Quinn did not lose this game, but he failed to make plays to critical moments in this game. That has fans frustrated. At some point they want to see Quinn win a game and make plays in big moments. I just think Quinn is Dak or Cousins. Good enough QBs to put up stats and play, but not guys you trust to make plays in critical moments.

This is where I’m at. I just hope we can score outside the red zone enough to make a decent run the playoffs.

The cake is baked at this point.

How can anyone blame Quinn on this one?  74 takes himself out of position, Majors snaps the ball as Georgia's players have forward momentum (there were about 10 seconds left), and the receiver is interfered with you can see the arm wrapped around him while the ball is in the air.    0 isn't even looking for the ball and Helm is getting hugged downfield right next to the official.

It’s an atrocious throw. There’s no reason to discuss further. It was intercepted because it’s a horrible throw.

It was a poor throw but your acting like Bond had no chance to catch the ball. The throw could have been a lot worse than it already was. I’m not sticking up for Ewers and saying it was all on Bond. I know it’s hard for this thread comprehend, but multiple things can be true on a single play and this is one of those imo.

The throw couldn’t really have been worse at all. That’s the only place you can miss and it be intercepted. He could miss the same 5 yards in the opposite direction and it hits ground. I’ve literally said he could have caught it. But that really doesn’t matter at all. It’s a horrible throw and that’s why it was intercepted. There’s no point in discussing whether it could have been caught because it should have been routine.
Putting any blame on bond is asking for him to make a fantastic play because Ewers couldn’t make a basic one. That’s my only point.

It's a technically catchable ball, but as a receiver you aren't expecting the ball to your inside shoulder on an out route and he never knew where the ball was. He could have caught it, yes, but the responsibility of the quarterback is to put the ball in the best spot for his guy to catch it and Ewers doesn't.

It’s not hyperbolic at all to say QE is the third best QB this school has had. Naming some QBs that have some really neat-o cardboard cutouts in Belmont who existed before the forward pass, civil rights, and toe-punching kickers isn’t a flex on me not understanding the history of our program.

Most NFL GMs always fall in love with arm strength and measurables. See Anthony Richardson and the legendary bust from LSU. He will get drafted but he will probably mentally burn out quickly or be a long term backup. The NFL won’t coddle him like Sark and I don’t think he’s physically changed much in 4 years.

Quinn doesn’t have arm strength though

It's a bad throw. Poor mechanics due to anticipating a hit, short arms it, ball comes out off target and without enough zip.

We aren't playing the Texas Techs of the world anymore.

It's not, but that's more of an indictment on Texas QBs over the years.

I actually think Ewers is slightly better than Case McCoy, but he is definitely worse than Ash. And second season Elingher is better than this version of Ewers. Ewers isnt even the third best QB for Texas since 2000 lol.

Yes I do. You aren’t finding his name near any records at Texas and his NFL accomplishments are just that, NFL. That’s not trolling. The NFL was literally a part time job for most of its history with carpenters and plumbers. Nobody had offseason conditioning or weightlifting programs until the 70s

The offense isn't one man. Asking our oline to run block is also reasonable. But they can't do it against speed like Georgia.

Asking one man to not throw interception in the red zone is reasonable. Our oline didn't make the poor throw. A millionaire NIL 3 year starter QB did.

Also, asking for a QB who can evade a sack and scramble for a few yards occasionally is also reasonable.

Wanting a QB who has pocket awareness and can read a blitz is also reasonable.

Wanting a QB who can move the pocket and hit an open WR is also reasonable.

Ah yes, an opposite hash throw across the field with the left side screaming down on you as the ball leaves your hand is a basic one. And asking a receiver to make a play on a ball that hit his right shoulder pad is a fantastic one. This whole play was a shit sandwich from start to finish and I’m not going to put the blame on one guy. Although I do think, like I said in my original post about the play, a guy like Golden probably catches that ball.

I get you and have agreed to such. The ball placement was bad and as a receiver breaking out it’s a tough play. If you’re saying that he could have caught it then it is a catchable ball. As a receiver that is better than nothing. We’ve seen this receiving core make tougher catchers on worse throws from Ewers all season.

Given QBs in the NFL, his ceiling his career starter as a game manager. But his most likely trajectory is long term backup. But it isn't physical talent that holds him back. It is all mentality.

His technique and throwing motion, lack of mobility, lack of speed, lack of evasiveness, and fragile nature is all physical. (Well the fragile nature is both)

If Quinn was worth a shit at all in the RedZone, we easily win yesterday and we play Michigan for the national championship last year. If your QB is ass in the RedZone, that's a huge liability.

A guy like Arch, who you have to respect running, is such a better weapon in the RedZone. He had to come in and clean up Quinn's garbage against aggy.

Quinn is the worst starting player on this offense.  Seems like a great guy and I wish it weren’t true but it is.

The only way UT can compete for the NC is to replace him with Arch, who adds a running dimension as opposed to statue Quinn.  2 weeks to get him ready.

Will Sark have the balls to do what he must?  I doubt it.

I suggest a Five Point Plan to settle this disagreement once and for all.

1. We watch the Texas vs. Florida game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

2. We watch the Texas vs. Arkansas game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

3. We watch the Texas vs. Kentucky game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

4. We watch the Texas vs. Aggy game. Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss.

5. We watch the next Texas game of the season (Bowl game, SEC Championship, or First round playoff). Sum Ewers QBR +10 for a team win -10 for a team loss -30 if this is a bowl game +10 if it's the SEC championship.

Then we find the average of these five sums. This gives us his measure on the ULTIMATE SCALE OF PUSSYTUDE/BOSSNESS (working title...in process)

0-65.0 : THE ULTIMATE PUSSY : Sorry Quinn, you are officially and forever a Huge Pussy

65-75 : PRETTY MUCH A PUSSY : Quinn, you had so much potential but you ended up playing like a Pussy for us. There might be hope for you in the future though.

75-85 : KIND OF A PUSSY : Quinn, we would have had a real shot this season if you didn't play like a pussy one too many times. Good luck in the NFL though bro.

85-95 : MOST LIKELY NOT A PUSSY : Quinn did enough to win, but could he have done more? (I admit if we end up here the argument will go on. I'll take my chances)

95-100 : DEFINITELY NOT A PUSSY : You can say what you want about Quinn Ewers, but he ain't no pussy.

100+ : DUDE IS A BOSS : It turns out you guys have just been haters the whole time. Potential Longhorn Legend.

(This is all completely arbitrary and not based on any kind of science or intelligence)

May the testes be with you, Quinn.

1. Texas 49-17 vs. Florida. Score = 100.0 (QBR 90.0 +10 for win)

2. Texas 20-10 vs. Arkansas Score = 72.0 (QBR 62.0 +10 for win)

3. Texas 31-14 vs. Kentucky Score = 77.6 (QBR 67.6 +10 for win)

4. Texas 17-7 vs. Aggy Score = 89.1 (QBR 79.1 +10 for win)

5. Georgia 22-19 vs. Texas Score = 70.6 (QBR 70.6 -10 for team loss +10 for this game being the SEC championship)

Average = 81.9 --> KIND OF A PUSSY : "Quinn, we would have had a real shot this season if you didn't play like a pussy one too many times. Good luck in the NFL though bro."

This actually pretty accurately reflects my feelings right now.

I harbor no personal feelings of ill will to the guy, he is still our QB1, I want him to succeed now and in the future, wherever that takes him.

I do feel extremely disappointed on where he is, given the expectations we were sold on early in his career.

Unfortunately, I think that Longhorn fans will still be arguing about this in twenty years.

So this is a different formation, but it's basically the same route by Wingo. Ewers puts the ball where it should go...and Wingo drops it. This just explains why the first throw was so bad.

Someone suggested Bond couldn't cut and that may well be the case, because he shoulda cut into the ball, caught it in his craw and been off to the races down the sideline before that defender had time to react. Instead he throws his hands at the ball - combined with all the other drops, a good sign the receivers aren't getting the reps they need in practice or in the games. If they're dropping the ball in practice maybe they need to be sitting on the sidelines during the game. Looks like a lack of discipline, or laziness or both, although if he was hurt, I guess we should cut him some slack, but if he was hurt, shouldn't someone have told Sark. We need to tighten up our game. Or maybe it was a lack of killer instinct on Bond's part. We've been spoiled. We've been winning even when we aren't really trying. That goes back to Sark's "killer instinct," or lack thereof. We've got "Some gas, but keep a foot on the brake pedal just in case..." You know, like how teenage girls drive for the first year or so. (If anyone has any stories, you must share.)

QE didn’t lose this game but he didn’t do what was necessary to win it and that’s what’s necessary. When sark’s teams can’t run it’s always trouble. Plus a lot of mental mistakes every where. Two missed FGs come on!? Burke lined up offsides, which lead to the second half TD. what the fuck? 3 celebrating not blocking for a pick six, what the fuck. The list goes on. And that’s before bad luck with fumbles GA was able to recover with horns everywhere.

This stands out to me the most. Obvious blitzes (and defensive formations suggesting a blitz) shouldn't absolutely flummox a 3-year starter who has been working with someone like Sark the entire time. He has had continuity with his coaches and his system. This shouldn't be happening.

Again, you're putting everything on Quinn. He isn't a game changer. But he was good enough for us to win. Other parts of the team have to step up too. It's so weird to bash the best part of our offense yesterday. I'm sorry he isn't what you want. But your list, a least for yesterday, is largely bullshit. He did evade sacks and make plays. He did throw deep. He did burn the blitz. We couldn't execute in the redzone because our offense simply isn't built for it, at least against Georgia. That's just the truth. It ain't all Quinn my man. Get over it.

He is who he is at this point. A 30+ start QB shouldn’t require perfect conditions to excel.

He wasn’t awful yesterday but it’s not unreasonable to expect more from your third year starter.

Sark has to scheme everything up for him right now. He isn’t evaluating those around him or making the off schedule plays. Yes the OL could be better or the receivers could be better or a specific play call or two could be better but when a dude is the starting QB at Texas for 3 years he should be able to cover up stuff and right some wrongs. That isn’t asking for too much.

This exactly

He doesn't have a discernible skill set beyond quick slants and horizontal passing which is hard to scheme around. Rarely gives more than in expected of him which sticks out like a sore thumb on a team full of leaders and absolute dogs trying to win a championship.

QE is pretty low down the list to blame for this loss imo. Was he perfect? No. But he didn't get help from anyone. Multiple drops that would have been first downs (one popping up for an INT). No run game. Penalties everywhere killing drives. Missed FGs. None of that is on him.

His biggest issue yesterday, and idk how much of this is on playcalling, was the disappearing act every time we got in/near the red zone. I mean, how many times did we get to their 30? Like 6 or 7? And turned those into 12 total points including OT. The most painful being 1st down from the 14 at the end of regulation with plenty of time and a TD winning the game.
