a running qb. Just that he is not a statue. And Quinn is the man for this season.

Quinn isn’t a statue, either, though, so I’m not sure how much actual difference there is other than one looks to find secondary receivers better.

Not telling anyone anything they don’t know, …

The whole Heisman discussion at this point is of course ridiculous. He was on fire when he went out. We’ve got a scrimmage next week and SEC roadkill the next game.

He picks up where he left off and we steamroll our way to the Conference Championship nobody will even remember he missed a couple of games and he’ll win it.

And…in the worst case scenario that he’s out for an extended period of time…well then no shit, he won win the Heisman.

If his odds continue to fall a couple hundred would be a worthy investment

And I’m agreeing with you other than the claim that the DCs at top programs are scared by that run.

I was kinda being surly with that statement. but it will give the DCs something to think about.

Thanks to Sark and co, we are in pretty good shape.

Agreed. I mean, Sarkisian says that’s never what this offense is going to be, but it’s something they have in their back pocket. Honestly, though, if I’m in the position and Manning is the go-to guy, if I call anything like that Manning slides at the first sign of impending contact and I have  a pass built off that look.

Arch is definitely a better athlete. They claimed he hit 20.7 mph on his TD run. I do think Arch will eventually surpass Ewers, but that day is at least a year or 2 down the road. Arch was a little slower to process reads. Missed the blitz. Not surprising for a kid getting his first real action. Arch will likely get there, but his ability to read defenses is behind Quinn’s right now. I hate to see Ewers injured. It’s never good to lose a starting QB, but if it had to happen this was perhaps the best time for it. Arch getting some live bullets has the potential to really help this team down the road

Yeah that was definitely a welcome to college football moment for Arch. That might have been an injury against UGA. Kentucky’s QB was getting lit up on basically every throw late in that game last night. These are invaluable reps for Arch and we’re lucky they’re happening against lesser opponents.

Also, we might not be talking enough about how well Quinn and Arch have handled this situation.

It's a credit to each of them and to the coaching staff.

We legitimately have 2 of the top 10 quarterbacks in college football without really having a quarterback controversy.  That's pretty remarkable.

I was thinking about Mack Brown's idiotic comment after he was all butthurt about the Sims-Applewhite thing "if you have two Quarterbacks, you have no Quarterbacks."

Um...no Mack. If you have two Quarterbacks, you have two Quarterbacks which might be a really nice thing if one were to...I don't know...get injured at a key moment. It would sure be unfortunate if that were to happen to your team after you worked so hard to never have a QB controversy again.

Look, I get what you are saying but if you get injured ever year you play football including now a freak injury you are certainly injury prone. Bad luck can be part of that equation but the reality is Ewers gets hurt a lot. At least now we have a legit backup QB to get us through unlike last year when we were holding on for dear life when Murphy stepped in.

With apologies for the pedantry, that's actually not what 'prone' means. 'Prone' isn't backward-looking--how many times someone has been injured in the past--it's forward-looking, i.e. more susceptible to injury and therefore more likely to be injured again in the future, which I am positing is not the case.

I may be wrong, but I'm hoping for the best for Quinn's future and for the team's prospects this year in what could be a special season.

He's getting those odds because the casinos know some people are dumb enough to take them and he's going right back to the bench as soon as Quinn is healthy.  As he should.

Arch's talent level is almost shocking.  But Quinn is the better all-around QB at this point, and it's really not close.  Quinn does not take the sack from behind that Arch never saw coming last night.  Quinn is battle tested in big games and Arch isn't.  Etc.

Arch is gonna be great, don't get me wrong.  But Quinn is already there.

People seem to be forgetting the lumps that Quinn took to get to where he currently is. We don't get Bama and Michigan Quinn with out first getting 2022 OSU and TCU Quinn, Arch is going to have to have those games to be as good as he can be but it's going to result in an L or two for Texas.

Very pedantic. You only earn that description when you get injured a lot. He’s been injured multiple ways now and it’s very reasonable to say the guy is injury prone. He’s had bad luck (Anderson landing on him), poor decisions (going head first in the Houston game) and strains and pulls associated with a body that’s prone to injury. Ewers is injury prone.

Reminds me of Whittington, who had the hernia issue from high school, and then in 2021 he broke his clavicle during a tackle and people were saying he would never be healthy.  Those injuries had nothing to do with each other.

But Trey Owens os 6’5 220 and showed a lot to me last night   He’s built for the long term and I think he has the highest upside of all 3.

I realize that some of posters are wired to dismiss the premise that humans often incorporate emotion into their decisions. Folks only used objective data points and then act. Right.

Tell that to the NFL. Part of the feedback that the Ewers camp received when thinking through whether Ewers would come back was that many teams would like to see him play a full season and stay healthy. It’s impacted his draft rank. Argue over whether terms like “injury prone” are appropriate or not, but in the real world, his injury history is a mark on him and last night didn’t help.

This. Our evidence for what is likely in the future is what has happened repeatedly in the past. Prone doesn't inherently refer to the past or future anyway-- in this usage it merely (figuratively) means inclined (toward).

That team had a lot of holes and Quinn was still very raw. Arch may have some struggles but I doubt it'll be that bad. He's stepping into a much better situation.

I have to ask....it seemed to me that the play before Ewers had to struggle to get upfield that he handed to the running back and was then clobbered.....I do not remember a QB getting injured on a hand off before, but after that play he completed one pass.....struggled to get upfield ....ran one more play untouched and just went down.

Did I miss something?

Clobbered?  That was pretty light contact.

You pull a muscle from exertion not contact anyway.

On the hand off he didn't get clobbered but the defender did kind of hook him in his abdomen and spin him around.

Are you emotionally invested in Quinn Ewers in such a way that what another poster believes would bother you?

Texas has multiple high picks in the QB room. I hope Ewers gets back quickly for the overall depth. Will I give a shit if Manning takes over the starting role because Ewers is sidelined for weeks? No. I also won’t give a shit if Ewers is out for weeks and then is immediately the starter again.

Acting as if Manning couldn’t take over and never look back if Ewers can’t go for awhile is silly wishcasting or shows a general lack of understanding the game of football while watching. Manning has looked good every time he’s been put on the field, he wasn’t ranked the #1 recruit in the country for nothing, and the more snaps he gets under fire, the smaller the gap gets in terms of understanding this offense and the looks defenses are going to give it.

Quinn’s MRI today needs to go well and he needs to get back asap so none of these possible futures play out and muddy up the season.

No, I’m not emotionally invested. I’m asking what your opinion is.

Wally Pipp didn’t take over for “weeks.”

The “if Ewers can’t go” is the crux of the issue, though. If Ewers can’t go, of course Manning plays.

A photo of Wally Pipp doesn’t imply “waiting for Ewers to be good to go,” though.
