Third Goth Babe show under my belt... I will go see them any time they come to Austin.  Always such a positive, fun show and End Summer, as always, consumes me.

My wife bailed on me since it was a Tuesday night... she normally doesn't like being too close to the stage either but I'm all about it so I went straight to the front... missed the rail by that much.  Anyway, good times.  The Aces were a great opener.

Hans Zimmer in Ft Worth last night. Just a great show in which I’ve never seen everyone performing having so much fun. He definitely played all the “hits.” Also love how shamelessly and unapologetically he gets the sexiest soloists in the world and has them play in lingerie. Good crowd, not just super fans like @Sydney Cartoon.

brooks nielsen of the growlers at the paramount last night. dig his new sound, the pedal steel was sweeeeet. he played some solo stuff then all of the chinese fountain album. the kids behind us were on acid and it was hilarious listening to their conversations between songs. the poor old volunteer ushers had a hell of a time keeping people from dancing in the aisles.

The Goth Babe show in Las Colinas was ok. My wife enjoyed it immensely. It felt like there was a lot less energy than the previous time we saw him at The Factory, an albeit smaller venue. Toyota Music Factory is a much, much bigger room and is one of the ones that has a lawn with garage doors for large shows. This one didn't sell very well and they were giving "pit" upgrades to people who'd bought tickets in the seats. Toyota is weird in that the GA pit area is massive, then there are two sections of seats and then the lawn. They put an Alamodome-for-the-Spurs drape down after the first seated section. The pit area was pretty full, though. Anyway, it was a meh crowd, which sticks out when contrasted with Griff's energy. Like I said, I enjoyed it but it was lacking compared to the first time I'd seen him. I still find it perplexing that he doesn't play "Surfing in Iceland" ever. Oh, and I'm not a fan of his new haircut.

On the flip side, I absolutely loved the M. Ward show at The Kessler last night. It wasn't very crowded like most nut-to-butt Kessler shows can be. This was refreshing because we didn't have reserved seating upstairs for this one. It was my first time to see M. Ward after digging him for years. We didn't get really catch much of the opener -- Folk Bitch Trio -- but Ward brought them all out on stage for most of the closing set. I bumped into an old friend from my FWST/adult soccer days, which was fun. We were chatting about both hoping for a shock Zooey Deschanel appearance to sing "Rave On" or something. I tell you that any one of the three chicks in Folk Bitch Trio could handle the Zooey parts with equal aplomb. Those girls can sing.

Anyway, off to SLC in the AM. Lucius/War on Drugs/National on Sunday night. Wife said National covered "Bring On the Dancing Horses" a show or two back and I'm hoping they bust it out this weekend!

Its really strange... his show in Austin felt like it had so much energy and maybe he was feeding off of it.  Maybe its an Austin crowd vs Las Colinas crowd, I don't know.  I don't understand how you can't be all into it with an ending like Crocodile and End Summer.  I remember the one he did at Stubb's was really great, too.  Funny on the haircut, it looks like he did it on a whim while in Austin... weird to see him with short hair but yeah.  Anyway, no Surfing in Iceland for us.  This was our setlist...

Gotta a buddy who is out there with his wife for the second straight year. I thought last year's lineup looked better. They're only going tomorrow, which would be the night I'd go. Not sure I'd even stick around for Sting though. But Cat Power, Glen Hansard, Jenny Lewis (drool), Black Pumas and Turnpike is a hell of a run up to the headliner.

It's nice to just be able to go to Red Rocks on a Thursday to see a show and not have it involve airfare and hotels, isn't it?

Bought my tickets before Neil & Crazy Horse canceled and Sting replaced him. I’ll most likely leave after a few songs. Still my favorite “venue” though.

Future Islands at Longhorn Ballroom tomorrow night. Never been there for a show before.

It’s awesome. The group that owns Kessler bought it and fixed it up. We had tickets to Future Islands but we are going to the Drugs/National show in SLC on Sunday. Sold my tickets on SeatGeek for a nice little profit after none of my buddies wanted them free. (Saw Future Islands at ACL back in 2016 but have heard they might not be that great as headliner live.)

Loved every minute except the hokey, entirely superfluous space war narrative. The rocket entrance was cool—leave it at that. The rest was super cringey and commercialized.

They rocked. It was loud and amazing. In retrospect, my mom was right: Only in Dreams was a little hard for my wedding ceremony recessional.

Having an early dinner at The Copper Onion in SLC before tonight’s War on Drugs/National show and Matt Berninger checks in at the hostess stand while we are sitting at the bar. My wife walked outside and said hello and then I did the same. I think we’re best friends now.

Saw the Drugs/National show in Denver last night.  No Texas dates, had to travel, was worth it.

I need a deeper Drugs set list or solo tour.  No Harmonia’s Dream or Living Clean, but I’ll take what I can get.  The National performance made me a bigger fan than I thought I was.

for all the people on this thread with good taste, sigur ros is playing bass on friday night with an orchestra.

i saw this show in london last summer and it was extremely entertaining in a different way than your typical sigur ros show. would strongly recommend.

Planning on czeching out the Czech Melody Makers tomorrow evening at Cork & Barrel in Round Rock.  @UTCzech III y'all are still playing there tomorrow, right?

Hey “Jerry”, thanks again for coming out, sure appreciate it.  We had a lot of fun, hope to be back next year.  Nice meeting you, hope the wife wasn’t too bored.  Polka is hit or miss, you can really get into it or say, what the hell…

It was a great evening.  You and the band are legit.  I really respect your work to keep the music around.

The wife is now wanting to go to Germany for Oktoberfest - so that little show will probably ending up costing me thousands of dollars

Just got back from Sisters of Mercy. They’ve been really good the past two times they’ve played Moody.

BLAQK AUDIO opened and I liked them a lot. It’s a post new wave side project from the AFI frontman.

I'm so dumb... totally forgot about Sisters of Mercy on Sunday... same with James and Johnny Marr.  My screwup.

Could you see Eldritch?  Looked a tad foggy... kind of like Echo & The Bunnymen.  "If its foggy enough, they won't know I'm old."

Saw James & Johnny Marr in both Austin & Dallas on Sunday/Monday. It was a pleasure to see Marr play guitar in person for the first time, and what can I say about James? Top five all-time band for me. If you know, you know.

The National absolutely crushed it in SLC. Just a phenomenal show. I'm jealous that y'all got a "Bring on the Dancing Horses" cover. Would've liked to see that.

Anyway, we bumped into the twins' parents back at the hotel after the show. They were headed to the elevator when we were. She was wearing a National t-shirt from the show and we said, "Hey we just came from there too. Did y'all enjoy it?" I was pretty buzzed up so not exactly sure how we learned who they were -- I think they said, well we better because we're related to the band or something. That's when I realized the husband looked eerily similar to the Dessners. We exchanged pleasantries and then headed out for some late-night grub at Ty Burrell's Beer Bar.

Wife and I were waiting for the rental car to head to airport yesterday morning and we were laughing about meeting the Dessner parents the night before when Aaron comes strolling to the hotel entrance with a cup of coffee. We told him we'd come up from Dallas specifically for the show and it was an awesome performance. He said thanks and I asked where they were headed next. "Seattle," he said. I told him to have a great trip and we'd been seeing them again soon.

As far as Drugs go, they're so damn good. But their set is a little limited even though they're technically co-headlining. Strange seeing them come on in the daylight, though. Like you, I need to see them again soon when they're the headliner and can play a 2-hour show. Saw them in Las Colinas on the last main tour they did and I loved every minute of it.

Would've loved to gone to see that show last night in Dallas but I was exhausted when we got home yesterday and my 16-year-old started his week with us last night. Just not in the cards this time.

There was barely any fog.  I had prepped my kid for not being able to see the band but it was only about 10% of their past shows.

James was spectacular. 9 artists performing together. A mix of two vocalists. Two drum kits. A violin. A trumpet. Bass. A cello. Electric and acoustic guitar.

Familiar songs morphing into free-flowing jams. Wah Wah style.

Guys pushing 60 years old dancing and performing standing on the ledge of the balconies at majestic theatre.

Videos adding to the story of each song.
As Moving On played the backdrop of the two people of yarn made me tear up as one of them unravels. A hand of yarn unravels in the other’s hand as one of the spouses passes away leaving the other alone in the world. Made me think of my dad of 80 years losing my mom last Oct.

A brilliant performance that made me want for so much more of their catalog.

Vampire Weekend last night at The Anthem.  Great show, but god damn, my 51 year old feet are hurting today after 2.5 hours standing in GA.  Ditched the free form encore where he took cover requests, played the first minute, admitted he didn't know the words, then took another cover request.

I saw Goose last night at The Troubadour. 3 hours standing in a packed crowd. Rough morning today....

My 52 year old feet can relate. I finally found some shoes that give really good support (New Balance 996) and it has helped a lot. I was hobbling before after some long shows and festivals.
