Saw Wilderado last night at Emo’s. Good show, played everything I’d want to hear. Easily one of my favorite bands of the last 10 years.

Uhhh . . . not to belabor the topic, but my daughter's band just got added to ACL Fest, both weekends.

SA got the whole PA, it wasn't the best I've seen them but it may be the best lineup in terms of instrumental skill.  Almost nothing pre-hit, was not ideal, but I get it.  Dave Pirner should not tell "jokes".  I'm curious to hear what @Jerry Callo thought.

was there.  Hatfield just played her big album Become What You Are as a 30th anniversary tour.  damn she is skinny.  yeah the mix was weird.

Pirner played a bunch off his new album, 6 songs.  Setlist was much better the last time I saw him at ACL Live in 2021 and Local H opened.    I still don't understand why he avoids And The Horse They Road In On so much.  That album kicks all kind of ass IMO.

for 35.00 in a small room it was worth it.

Yeah, my first exposure to the band was in 1988 at CBGB on the "Hang Time" tour.  Kinda set a high bar that can't be topped.  They did this MTV show the same day, and I'm pretty sure Pirner was already drunk:

I'd be disappointed if he wasn't drunk.  24 yrs old playing on MTV in 1988.  how can you call yourself a rock star if you aren't in the bag for the show?

A good buddy of mine weaseled his way into their sound check at Liberty Lunch maybe a couple of years later, and called me with the heads up to get my ass down there.  The band stumbled on stage a few minutes after I got there, it was early afternoon, Pirner was hammered and only wearing one shoe.  Great sound check, though.

was that the show they released?  I was at that one.  I had heard ATHTRIO about a year before standing in line at the Thundercloud off Lake Austin and asked the guy who the band was.  you could tell they had it.

Not sure.  I did go to the show that night, it was great as expected, but I can't remember if they recorded it or not.

ELO was great last night,
But damn Lynne is showing every bit of 76.
I don’t think he moved once he got on stage.

I had a good time.   Liked the venue, although I'm sure it's nuts for a really crowded show.  I liked that there were places to sit inside so I didn't have to stand for hours.
Juliana seemed cool, but the vocals were hard to hear.  I'm not a huge fan of SA, but they put on a good show.   I was on my way out when they paid Runaway Train.
I was going to ping you at the show, but Surly got the internet aids and I couldn't.   I decided not to go tapping on shoulders saying muledick.  You probably saw me - I have a pretty strong, uncool, dad vibe.

Anyone going to Spiritbox & Gojira tonight? If so, see ya there!

Caught that show a couple weeks ago here in Atlanta. Good shit.

Nice. They played a 21+ plus venue in Atlanta on that tour, so I had to wait until I was a sophomore in Austin to see them at Liberty Lunch on the Horse tour. I think that show was recorded for a live album.  One of my fave non- metal bands.

Wife and I are going and sitting on the lawn for Nathaniel Rateliff with opening performance by Gregory Alan Isakov in Las Colinas tonight. Wife is more interested in Isakov, who I like as well. Picked up tickets for $22/per on Seatgeek where the fees and shit were nearly as much as the deeply-discounted ticket.

I went to the show here in Houston last night. Both acts were fantastic. I was more excited to see Gregory, but Nathaniel, his band, and production were great.

Saw ELO 4 days prior to you at the Moody Center in Austin and the concert was spectacular.  But, you’re spot on regarding Jeff Lynne’s declining individual performance.  He had to be helped onto the stage at the beginning and off the stage at the end.  Didn’t know if that was because he was 76 years old, because he was wearing his signature sunglasses, or a little of both.  And I’ve >never< been to a concert with such little verbal interaction between the crowd and the band.  ELO took the stage, played a few songs, after which Lynne said, “Thank you.”  Then, they played some more tunes followed by, “Thank you, thank you”.  At the next break, all he did was give the two thumbs up and it was like this for the entire show.  I don’t know if he was saving the energy he had to put into playing the music (which was terrific), but that lack of communication was highly irregular.

Matthew Sweet suffers stroke

From the link
"Last week, Matthew Sweet was forced to cancel an extensive cross-country tour of both headline dates and opening slots for longtime friends, Hanson after suffering a debilitating stroke in Toronto late Saturday evening (October 12)," Russell Carter says in a statement. "Matthew was quickly admitted to Toronto Western Hospital where he was put into excellent care and taken out of immediate danger. Matthew was transferred to a rehabilitation center back home in Omaha today where he will undergo extensive therapy. He is now on a long, difficult road to recovery."

That was a damn enjoyable show.

Strongly urge you to not miss a single second of Isakov's set. He was fantastic. Nathaniel brought him back out during his set and they did a really great number together.

The song they performed together hasn’t been released. They said it was the first time they’ve performed it.

GAI wrapped up their set with an acoustic version of the stable song.

On his last tour, did he get in trouble for using samples without payment? He sure made a lot of comments about only playing stuff written by himself and displaying the credits along with each song.

I'm not sure or maybe he was just trying to point out that everything he was playing was original and not playing other people's stuff.  Just to point out his originality would be my guess and I actually appreciated seeing the years on the screen. Thought that was kind of cool.

Got the wild hair and went down and saw Alejandro Escovedo at Continental Club last night.  Live recording taping, night two of three.  It was as always a great show.  Alejandro is gonna be one I am really gonna mourn when he passes.  Until then, gonna try and see him whenever I can.  Apparently the set list was very different from night one, except for mainstays like Castenets according to my buddy who also went Wednesday.

Went and saw Restos geezer hour residency last Thursday at C-Boys.  They are the remnants of Western Youth, and I really like them.  Reminds me of the 80's and Tom Petty on some of their offerings.  And I love they always have a guest, who basically plays between Restos' sets.

Just picked up a ticket for The Sword reunion with Pentagram on Sunday.   Considering going to The Jesus Lizard but I hate driving down to the Far Out.

they need to eliminate far out as a levitation venue.

I was talking about my early concerts the other day.  First buy a ticket concert and go alone was in 1975 (I think)Too Smooth and The Electromagnets , at I think what they called the Farmer's Market in Town and County.  First REAL concert was when my Dad drove myself and the two hottest girls at my junior high school to go see Greg Allman and Dickey Betts in November 1973.  Bought a lid off the Usher... we were bad 8th graders.... My Dad actually drove us and took a lot of pics.  I am going to start searching for those pics in his storage.

Anyone else see Sting/Billy Joel last night in the Alamodome?  Holy shit, what a great show.  It was cool just hearing Sting's distinctive voice, but he can still rock, too.

And Billy Joel is such an entertainer.  I saw him at MSG maybe 9 years ago.  If you ever get the chance, go see him.

He was pissed the Yankees lost.

To a stagehand: "They lost?  Walkoff grand slam? ... Shit. ... It's 9 oclock on a Saturday..."

Friend had an extra ticket last night to Marc Ribillet at the Studio room at The Factory. That was a helluva party. Marc got his start in Dallas which was fun because we don’t exactly have the deepest bench of successful local musicians.

Thinking of seeing them in Syracuse next April, not a big Sting fan but like him well enough.

We were there - Billy Joel still puts on a great show. 50+ years of being an entertainer, and he just knows how to do it.
We caught Sting’s last song. That’s it. What? BECAUE IT TOOK US 5 HOURS TO GET TO SA FROM AUSTIN YESTERDAY. Orange dipshit shut down Austin, so it took us over two hours to get from near NW Austin to Kyle. Then, multiple wrecks on 35. Then that put us near the Alamodome late, so traffic there cost us another hour. It was a shitshow.

It took 1.5 hours from Crossroads park and ride to the dome. They took us south of downtown, then up New Braunfels Ave, then to the dome from the east. Wtf.

Underdog, you should go. Sting isn't as engaging as BJ (who is?), but he still rocks. He only played a tight 1 hour set. BJ was on for well over 2 hours.

It's fine. Sound is actually pretty good. My 4th time seeing a show there and I've only been on the GA floor section. It's a very rare size venue for being indoors, huge GA floor, not a theater, and 5,000 cap -  I was in the way back for Vampire Weekend, couldn't get close to the stage, but got right up close for Isakov/Rateliff, Haim, and Charley Crockett.

I've got Rainbow Kitten Surprise in Las Colinas a week from Saturday. Trying to round up some folks to go to the Old 97's the night before at Longhorn Ballroom. I'm sure I've seen them 40 times in some iteration in the 25+ years I've lived in Dallas. My wife has decided she's seen them enough and has begged off.

Also see that Gregory Alan Isakov is coming back as a headliner in Dallas in Feb at the Majestic. Will be picking up tickets to that either today or tomorrow. Billy Strings is coming in December and our friends are trying to get us to buy tickets for that. Hear he's great.

you never saw the The Cars I see.  "Hello Dallas"....18 songs...."Thank you Dallas."

Air was really good. Having a live drummer made their music much more dynamic than on record. The eye candy was top shelf. Hot chicks apparently love Air.

Who is going to Levitation?  My wife is 90% not interested in going so I'm debating a few options by myself:

> Tonight - Free concert at Far Out Lounge tonight with Superfonicos, Como Los Movies, etc.

> Tonight - Nitzer Ebb... LOL.  I wish.  They go on at 12:30 AM at Elysium

> Tonight - Black Angels show at Stubb's.  Timing sucks.  One of these days I'll finally see them live

> Tomorrow - Arc De Soleil - Midlife at Empire (depends on if we go to a game at House Park and I might scram early)

> Sunday - Queen Serene, Annabelle Chairlegs, Color Green - pretty interested in this one.  Downside is the opener (which I really like) starts at 10:30 PM.  Maybe just stay for 2 of 3.

Anyone else?
