Quinn "La Joya" Ewers - The Man The Myth The Mullet

Coach pop a bitch

I think we protected ok today. Some of those sacks were on a Quinn for sure.

The lack of run game is frustrating. I am putting that 60/40 on the backs vs the OL.

The inability to pick up 3-4 yards consistently, inside the tackles, severely limits the offense.

Down the stretch he’s not playing ULM and Miss St. now tell me how he did against UGA in two drives? I remember two three and outs and a fumble. Which QB has won on the road in a hostile environment, multiple times? Yeah arch is going to be a fucking stud, he’s not the guy this year.

It's on the backs. They're not big enough to move the pile or pass block. I don't understand why Sark doesn't use Gibson more. He can at least move the pile, and at the very least he's as good at pass blocking as Blue/Wisner.

We lost that ability when CB4 went down. We have to pass to set up the run.

He had the longest play of the half on a scramble

Quinn throws fastballs?  News to me

He did 3-4 times today. Because hes lazy with WR screens, outs, and some stops/curls, the board has opted for hyperbole that he isn’t capable of firing it, instead of watching every fucking throw.

16 minutes ago, gurt said:

I don’t know why Sark bothers with deep posts. He cannot hit them. I don’t really recall any of the top of my head outside of the one to Worthy against Bama.
He can throw a good go route at times but the post is probably less than 10%

He absolute can. He’s very streaky and not had a particularly good stretch but there have been games where his deep ball was a primary reason we won games. He will hit some in key moments down the stretch of this season that will win us games.

lol… that is what we do. Which is half of what this thread bitches about. All those short passes are “runs.”

The inability to line up and run inside and getting safeties and linebackers to lay downhill does limit the passing game significantly

I don’t think any of the 3 sacks were on the OL today. If you are being reasonable, it’s easy to admit that offensive performance we saw today isn’t  going to work vs better teams.

Counterpoint: Arkansas is not bad -- they beat Tennessee and almost beat aggy, and they got up for us.  Quinn missed some throws, but he also threw two TD's and 0 picks.

Do we need him to be better to win 3 or 4 playoff games in a row?  Absolutely.

But the notion that this is a guy we can't win with kinda misses the point that he already won a conference championship and had us a play away from the national title game.  We *know* Quinn can play better.  We just have to hope he works his way back to where he's been before.

This is a bullshit narrative that needs to stop. Arch practiced with the 2's all week in the lead up to UGA. He was not even supposed to be in the game to begin with and he was given half a quarter of play time. There are zero fucking conclusions to be drawn from that experience other than that UGA had Sark's number in that game. The end.

Quinn gives us zero chance to win anything. He handcuffs this offense to no end. There's nothing to lose rolling with Arch. Quinn has wasted so much WR talent here.

You mean the guy that almost got is there last year?

Absolutely not. No team is gambling a day 1 pick on a person with his now well-known deficiencies. Shedeur and Cam will mame day 1. Quinn wont.

Yes he will. The dearth of starting caliber QB talent is extremely evident in today’s NFL.  And NFL GMs are dumb and clamor after top flight arm talent, which he certainly has. I didn’t opine on whether or not he’d be successful or not.

I’ll caveat that with if he plays like he did today in key moments down the stretch this year, he could cost himself a 1st round. But 5th is laughable. Rattler went 5th. Hurts went 2nd.

There's an interesting phenomenon regarding Arch with Texas fans right now.

FTR, I was always about Ewers starting this year and Arch taking over next year.  Arch looked miles better in the Spring game this year though, and it was clear he already made a big leap from his freshman year.

Arch had 5 touchdowns in about 20 minutes vs. UTSA. He was off early against ULM but finished strong. I think a lot of people dismissed his performance vs. Miss State the following week due to the score being close until the 4th quarter. Go watch that game again. Arch was really good. Fumbles by Blue and a shit ton of offensive penalties is what kept that game close. For a guy who had unreal hype, Arch is now actually being underrated by the fanbase.

Watch the tape. Watch the footwork. Watch the urgency he plays with. Watch the quick release. Watch the deep balls. Watch the intensity and excitement.

The QB situation is what it is. If Ewers went down with a season ending injury vs. UTSA, I promise you this offense would be way more dangerous and explosive right now with a seasoned Arch at the helm. And I'd guess we'd still have the same W/L record.

I absolutely *don't* know that. Quinn can do certain stuff really well and he's atrocious at other things. I have not seen any meaningful change in the things he is good or bad at. He is who he is. When he's playing "better" it's usually because the defense we're going up against can't take away enough of the things he is really good at.

It's really and truly as simple as that. He's good at enough things that there are maybe only 6-10 teams that can take away enough of them to really expose how limiting he can be on our offense. But I am willing to bet that most of those 6-10 teams will end up in the playoffs, and that spells trouble for us.

I see it differently... Even when he can't hit the deep ball, the only thing that really makes him struggle is pressure.

We will see soon.

Show me where I "jacked off to Arch" in that argument. I'm happy to wait, but you can't.

My point was only that 2-3 unplanned drives against a team that had our gameplan down cold is a statistically insignificant data point with which to draw any conclusions about Arch. To be clear, he didn't look great in those drives. But it is by no means incontrovertible proof that he's not ready, despite how often people like to point to it as such.

If we can run the ball the offense hums. If we can’t, it struggles.

The run game is inconsistent due to the RB situation.

Kinda sounds like the difference between almost very good and great offense.

Finally someone who gets it. Quinn cannot hit the deep post. He almost always throws it vertically yet Sark keeps calling it. Quinn can throw vertical routes we just don't run them often. When we have called them he has thrown them decently. He can throw a deep dig solidly too.

You have to take those shots to keep defense honest from teeing off on you.

Chicken and egg argument. You know what would make it a lot easier to run the ball? If we had a credible deep threat that kept the safeties 8-10 yards off the LOS.

Our conventional run game is not intimidating, but if you add in the screen and swing throws (which are effectively stretched run concepts) we generate a respectable amount of yards. If we had someone that could throw over the top of the D as they start to creep up to shut down the shorter stuff, we'd be hell on wheels.

No it’s an inconsistent qb that can’t hit teams deep to loosen the box.

How did his two drives end?  One drive had a three and out with a penalty to reset the drive with another three and out the other with a fumble when he held the ball too long.

but yeah the scramble was nice. It ain’t beating A&M and it ain’t doing shit down the stretch for a title.

Now that your meth has worn off, you should look at a replay of that throw and see it was way too far inside and too low. Helm made a good effort just to get a hand on it. Ewers just needed to throw a catchable ball and instead gunned it way off target out of panic.

Agreed that you have to take deep shots but we keep running the same shallow cross, deep post with the dig coming behind it route combo. That is the number one we throw deep out of and Quinn misses the deep post .Every. Single. Time! He just can't throw that route. Any other deep route he has thrown this year has at least gotten hands on the ball. That one doesn't fit his eye and Sark WILL NOT give up on it.

They just gave up 800+ passing yards the last 2 games. Let’s not try to twist this Arkansas team into a legit power. They also lost to the worst Gundy team in a decade

Really?  You don't remember that he used to be significantly better at the deep ball?  I believe that he's still in pain, and the more he has to wind up the more it hurts, and therefore the more it's in his head.  I could be wrong, but that would seem to fit.

I don't understand how anyone can say that they don't see a marked difference in Quinn from last season and the first three games of this season to Quinn in the last five games since he returned from injury.

Now, I was among those who said that if Quinn isn't 100%, then Sark is wrong for playing him over Arch.  But that's a separate conversation.  We *do* know that Quinn can play better than this, unequivocally, because he's done it before, and not for some small sample of games.

Yep. We see light boxes every week while safeties are 12 yards deep. The only time we see a lot of bodies around the LOS is when they are bringing pressure or simulated pressure.

He did it last week against Florida. His 1st 300 yard game of the season and 5 TDs. Today he reverted back to the shitty QB he has been before Florida. That's what really sucks, we thought he turned a corner, but nope.

He was below average last year. He's outright horrible this year. I agree there has been regression, but it's not like he was throwing great deep balls last year.

His approach to the true vertical throws (30+ yards down the field) has always sucked. He throws with an insane amount of loft to a general area of the field where he thinks the WR might end up. It's never looked like he's gauged the speed of the WR and the leverage the WR has on the defender and placed the ball in a calculated window. It has always looked like he's taking a guess and hoping for the best. He guessed right a few more times last year, and it happens that two of those guesses came in one of our biggest games of the last 15 years (at Bama).

He's never been good at it and that's not going to change this season, and likely not at all.

In the November 9, 2024 game against the Florida Gators, the Texas Longhorns' skill players had 277 yards after the catch, which was 83.2% of Quinn Ewers' total yardage.
