OU last year? You could probably also count Alabama last year (down entering 4th). Iowa State td to go ahead late in 2022?

We just haven't been behind a lot.

Pass was slightly off to the inside and touch under thrown (obviously looking with a critical eye). My general view was it was good offense vs good coverage. Defender didn’t hit the ball, but he had his arm between Golden’s arms and body. Not sure he doesn’t make a play to break it up, if Golden grabs it. I get people calling it a drop, but it is on that line to me. More a contested catch situation that could go either way. I can’t remember another throw that you would consider a drop for Golden

Yeah, that isn't a drop. It is a failure to capitalize on an opportunity and make a play. But it isn't a drop.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the stat I saw was that Ewers is 1-5 when either tied or trailing at halftime.

Really unfortunate our defense couldn't hold up for 1:17 to win the game. In some ways, Sark teams have felt like a mirror universe of Mack's teams. We win games by a couple scores and generally lead the whole time and dont get blown out. But we rarely seem clutch in the truly close games. Mack would get blown out by OU, but his teams were fucking clutch in tight games.

Be interesting to see if this changes post Quinn.

This offense not being in rhythm has just become the norm at this point.

Everyone points to the Florida game as an example where our offense and Quinn looked great, but go watch that game again. The results/stats are awesome, but it was all just kinda ugly.  Quinn throws a good deep ball to Moore, dropped. Same series, Quinn misses an open Moore for a big gain. Later Moore dropped another great deep ball for a TD.  We can't convert the easy stuff, but make big plays on short  passes that broke free for huge gains. It helped that UF overall really seemed to lay down that day.

Quinn racked up a lot of yards and we were up 49-0 early 3rd quarter. But the offense still looked disjointed.

Agree.

Just watched it again.  Also that other drop may have been the early tip.  That’s inconsequential.

And that's why I said what I said. Moore drops a lot of balls and doesn't run crisp routes. You can see why he hasn't been on the field up until now. He has all the physical tools though. Just a lot of mental lapses. When you combine that with how Bond looks right now you can see how I said we aren't that great on offense right now. We have a single receiver we can depend on, a solid TE, and RBs who cannot make their own hay.

If they call a tipped pass a drop, that is really harsh..

Moore had 9/114 and our only TD vs. Georgia.

So Quinn should step up even more and try to make better throws and better plays if all this is the case.

Moore has been the starter since the opening game. He had been very good catching the ball, until Florida game. He had a bad drop in the Georgia game. Probably one of the few that ended a drive or wasn’t overcome. He also made a great move to break a short throw for a TD in this game. I have not heard anyone claim he is a bad route runner or seen anything from him to believe that,  outside the amazingly tired debate over the missed opportunity in the Redzone vs Georgia here.

We were 1 first down from finishing that OU game.  The offense didn’t completely finish it.

Same with Bama and Card.  One more first down and we likely win.  Assuming the FG is good.

Fast forward to KState with Murphy.  Similar.  We get down and settle for a FG.  There was more time left here, but it was 4Q.

Everyone has to make the plays that are there to make. However here on the Surl when a receiver doesn't make a play we talk about the QB. Arch throws a slot fade to the inside and Cook has to make a play to go get it. "Woohoo. Look at that ball Arch threw!" Quinn throws a ball inside that goes straight through Golden's hands. "Quinn needs to throw that ball a foot right and two feet deeper. Quinn throws two perfect balls up the sideline to Golden=crickets. Y'all are some weirdos.

There could be another but like you said I don’t remember it.  He clearly had it in his hands on it and it went to replay before being called incomplete.

Or. Now here me out. Don't let the opposing offense drive the entire field in a minute and score a TD.

I think the defense has earned a few mulligans the last couple of years.

We ARE talking about last year. Specifically the OU game and the last minute of it. Last year we couldn't win on the edge and it caught up to us vs OU and Washington. This year the two games we lost we couldn't run the football.

Come on. Lots of things went wrong vs OU last year. You can start with turnovers and pass defense. You one of the least impartial people on here, when it comes to responsibility for losses.

We didn’t have substantial pressure either.  The big 28 yarder on the final OU drive was in part due to losing pass rush integrity.  It’s pretty much always a lot of things.

I'm not saying Quinn is the ONLY reason for getting beat by Dillon Gabriel in 2023.

I am saying he can't be counted on to lead the team to a come from behind win. Sugar Bowl out front should have told ya.

(Yes, I know we was one play away from advancing. Moral victories are for aggy and they're not our standard)

The thing is, with 77 seconds left, and no time-outs, OU went 75 yards in what, five? plays and scored to win. I wouldn't say that the D lost that game, but they coulda won it and didn't. Overall, a team and coaching effort with plenty of blame to go around, not on any specific player or coach.

If I recall there were 2-3 busted coverages on that series alone, including the final TD..

this what fans do, they place blame most based on the the last 5 minutes of the game and forget the 100+ plays prior that could have changed the results

I would bet the pressure numbers were solid, but typical for last year didn’t finish. I know pass rushing lane integrity was a massive issue. Red Zone obviously another one. Like most games you can probably look at 3-4 factors that could have changed the results

IDK if I trust PFF for pressures/pressure rate.

We lost. And he knew our secondary was weak that year. Yes, he took a late game lead, but he also left too much time on the clock.

I mean, come on. Defense holds for barely over a minute, and that is easily a game Quinn made clutch plays to bring us back and win. This ridiculousness of ignoring all the good play Quinn gives us has to stop. A QB can't win a game by himself. Someone else has to step up. Quinn was the best part of our offense against Georgia and y'all are doing nothing but rag on him and excusing the rest of the team. Our failures in close games are a team effort.

Maybe. But so do we now. Clutchness is a thing. And Mack's teams had a knack for it.

I don't think I would be as frustrated as I am if the hype surrounding him hadn't been as high as it was.

Yeah, I personally hate the "rating system". Giving him a perfect 1.000 was crazy, especially after he had been injured since his soph/Jr year in HS. I don't think anyone should get a perfect rating, even Manning. Vince fif, too, but what it he didn't meet expectations? We would all be talking about the what if with him, just like we did Simms (whom I personally thought did fine). It puts too much pressure on these kids to succeed.

Look how many stupid lists there are for guys who didn't pan out in college on YouTube. It's a stupid amount. "Guy was a top ten 5 star player who didn't live up to expectations". Yeah. OK. That shit happens. Stop making videos about it. There's hit or miss every year.

It's not Quinn's fault they stupidly rated him.

Hell, Trevor Lawrence wad rated a. 101, which I didn't know was possible until recently.

I researched this before. All 1.000 5 star recruits were drafted, majority in the 1st round. That’s why I made the Brock Berlin comment.

Quinn was the first 1.000 composite 5 star since 2016, there hasn’t been one since.

Arch Manning is the last one so far on 247, which again, I hate that they rate anyone with a perfect score. Quinn is an example as to why. Yes, most (which are very, very few) have done really well, there's always going to be a Quinn. At some point they're going to miss, and they gave him that rating when be was a junior, and that's silly because the kid was injured and had to have hernia surgery.

Sure, he could have come back and dominated, but he's 6'1 195,hardly someone I would rate a perfect score. He's not some freak athlete like Kyler Murray (who, imo, deserved one), but they ranked him based on his arm and nothing else. No other traits other than he throws a nice ball in 7v7.

Hell, Trevor Lawrence was rated a .101, which I didn't even know existed until recently.

Jadaveon owney was rated a 105

22 pressures, 1 sack.  Unfortunately you can get a pressure and a completion.  The winning TD for example.

The drive was poor LB depth/squeeze the target.  Manny missed tackle the next play.  28 yarder was pass rush then discipline behind cause well he’s gonna run.  Not sure then the CB blitz TD.  Gbenda admitted his error but blitz cause lack of pressure.

Watts was out.  This was a big deal.  OU was his kind of team.  Manny/Holmes both had big missed tackles.  Ford probably hurt.  Turnovers.  Brooks hitting wrong hole on goalline.

Yes, defense should hold.  But also offense 10 yards from leaving them no clock.

I think I remember that blitz. Didn’t both the CB and DE blitz the same gap? So many mental errors in that game… Texas has not been great in critical moments on either side of the ball for quite some time.

I believe you are correct.  Forgot about it until you mentioned it.  Think Burke and Brooks bumped into each other.

It’s a bit ironic in this Ewers discussion regarding blame considering last year the secondary and particularly the safeties were crucified.
