You are trying to make this out like I said Quinn lost this game. I said literally said Quinn didnt lose the game, he just did not win the game multiple times. You can say that for a lot of Texas players. Only player I cant think of having a bad play was Makuba.

I agree with this as well. I would add that it's not unreasonable to want and maybe even expect a highly touted recruit, who is a 3 year starter at the University of Texas and makes millions in NIL to WIN championship games.

Or.. at least have a coach that recognizes that QB's struggles in the redzone during GAMES and plays the much more mobile back up QB who is equally touted and NIL compensated more frequently.

These seem reasonable to me.

But I'm regarded and crazy I guess.

Quinn lost the game for me. You gain that many yards in the 1st half but only have 6pts and a 3pt lead? Bad.

Not winning the game = losing the game. His pathetic redzone play is such a liability. We saw it the other night and saw it against Washington.

I knew we were doomed when Georgia deliberately committed PI in the endzone because the DB was beat. That put us in the redzone and meltdown ensued. Our best chance was trying to score from further away unfortunately. If your QB isn't good in the redzone, you are going to struggle to win these types of games and playoff games that are going to be close. Texas recipe for winning with Quinn is building a big lead and hanging on for dear life.

I turned to the Georgia fan next to me and said, "That was a brilliant PI".

Yep it was. And that leads to the debate of the NFL vs NCAA PI penalty. I see the pros and cons of both. But in NCAA, you are rewarding blatantly mugging the receiver when you get beat and only penalized 15yds. Commit it and only give up 15. The only reason why I don't like the NFL's version, is PI can be so subjective to the ref and WRs are getting better at selling it. Especially these underthrown passes where the WR doesn't even try to make a play but only is wanting to draw the flag. These can be 50-60yd penalties. I feel there has to be a happy medium.

I don't know how many times it's be rewashed, but have a non-mobile QB causes substantial issues in the running game with good defensive teams. Georgia1 and Georgia2 out front should have told you.

I disagree that non-mobile QB creates problems with the run game. I would say that a mobile QB can create advantages for the run game. But is most certainly possible to have a team with a good run game against good defensive teams without a mobile QB. In fact, we have had a good run good against good defensive teams this year. We are good in against power dlines. We apparently don't deal well with very fast dlines. Ergo, we just don't matchup well particularly with Georgia very well in the run game. That's not really on Quinn, but certainly we might be able to create more favorable matchups with a more mobile QB.

Quote

Now to your videos, how many were in the redzone?

What area have I and others been specifically pointing out as the problem area.

How many TDs did we score in the redzone vs Georgia2?

We really weren't in the redzone all game, largely because of penalties.  We ran 12 plays in or right at the redzone (Georgia 20 yard line) through OT.

  • 6:43 in the 1st, 1&10 at the 21. Incomplete pass and offensive pass interference (Bond) on the throw to helm.
  • 12:00 in the 2nd, 1&10 at the 22. Wisner run for 3 yards, offensive holding (Bond).
  • 4:50 in the 2nd, 2&5 from the 19. Incomplete to Wisner (threw ball away after instant pressure)
  • 4:45 in the 2nd, 3&5 from the 19. Incomplete to Moore (almost pick on misread of coverage).
  • 0:29 in the 4th, 1&10 from the 14. Sacked (fake double screen, we don't block at all on the right side and give 2 guys a free run at Quinn)
  • 0:24 in the 4th, 2&15 from 19. Quinn throws the ball high to Wingo at the 1 yard line. He appeared to be thinking throw it high to give Wingo a chance to jump for it without risking an INT. Ball was way too high so he didn't have a chance.
  •  0:22 in 4th, 3&15 from the 19. Screen to Wingo. Wingo drops it and probably not going anywhere even if he caught it.
  • OT, 2&5 from the 20. Incomplete to Blue
  • OT, 3&5 from the 20. Tight throw to Wingo on a slant. Good throw and good catch, 1st down.
  • OT, 1&10 from 14. Incomplete to Golden. DB got away with a bit of a push with full extension of the arm that threw Golden off and allowed the defender to stay in position on the double move. Probably a TD without that.  https://youtu.be/Uc52IPbPpXo?si=T-AulOKONhGy82wN&t=4112

image.png.3622bd0ccecdac97aef00ab35f776698.png

  • OT, 2&10 from the 14. Incomplete to Moore. Fade to Moore. Not a great throw, but he is sending Moore to grass on a fade. If QB and receiver are on the same page, this is a TD. Y'all will blame this on Quinn, but given the play call, Moore has to be expecting the ball to his outside shoulder, he initially turns inside instead.
  • OT, 3&10 from the 14. Quick flat pass complete to Wisner for 1 yard loss. We got Wisner one on one with the safety, which is the goal of the play. He breaks a tackle and it is a TD. Good play by Georgia. Quinn may have been able to hit Wingo trailing if he sees it, but Wingo was jogging and we got what we wanted here so its hard to blame the QB for running the play as designed.  Pass could have been better and give Tre a bit more a chance.

Overall, in the redzone, Quinn had one really bad throw (maybe two if you count the offensive PI play) and one really good throw. He had 2 throws that could have been TDs if the throw were slightly better or the receiver made a play. He one play that would have been a TD absent a missed PI. There were 2 plays were Georgia just made a play or beat our play call. 2 plays were busted on penalties. And 2 plays were just broken due to lack of execution elsewhere.

Are there other areas that need work, yes. Have I denied that at any point, no. Have I also pointed it out multiple times on this very page, yes.

Have you, at any point, acknowledged that Quinn has some issue? Not in this post. Are you willing to acknowledge Quinn had some major issues in the redzone? I'm doubtful.

Quinn could be better. Quinn has limitations. He sometimes self-sacks. He falls in love with his pre-snap read. And his mechanics breakdown a lot leading to bad throws. But, in this particular game, he played about as well as he has all season.

Quote

Are you willing to admit using Arch much more frequently in the redzone against Georgia could have potentially increased our odds of scoring? I'm doubtful.

I've said that multiple times in this thread. We should use Arch in the redzone against teams like Georgia.

Quote

Is this a binary Quinn only issue? No.

Is our lack of success in redzone against Georgia and other teams during the season something that should be addressed by our HC? Absolutely. Is Arch the answer? Sadly, we don't know but MAYBE. Should we know the answer? Absolutely! Is Quinn the answer? No is the clear correct response.

Quinn isn't going to elevate the team in the redzone. That's true. He isn't the answer to our problems but he also isn't the cause of them. Our problems are bigger than individual players in the redzone. The reality is that Sark's redzone offense just isn't good without the threat of a power run game. I think Arch gives us a better chance simply because it creates at least some potential schematic problems for defenses that our normal offense simply doesn't.

Here are some examples of good play from the first half (I'm displaying these as links because Youtube bitches about logging in when playing these embedded):

Point here is that Quinn did many of the things that you said he didn't. Our offense bogged down because of missed plays and penalties. It can't be all on Quinn. Someone else has to step up to: Golden needs to catch that TD, Wingo needs to catch the ball in general, the line needs to block better (particularly run blocking), we have to stop committing stupid holds that don't even affect the play, we have to grab fumbles when they happen, we have to block on an INT when it'll score a TD, we have to make FGs.

I'd also call this an off schedule play: https://youtu.be/Uc52IPbPpXo?si=c3XMXwqYdIOOanN9&t=1190

Busted play with ball snapped before Quinn or anyone else was ready. Nice completion on 3rd and 26 against blitz to get yardage for either 4th and 9 attempt or FG.

I stand corrected. Ok, i need 5 a game.

EDIT: Also, i'm not calling for Arch. I think Quinn's mobility is his biggest issue. It's just hard to always makes plays in the pocket.

I also agree with this take.

Which is why I provided the OR in my last comment.

I accept and acknowledge Quinn isn't the player who can carry the team and WIN the big game. I accepted it some time ago.

My issue isn't with fans that think he should be, nor fans that perceive him to be so.

My issue is, primarily with a head coach who hasn't or won't accept that Quinn isn't. The same coach who decided not to make a change, for a LOT of reasons I already covered. I get it, this bed is made.

However, that the QB whispering, offensive genius hasn't made accommodations and changes to the offensive game plan is frustrating. In particular, not using a tool, a VERY impressive one, in that adjustment is my true issue.

That is NOT on Quinn. It is on SARK. While the bed is made, Sark did and still does have the option of grabbing the warm blanket on the night stand and making us all more comfortable.

If he doesn’t, it will reflect very poorly on him in my eyes and the eyes of MANY.

That hurts Texas Football,  my university's team, in more ways than just a run at a title this year. JUST a run at a title.

That's shit I will never be quiet about here or anywhere.

Its also the defense. Played great all game, but had some poor moments also. Georgia ran for 120-140 yards in the second half with a back-up QB. I believe the big run from Etienne came off poor alignment issue. They gave up a QB draw on a critical 3rd down in OT, when the world should have expected that. You want to win Championships you have to make plays in critical moments.

Anyone expecting a defense to hold a quality team to 14 or so points is an idiot. It happens, but against a good team it only takes one play to break your back and end your season. That's why anybody who is satisfied with scoring 16 points is a fucking moron. Anything under thirty points for our offense should dissapoint the hell out of us.

"Playing good enough to win" is just another platitude to go with "at least we won 9 games this year." Fuck that. Tell that to Nick Saban.

In saddling us with Tippytoes Ewers in the Red Zone, Sark is running 85 octane fuel into a high performance engine.

It raises a question: many said that Georgia players stepped up their game with the entry of the freshman QB, likely adrenaline. Well, seems like the fading of the adrenaline is a natural phenomena that happens when your QB isn't out there MAKING things happen. When you continually fail in the Red Zone, the players sort of get used to it. We saw what happened when the rush kicked in on their side.  Perhaps having a fresh young go getter at QB would raise everyone's play just a notch (although I don't think you would be able to notice it on our kick ass defense)?

He was 2/10 for 5 yards in red zone. That's on him and Sark. And yes, when he committed that PI I knew we were hosed.  But still we were on the 15 with 34 seconds left.  No need to just close your eyes and throw towards the endzone.  We had the whole field

I dont think that is wrong either. Both can be true. I was pointing out that the same could be said for the defense. They made some costly errors at critical moments also. I largely don’t disagree with you, but just maybe and this might sound crazy, but perhaps things turn out differently if we could have developed some sort of run game.  Maybe we run for a TD in the red zone rather than having to rely on the pass.  When you don’t have a run game then your opposition can pass interfere knowing that what follows will be more passes.

That's some great insight that seems to get lost in all this. When you get a QB out of the pocket, often you will see one tackler and wide open spaces in front of him. He can turn it into a nice running gain, or because everyone on the D is freaking out, he can turn it into a forty yard TD pass. The problem most QBs have with the latter scenario is that they're not accurate passers when they're on the run. Not only is Arch fast and can beat that one tackler, but I'm pretty sure he's damn accurate on those types of passes.

And hey, what the fuck were those last two throws in OT? We go out on two passes that gave the receivers NO chance to make a play.

First decision is to float it out of bounds to a blanketed Golden.

Second throw a lofted, low percentage floater that hits the turf nowhere near Moore.

THAT'S what we get from a third year starter in December?

Losing RB1 CJ Baxter and Christian Clark before the season started didn't help in this regard.  Beyond that, our line is seemingly "better" (LOL) in pass pro than run block.  (Ignore UGA.)

I think saying Quinn didn't play well in critical moments understates it. With all the opportunities we had to score in the red zone, ONE more TD out of all those opportunities was not expecting too much, IMO.

Dude, you're just wrong on the Moore throw. Quinn is throwing that entirely based on pre-snap read. He throws it the second Moore makes his break and throws it where Moore is breaking to. Moore drifts back towards the coverage because he turns inside looking for the ball. If he starts out turning outside, he easily adjusts for the ball.

Right now (below) Quinn is starting his throw. Moore is running free to corner of the endzone away from the defender. The route is designed to go there.

image.png.d2b31309bfff5e719464338517bd4064.png

Here it is a frame later with the ball out of Quinn's hand. Again, Moore is running free to the corner of the endzone where the ball lands.

image.png.3f1e7c44899c7475912ad38456f9b582.png

For some reason, Moore than turns inside to look for the ball rather than just going where the play is setup, this take his body inside towards the defender:

image.png.6f603d83892bd1c61b7845f8beaabaae.png

If Moore just keeps running the same direction, he has a TD. Quinn can't know he is going to turn inside at the time he threw the ball. There is no reason for Moore to do so.

We've bitched a million times about how Quinn throws the post skinny, usually unnecessarily dragging his receiver towards coverage rather than throwing it to open grass. He finally throws it to open grass, and the receiver drags himself inside towards coverage.

I agree the throw to Wingo wasn't ideal. He threw it too high for Wingo to make a play. But that also avoids any chance of an INT, which I think is the thought process there. It happens. If he gets that just a couple of inches lower, Wingo has a decent chance to elevate and make a catch.  But yes, he should have just drilled him immediately, but I don't think Quinn responded quickly enough to Wingo beating his man off the line to do that. Wingo wasn't his first read there. He initially looks right before coming back to Wingo on the left side.

Moore is literally running up field from the last screenshot on. The ball is thrown way the fuck outside and Moore never had a chance because he was going more vertical. If the ball is thrown toward back of endzone out in front of moore it's a touchdown. Just a shit throw. There is no defending that throw at all....full stop.

So... I think it fair that we question the ability of our head coach and hope he alters some things in his game plan.

I covered those earlier. Golden was only blanketed because the defender pushed off. It should have been PI. The Moore throw is a TD if Moore turns to his outside shoulder like he is supposed to there.

How in the blue hell can you say with certainty that Moore ran the correct route and Ewers blew the throw?

THE BALL WAS ALREADY IN THE AIR when Moore turned inside. That's what the screen shot is showing you. Moore turned inside AFTER Quinn threw the ball. He wasn't supposed to do that. There is no reason to do that. You have no idea what you're looking at.

If this throw is to the inside shoulder of Moore between the I and the A of "GEORGIA" it's a touchdown. Instead the ball is thrown so shitty to 3 yards outside of the bottom of the A. Look how fucking bad the defender is beat and there isn't a safety close to making a play at all.

BECAUSE QUINN WAS THROWING TO HIS PREDETERMINED SPOT! Like holy fuck man, he was under no pressure and could ahve put it in the correct spot. It is an absolutely shitty throw

Even the announcers noted that becaues of the throw he'd have to make a Willy Mays catch.

I don't understand what you're complaining about here. You wanted Quinn to hold on to the ball to wait and see if Moore randomly drifts back towards coverage? Why would he do that? No one coaches it that way. Moore will tell you he fucked up here. If he turns to his outside shoulder, like he is supposed to, it is an easy TD.

I want Quinn to give his fucking receiver a chance instead of throwing to a spot that it would require a miraculous adjustment to catch. It was a slot fade, not a slot corner route....Like holy shit man you're absolutely fucking stupid to defend that bad throw. Like I said if ball is thrown between the I and A toward the back of the end zone it's an easy fucking touchdown. Insted he's throwing the ball 3 yards outside the bottom of the A. Just an incredibly stupid fucking throw to a wide open moore on the slot fade.
