Eh. Coulda been worse. Dude just gets hurt too easily and when he's banged up he isn't the same. That's why he fell.

I'm sure Tua will be dinged sooner than later and we can see him underthrow Tyreek.
Injuries factored into it, sure but the main reason is he just isn't that great of a QB.

Good spot for him. Cerebral offense minded coach and Zach Wilson is the only other QB currently on the roster

Quinn is a practice / camp arm for this year.

It would be shocking if he played a regular snap this season. And if he does, the head coach is fired during/after this season.

I was actually thinking Miami would be a good spot for him before the draft so I like that landing spot but damn, I did not expect him to drop so far behind guys like Mertz. He and Cam Williams should have stayed in school

I wonder if he wasn’t really welcomed to stay? God knows, I’d hate to deal with the Arch stuff. That said, yeah, he should have taken an NIL deal.

At this point, not sure it would have mattered. He is who he is. Looks great at times but not enough. And this was against college defenses and speed with a stacked offense. Also, this QB class was extremely pedestrian. If you are drafted this low in this class, that says a lot about what scouts are seeing. They are unbiased and care zero about Texas. Too many on here discuss Quinn with burnt orange glasses and understandable. All the flaws so many were talking about in this thread over his tenure here, were main reasons why he was drafted so low. Quinn was not even close to the reasons why Texas got as far as they did the last 2 seasons but he was one of the main reasons why the season ended in the semifinals round, though. And the main reason they couldn't win the SEC against a spare Georgia backup.

Several “isn’t that great” QBs went before him which I find puzzling.
Maybe this year was such a down year for QB that a lot of teams went into the draft having already made the decision not to reach for a QB?

Sucks for him and is a real blow to the ego but whatever round you get drafted, you’ll get a chance.  If you were good enough, it’ll be redemption.  If you aren’t, your low draft pick will be justified.
Hopefully at the very least the arm will keep him on a roster as a backup even if his size and durability prevent him from having a chance to start.

He doesn't have good arm, he's wildly inconsistent and he's always hurt. He hasn't had a fully healthy season since a sophomore in HS. This isn't

Or, maybe, just perhaps, Quinn just isn't as good as many Longhorns here seem to think and isn't really NFL material for a variety of reasons.

Incredible point! If only I had posted something about his limited ability.  Maybe something like deep balls. I’m just spitballing here.

So basically if we maintain D an average QB will get us a title?

Quinn will look better than “MILF” during the next pre-season games, so he’s only one bad Tua sack from playing in the NFL.

Why would you think that a 7th round pick is automatically going to be the 2nd string QB?

Ewers was sometimes amazing and sometimes incredibly frustrating to watch. I think Miami is a great opportunity for him; he can learn from some good offensive minds, and with those guys ahead of him, he'll probably see real playing time soon. I think that if he dedicates himself to the job, he's going to be a great one, and make bank on his second contract.

Les see:

Mike wahoo McDaniels vs surly mouth breathers.
who would you go with?

Quote

Early life

McDaniel was born in the small town of Bernice, Louisiana, in 1938. His family was Choctaw-Chickasaw,[5] and he was a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma. His father Hugh, worked in the oil industry and moved to several towns before settling down in Midland, Texas.[4] He attended Midland High School, where he was a track state champion in the shot put and second in the state in the discus.[6] One of his baseball coaches, particularly for his Pony League team, was George H. W. Bush.[2][6][7] The name "Wahoo" actually came from his father, who was known as "Big Wahoo".[7][4] Though he was a problematic teenager, he was recruited to the University of Oklahoma by Bud Wilkinson.[2] While attending, he was a member of the Sigma Chi fraternity and also a part of Wilkinson's Sooners football program, where he holds the record for the longest punt at 91 yards.[4]

Now that's a name I've not heard in a long time.

I also preface my belief in Quinn to see this “wake up call” to work on his game and be a professional from here on out. I wish him nothing but the utmost success going forward! Even if he only holds a clipboard for a decade.

quinn wasn’t “a five star recruit”, of which there 20-25 of every year- he was one of 6 (now 7) ever to receive a 1.000 recruiting grade. the only other two QBs to get that rating are Vince Young and Arch Manning. is he the biggest recruiting miss of the modern era? i don’t know, i haven’t followed this crap since ryan perriloux. but at the end of the day when he’s compared to VY and Arch, he’s definitely gong to pale in comparison. in fact it’ll probably be interesting to see how he compares to garrett gilbert when all is said and done.

Man that list sort of not 1.000 in the pros

Sarks NFL relationships seem to be relevant enough for his colleagues to take flyers on his players in the late rounds. JWhitt benefited from that last class. I had strong doubts about Quinn following that OU game, and I just became more critical as the season progressed. It was so obvious that teams like Arkansas, Kentucky, and A&M didn’t belong on the same field as us. Yet we couldn’t pull away. Hell the SEC championship was served up on a silver platter. That being said, have so much love and respect for anyone who wears that Burnt Orange. I hope he makes the most out of this opportunity.

This thread, even after the draft…

not really though. more people have been openly critical of QE without repercussions (and even with plenty of pos rep!) over the past 3-4 days than ever before. the countless nfl scouts and pundits who straight up were like, “this kid just isn’t that good and will never be a starter in the nfl” combined with quinn very nearly being an UDFA has allowed dissenters such as myself to openly tell the truth about quinn, his lack of talent, and how he is the no.1 reason that Texas isn’t the current back to back defending national champs, without an onslaught of seething and incredulous responses. people who even two days ago were going to battle with the QE realists have finally backed down and relented. the dynamic in this thread has shifted drastically during this draft.

Tyler Huntley 5 games

Skylar Thompson 3 games

Tim Boyle 2 games

Odds are high he plays a snap if he survives camp

Chad Pennington played for 11 years and couldn’t throw the ball more than 35 yards

quinn ewers isn’t good enough to play for Texas in 2025, i have a really hard time seeing him suddenly becoming good enough to start an nfl game.

We won’t really know until Quinn gets a shot in the NFL, if he does get the actual chance to play. Between draft prognosticators and the whiplash of opinion on this board, nobody knows crap. There’s not really been that much of a seismic shift in opinions from a segment of the fanbase that gets their panties wadded up every time an opponent scores a touchdown against Texas. Especially when Quinn made mistakes, which in fairness, was worrisome for an experienced college quarterback.

Quinn's gonna be a first rounder in April 2024 and an NFL starting QB a year after that.

Rick Barnes is vastly overrated as a coach.

Pflugerville sucks.

oof. i’m currently taking screenshots for my victory lap, but i had to stop to quote this one. hope you’re hungry for some crow.

I wouldn’t call any of them a superstar, but 3 of those guys have Pro Bowl appearances. That’s “decent”.

what at all have you seen from QE that leads you to believe he’s an NFL qb? he’s not even a particularly notable college qb despite being surrounded by elite talent and elite QB coaching. he’s also making the same mistakes and showing the same poor mechanics as he was last year, despite being coached by the best QB coach in the country. in an era where freshman QBs win heisman trophies and put up obscene numbers while playing spectacularly, QE being a 3rd year guy who isn’t in the top 50% of best players in his own offense does not portend well for his future as an NFL qb.

man, this trip down memory lane is not going well for most of you. whole lotta posts like this ^^^
