8th out of 12th in completion percentage, 11th out of 12th on air yards per attempt among QBs that made in the playoffs. At some point, we need to hold his OL, RBs, WRs, and coaches accountable.  We're letting him down!!

On the other hand.

Statistics aside, this notion that Quinn compares unfavorably to other playoff QBs doesn't make any sense. I went to the Penn State game last week and Allar was not good. PSU won because of the weather, the crowd, and the SMU QB's public meltdown, but their guy engaged in some under-the-radar pussification. Later that night there was Nico, standing doe-eyed in the pocket before taking off and scrambling because either nobody was open downfield or he couldn't see them (and, if you've watched Tennessee this year, you know he'd overthrow an open receiver anyhow). Will Howard dropped dimes that game but we know the true story there. Kurtis Rourke spammed back-shoulder passes to no avail and air mailed an INT on his team's only real chance during competitive play. Riley Leonard can be fun but let's see his numbers against real competition. As long as we're marshaling talking heads to support our dug-in positions, McShay ranked Ewers second in terms of the playoff QBs he had the most confidence in, behind Gabriel. That seems reasonable to me when you consider who else is out there.

Lol, you got negged for this "horrible" take. You should be more cautious with your sarcasm, it's pretty triggering for some.

No classics for this thread.  This motherfucking  thread belongs in the Smithsonian, especially if ewers wins a national title with a last minute scrambling td. Surly would break for real.

If you think anyone on this thread will be upset with Ewers leading Texas to a National Championship you truly don't understand the entire reason for all activity. It's bizarre that it's even a possibility you believe that to be the case.

The human brain is fucking complex.

Some people become so fixated on shit they root against their own interests.

I wouldn't be surprised some haters here would prefer being able to say "I told you so" rather than seeing Quinn lift up a trophy for the national championship.

Well, people are fucking weird I'll grant, but the main reason most people here are critical of Quinn is because his issues may cost us a shot at the National Championship game. They aren't wrong (See Washington/Sugar, Georgia1 and Georgia2/SEC championship for examples). However, to discover he doesn’t cost us that chance and DOES win Texas a National Championship outweighs all else for any sane, rational Texas fans. To think otherwise is insane and irrational.

I've said it for months, I'd love to be wrong. I'm smoking the hopium with the Quinn Fan Bois. I have a room and ticket for the National Championship Game. I went to the SEC championship game.

Most here that are critical of Quinn want him to succeed.

They just fear he won't based on the evidence thus far.

I think people saying Klubnick has a better game is pretty simple. He led his team to 24 pts vs a defense giving up 12. He had 3 TD passes vs a defense that gave up 4 the prior 12 games. He did that with 0 run game. Clemson RBs ran it 11 times in total. You put the cape on and are responsible for 80-85%  of your offenses plays and double up the opposing defenses average pts allowed, that is a good game.

Cade had a good game, but he has some damn good WR's like Moore, Wescott, Antonio Williams, and their TE. At the end of the day our defense did what they always do; shut those mofos out. Cade did what was asked of him, but he didn't do enough. Muhammed was toasted 5 times in a row, but when they went for it on 4th and 1, Norton killed their RB and put him behind where they were.

Meh.  Look Quinn was a 1.000 5 star all world media darlin since early days of highschool. This isn’t his first rodeo being in the spotlight and if he wants to be an nfl qb worrying about a back up always in the media isn’t gonna help. Mentally you need to be dialed in more than that.  If he wants to cement his legacy he needs to step up this playoff run and leave it all out there. Or he will always be look at as Dak Prescott Dallas cowboys. Dominate stats and weak teams and crumble under the pressure of post season.  He’s auditioning and shutting up any haters these next 2-3 games hopefully and cementing his legacy

I think he would be looked at more like Simms than Dak. Dak is in the league, Simms was a Longhorn. If he beats OSU/Oregon and makes the NC, he'll be behind Vince and Colt. It's crazy to think about given all of his injuries, but he came in and got us out of the dark ages and recruits started coming here because of him. For that, I'm forever grateful. He also will get us in the final 4 again.

After Kwlaon fucked him up he suddenly became a Longhorn Homer. It's weird, but I'll allow it. Dude just oozes UT propaganda, and I'm here for it.

See this is the mentality I am talking about. Quinn cost us the Washington game? Yeah they should've connected on that last pass but our defense let a QB throw for 430 yards without nary a sack but the QB cost us the game? How did that same QB look against a competent defense the next game? 255yrds 1TD 2INTs and 13 points. Same situation in the 2nd Georgia game. Dude threw for 358. If the people around him just did their jobs at a satisfactory level the game wouldn't even be close. Commit half the penalties. Don't drop TD passes. Don't let a team who can barely throw maul you all second half in the run game. Kick a fucking field goal. In order for a QB to perform miracles the receivers have to equally be up to the task too. The O-line too. We couldn't get a finger on Klubnik for seemingly the entire second half. Dude just stood back there patting the football for what seemed like for a week. Had we lost that game we would be here talking about Quinn instead of how the defense folded. Catch the fucking ball with your hands Moore and Bond. Quit trying to basket-catch everything. While y'all are at it block. The next 50/50 ball Wingo wins will be the first one he has won in his college career. If I told you a team played Georgia and had 11 penalties, a dropped TD pass, and two missed field goals you would tell me that team lost.

You know what, man, I'm amazed and impressed.

You've finally convinced me. You're right. CTJ has been saying it but I've been ignoring the facts.

Ewers holds zero responsibility for any of our losses at all. 100% of every single loss, all of them, during Quinn’s tenure at Texas have absolutely been on his teammates and coaches. He is the one getting the hose. We fans have failed him, the media has failed him, all of his teammates, both sides of the ball and special teams have failed him. Everyone! The US has failed him. It's the fault of everyone and I was an idiot for think that a QB should be held accountable in any way for a teams loss, particularly Quinn who is surrounded by people who continue to do nothing but fail him.

Thank you so much for finally showing me the light. Henceforth, I shall blame myself, haters, media, every offensive and defensive player and particularly special teams for any errors or issues this team faces.

Quinn is and has been perfect and I'm an idoit for not seeing it sooner.

I both beg your forgiveness and thank you for finally making me see the error of my ways. You're a blessing and a genius. God bless you, the other Quinn enlightened folks and Quinn Ewers. I am now on the fan boi train moving forward in perpetuity.

You kids have been a little quiet lately so it’s nice to get the hostility flowing.

one thing that gets me fired up about this discussion is “he’s the best QB we’ve had in 15 years” point.  But I’m a team first guy.  So I did a little looking.

OFEI.  Overall rank first then opponent defensive strength second.

2017 - 95 against the 65th ranked defensive schedule.

2018 - 17th against the 46th.

2019 - 9th against the 18th.

2020 - 17th against the 11th.

2021 - 35th against the 45th.

2022 - 17th against the 29th.

2023 - 19th against the 36th.

2024 - 17th against the 28th.

One thing that jumps at me is if Sark is such a mastermind, why haven’t his offenses done better relatively speaking?  It is not a talent issue.  I’d assume that damn near everyone likes this offensive staff better than Herman’s.

I appreciate Sarks creativity.  His overall program building is tremendous.  I still say we’re the favorite to win it all.  Keep that in mind when I give you part 2 of my Quinn Ewers is the greatest QB of the last decade discussion.

This is why this thread goes on. We all know when the pocket is clean and the Sark is scheming open reads, Quinn looks amazing. We know the poor mechanics and lack of pocket presence show up when there is any pressure. I havent heard Babers talk about in awhile, but Quinn's pressure to sack rate has always been very high. I expect him to look good this week for the reason above. His QBR is 29 nationally.  His ADot is extremely low. 14 turnovers in under 12 games. He is a solid QB. People waiting for him to be the guy recruiting services predicted. That seems highly unlikely at this point. He is a very talented game manager. He is not going to lose you games, but he has not shown the ability to win games either. He has a chance to change that narrative in these playoffs. We will see how that plays out.

He has had 3 top 10 offenses by FEI.  2008 USC (9), 2019 Alabama (2), 2020 Alabama (1).  The 2020 offense had 3 Heisman finalists on it.

His father is the most athletic of the brothers. He had WR speed unlike the statue bros.

So let’s look at a little DFEI.

2017 - 6th against the #12 offenses.

2018 - 29th against the 8th.

2019 - 42nd against the 14th.

2020 - 37th against the 34th.

2021 - 47th against the 10th.

2022 - 8th against the 9th.

2023 - 6th against the 10th.

2024 - 2nd against the 40th.

Let’s keep in mind it’s likely that the 2024 offensive version has improved their standing over the regular season due to the Georgia/Clemson games.

Based on these metrics, it’s worth noting that our 2024 SEC-SEC-SEC schedule was not a gauntlet.

The obvious and clear jump in the Sark era is on the defensive side of the ball.  There is a clear influx of offensive talent over the Herman era although his accumulation of offensive guys was underappreciated (don’t take that to mean Herman is the second coming).  More depth pretty much everywhere.

There is some consideration to the QB gets too much credit and too much criticism theory.  It’s certainly present here.  And ironically enough the defense, and it’s players, get considerable criticism in prior years even though they’ve been the better unit for 3 years running.

As an example in the Bama 2023 game, since that’s the premier game in the Ewers era.  That was tied for their 2nd lowest point total of the season.  The defense set our offense up at the Bama 30 and the 5 and represented the only game in which Milroe threw two picks.  Yet there’s a little talk about the defense in that game.

So, yeah, it’s not clear that Ewers is better, or more important, to his teams success than Sam.  And for those that want to post up Ewers for the team’s success but rail on those defenders probably need a bit of an ass whipping.

Well per wiki:

He finished his college career with 485 of 815 completions for a 59.5% average (school record), 5,475 passing yards (fourth in school history), 7,225 total yards (second in school history), 1,750 rushing yards (third in school history by a quarterback), and 11 rushing touchdowns.

So clearly McGee's coaches and teammates failed him too!!

I think this is obvious. PK inherited NFL picks on the defense in Ojomo, Coburn, Sweat, Murphy, Overshown, Ford, and Barron. The DL has been a staple at Texas under PK.

The OL was an issue and had to be built up.

I am not one to say the HC can’t be the play caller, but there’s enough to question right here, right now whether Sark needs to fulfill both roles.

1st 2 years were a train wreck on the OL. Year 1 you had the killer combo of Thompson and Card at QB. Year 2 was freshmen Quinn and Card with a rough OL. Hard to be consistent with a poor OL and inconsistent Qb play. i would say the 2022 offense being 17th was a very good job.

I liked the parts on the OLine.  The instability of staff and system hurt those guys.  And my opinion was that several weren’t the Flood prototype.  Hard to say Karic, Parr did not go on to be productive.  Ty Johnson had some production too.

I don’t blame Sark for year 1 getting big hauls on the LOS.  But we’ve gotten limited production from those Dline recruits to date and lots from the Oline.

2022 might have looked considerably different had Junior not gotten hurt.  Great effort guy.  That caused younger guys to get thrust into the lineup too.

You’re throwing teammates under the bus again. “Everyone fucked up their jobs but Quinn was money because he threw for 358.” Yet he struggles throwing pass TDs in the red zone according to you because our rushing ypc in the red zone is too low.

Instead of blaming others for Quinn’s shortcomings, just own it that Quinn struggles to score pass TDs in the red zone. He’s still a goddamn wizard at moving the team up and down the field with his ability to put the team in a position to score. Those 358 yards didn’t just come out of thin air.

See how that works? I can praise and criticize Quinn all in one post without blaming others for his achievements and faults.
