Yes. Yes he was. Cam was beat to the inside. If Quinn doesn't move, that defender likely gets an arm on him. He is literally standing right next to Quinn's drop back point right after Quinn scrambles/stumbles away.

False. Cam reestablished his block but by then Quinn was already in pussy mode. AND if he was beat inside why did Quinn pussy foot the wrong direction? Just overall a giant pussy play by Quinn.

YOu keep saying Quinn isnt perfect, but you expect everyone else to be perfect. Cam got beat for moment and was too deep, but he recovered and had that guy locked up. Wasnt ideal but take a few calm steps and that is all good. Tripping over his own feet made that a much worse situation.

Williams had a way worse game than Ewers. He stunk up the joint and there's no way around it.

27 yards but underthrown ball that Moore had to adjust but yes he have a long pass. That was his longest through air connection since the Michigan game to Bond(33 yards).

The ball placement was perfectly fine. For fucks sake

Not sure anyone said Williams was better. This is what I meant about my "switching from MSNBC to FOx" statement (edited after your response). Not sure why every play has to be Quinn was awesome/someone else sucks or he is completely incompetent/everyone else is great. Sometimes it takes 2 guys not being on point to screw up a play

It doesn't matter if Cam reestablished the block given that he reestablished it where the defender could easily swipe down on Quinn with his right arm. We've seen plenty of times this year where a defender makes that play. Now, Quinn's reaction was bad. He should have taken a step back and to the right rather than making things worse by going left, but that doesn't change the fact that he was absolutely in danger of being sacked if he stayed where he was.

This place is like switching from MSNC to Fox.

Ok so the MSNBC Fox comment was funny. Had Quinn not stumbled away the defender gets a hand on him whether Cam reestablished or not. The reason why we are talking about Cam is because your boy posted the vid as an example of Quinn being a pussy with no mention of what went wrong in the first place.

that really shouldnt have been such a big deal, but Quinn struggles with his gap escapes and in this case his feet. Just saying both players get a D+/C-.

Again. Agreed. My argument has never been Quinn is perfect. We know who he is athletically. When he gets to the league whoever drafts him will understand he needs to be behind a good line.

Quinn had moved to the left by the time he tripped over himself, so you're technically correct.

Look at where Quinn is standing:

Now look where Cam is standing half a beat later:

image.png.e60c3641bc06d9f2b2dd93e6e432aa1e.png

The defender has pushed Cam right into where Quinn was standing in his drop back. If Quinn is still there, Cam is stepping on his feet and the defender's right arm can easily swipe at him. He had to move. He just moved the wrong way. Staying still absolutely results in a sack.

It's wrong to say Quinn played it correctly. But it is also wrong to say he was not in danger of being sacked.

Pretend for a second this was an NFL team in an NFL game.

Now imagine what people who expect the highest paid most important player on the team to do in those situations.

As a college quarterback Quinn is doing fine, and after Vandy its on the side of pretty good. In the frame of reference that he's going to play at the next level it's laughable.

That's why when he played against NFL caliber defenders with his NFL caliber Oline and WR corps and looked like he didn't belong it was such a huge red flag moment for so many people.

The issue with the rest of the season is that in the playoffs it's going to basically be NFL development level talent the whole way through and that's what people are concerned about. Quinn has shown that he doesn't have the "it" factor at that level consistently. Sometimes he does, because when Quinn is on like he was against Alabama and Michigan he's unstoppable. That's a big part of what makes an NFL QB an NFL QB, being able to get into and stay "in the zone"

Some of you don't like the word choice of pussy and that's fair. What I mean is Quinn lacks the ability to turn on and keep on his killer instinct like the highest level professionals do. That's something that develops over time and when people refer to "the game slowing down" for elite players that's what it means. They are able to adjust their mental intensity to have the focus that is required to perform.

Is it fair to expect Quinn to look like an NFL starter? Probably not, but that's what he's positioned himself as and that's the social contract he entered when he took the NIL money he took.

It's as if none of you jackwagons pay any attention to the NFL at all. Anthony Richardson starts games in the NFL. Spencer fucking Rattler started games this year in the NFL. Fucking Gilbert Grape started games in the NFL. Stop pretending the NFL is full of perfect QBs playing perfect football or that any of these QBs is a finished product.

Difference with those listed is their arm strength and ability to thread passes into tight windows.  Ewers can get the ball downfield, but his slow developing, looping throws needs to change.  I can get over his style of passing, but if he can't speed up his decision making in the face of an aggressive pass rush, he has no chance.  Without a consistent ground game, putting pressure and forcing bad throws is a good strategy to force him into make poor decisions.

100%, but the NFL isn't necessarily looking for great CFB players, they look at metrics that they feel are a must-have in the NFL.  You could argue Pavia is a much better CFB player than all those mentioned - zero shot of sniffing the NFL.  And they miss, a lot.  It's far from a perfect system, but on paper I can see what they are looking for in terms of a cannon for an arm and some measure of mobility.

Tom Brady has talked about this recently and I like his theory about why that is. I watch less of the NFL than I want to because I have a young family and I can't spend 2 days watching football anymore but I keep up with it enough.

Clarifying edit - not directed at Pam

Also feel free to start your own website, or NIL program or tailgate or community. Oh wait you won't, because *insert a whole bunch of excuses*.

There’s very little in this world that’s is as “pussy” as being a chronic message board poster to the tune of averaging 4,500 anonymous posts per year, calling football players “pussy” and when not doing that, obsessing over where teenage boys are spending their weekends in the fall.

I’d really like to come across BOW in real life and verify my mental image and assumption about what a loser fuckstain he/she/they are.

The NFL doesn't bust protections as frequently as we do. They blitz, but on the back end of a blitz there are less guys playing defense, and the receivers being pros know what to do when that happens. In other words Quinn will be surrounded by people who do their jobs at a much higher rate which will help hide his deficiencies. Most guys who don't make it in the NFL either struggle reading defenses or are simply wildly inaccurate. Quinn is very accurate on everything but his deep ball and I honestly think even that is just a confidence issue of being afraid to overthrow it.

That depends on what team you go to in the NFL. If all NFL OLs were good at pass pro the bust rate on QBs would be near 0

Apparently in the pros runners are better, receivers are better, corners are better, o linemen are better, but somehow not the d line so qbs are always afforded perfect protection.

This is some good stuff.  An element of most everybody correct except a little over the top about it.

It’s the YouTube effect.  Everybody’s an expert now.  The truth when watching live you don’t see all the action.  People go off that feel, which generally most people are terrible.

Then they’re terrible after they’ve reviewed the film when talking relative terms.  What is reasonable and what is expected.

At the disgust of Hank Hill and @HenryJames, bless his soul, I am going to reference PFF.  Pressure rates on QBs vary from a bit under 20% to over 40%.  You may have a few outliers on the extremes.  So the very best over the course of the season are allowing pressure quite often whether that’s a missed assignment, getting beat, maybe the QB missing the read.  That Willisms play Id guess doesn’t even register as a pressure.  There’s no clear path to the QB.  That happens all day, every day.

When talking bigger picture, we are now talking that Ewers can light a defense up but needs protection.  That’s true for any QB that ever played.  Play makers matter.  Same for any QB that ever played.

For me, I’m not a traits guy.  Many of you are.  That’s what Ewers often is.  He can sling it and he threw that no look pass once.  But it’s consistency of effort that he needs.

He led us to wins, a Big 12 championship.  All those other bums couldn’t.  To compare those environments to this one is not comparable.  To compare the talent is not comparable.  The experience is not comparable.  Sark as OC to his predecessors.  Ok.

Things like OFEI/DFEI and PFF are doing work for you.  They are imperfect, but they tell you things too.  And in relative terms for you to compare.

Here is what those things have said. Our DFEI ranks higher than OFEI in 2022, 2023, and 2024.  Yet the critique of the overall defense last year is less than positive, but you can argue from that metric that our defense was every bit the reason that we won a championship.

As to Ewers himself, his grades and metrics relative to his peers shows that he was barely top 20 last year, lowest of the final 4 participants.  Below all the first round draft picks.  This year he ranks poorly including several horrid grades.

The offense last year was absolutely loaded with talent.  Like never before at Texas.  The NFL draft told you that.  Their recruiting profiles told you that.  Their combine results showed you some uniqueness.  The offensive line may not have been spectacular last year or this, but it’s a very solid unit.

The negativity is over the top.  We’re right in the thick of it.  We’ve seen the most talented team, and we know there are opportunities.  But Ewers also gotten too much credit given all of the above.  It doesn’t mean he hasn’t had some great throws or games.  At a minimum he’s inconsistent and he hasn’t carried the team on his back at the end of games like Vince or Colt or Sam.  Even Case pulled the rabbit out of the hat twice.

Lol  We all hope he does good vs Florida some of us are just very skeptical at this point.
