I heard on the radio that Parliament threatened to quit if he followed through with the wedding which would have violated the norm that the monarch be politically neutral. He stated it as the core of why it was a "constitutional" crisis. Abdication was the only real option for him to go through with the marriage.

Church of England allows marrying after divorce.  Plus QE2 gave Charles permission to marry CPB, per the Royal Marriages Act.  Plus the approval from the Archbishop of Canterbury.

Edward was way different because both the Church said no (he was already King, unlike Charles) and the government was going to resign if he married Wallis Simpson.   Plus times are different - it was pretty taboo to marry a twice-divorced woman then, especially while already King, versus Charles marry a divorcee while just a Prince in modern times.

IIRC, there was also something about if the former spouse (of the divorcee) was still living, which in the case of the now King Charles case would be a no. In the recent past with Wallis Simpson, I believe both of her former spouses were still living while she was with Edward and that was problematic from the POV of the Church.

So stupid, especially considering the Church of England was founded so a King could divorce his spouse.

I wonder how much of that memoir the Duke of Suckiest wishes he could pull back now that the Queen is dead. He's going to come off looking like a little shit.. more so than usual.

Became King of England. Doesn’t care.

was talking about Harry....

also not sure he cares.  Pretty sure his dad already cut him off. The thing about having nothing to lose….is you have nothing to lose.

Queen Elizabeth was the longest serving monarch in British history and never saw Texas A&M win a national championship during her reign…

I doubt it was broadcast in the UK, but she was 13 at the time.

Not sure it's really changing his name.  Just because he goes by Charles doesn't mean his name as king must stay Charles.  Edward VIII was known as David, but decided on Edward VIII.  George VI's name was Albert but it was considered too Germanic in 1936 England.

I think he should go with Todd... Cuz Todd's cool... Uhh huh huh

No “Bloody Mary” as a sign of support for the new Protestant King? I mean, to wash down the charcoal briquette on the left there…

Ahhhh, no CR!  Reported.  Negged.  Banned.  Ahhhh!

But yeah, how more people don’t accept that he’s completely bisexual is beyond me.  No judgement.

Is there a reason the Irish hate this lady in particular or is it just the UK in general? Either way the hate is awesome to watch.

Unless the beans are refried, they should never ever appear on a breakfast plate.

Yup. I'm sure Brisket's breakfast is largely edible, but I'll stick with some migas thanks.
