Going Saturday at Mohawk (obvious), looking forward to Destroy Boys and Teen Mortgage on that bill.

Yeah that's a logical one for you.  My ears need a slight break which is funny because Queen Serene, last time I saw them, was plenty loud.

I can't believe tonight's bill at Far Out -- Jesus Lizard and Gang of Four.  That's a coup.

Levitation is so good... and its amazing how many people know of ACL but don't know a single thing about Levitation.  I'm still thinking about another show this weekend.  Would be great if I could convince my wife to go because pulling another "going by myself" show may not fly.

Levitation:

Thursday:

Mdou Moctar: basically a taureg jamband. they were fine, didn't do much for me.

Black Angels: i've been a bit underwhelmed the past couple of times i've seen them but this was a really good set. played all of phosphene dream plus some others. sound was great and the new bass player fit in really well.

Friday:

Death Valley Girls: completely different lineup than the last time i saw them 6 months ago. they no longer have a guitarist and instead have a saxophone playing the guitar leads. they also added a trio of backup singers. it is not an improvement. thought they were borderline bad with this new lineup.

Osees: great as always. so much energy.

Saturday:

Iguana Death Cult: garage rock/psych from rotterdam. they were very high energy and quite good. reminded me of the viagra boys. their drummer was excellent.

Wine Lips: more garage punk/psych with strong osees vibes. fun set.

Sunday:

The Well: local power trio with sabbath-like riffs and a good dark sound. played a couple of new songs, hopefully a new album soon.

Rickshaw Billies Burger Patrol: was great to see them on the big stage at stubb's and clearly a lot of fans turned out. crowd was going nuts during this set. still think they're the best live band in austin.

Pentagram: it's a cool backstory but i'm not really into them. they were fine but dragged on a bit.

The Sword: hell yes. hope this wasn't just a one off show for them. they rip so fucking hard.

levitation next year will be sep 25-28. other than the consistently great lineup, the cool weather and halloween vibes were the best things they had going. maybe there's a great reason but i don't understand the move.

I’ve gotta think that’s to accommodate a headliner(s) whose tour coincides with those dates.

iirc, they only moved it to Halloween weekend because that’s when kikagaku moyo was available. Although I miss it being an actual festival at Carson Creek Ranch, I’m glad they’ve been able to pivot to a format that lowers their overhead and supports music venues around town.

We had Rainbow Kitten Surprise in Las Colinas last night. Fourth or fifth time for me to see them. We caught them at ACL Live in Austin back in May. Really weird dismount when right at the 1-hour mark, Ella said that was going to be their last song. They walked off, then came back and did their usual 2-song encore and that was it. One of the guys in our group said somebody in the band said they were a little under the weather but were fighting through it at one point but I missed that. Oh, well. It was a great show even though it was only 75 mins from start to finish.

Bought 4 tickets. My son and his college roommate claimed 2; Dad claimed 1. Three generations of nerds enjoying some amazing entertainment.

If y'all have never been to a Weird Al show, it's like nothing else.

Iron Maiden in SA on Sun seems interesting. Never seen them.  Recommend?
Maiden is awesome live and I catch them at least once every tour. Ill be seeing them in Santiago, Chile in a couple weeks.

The current Future Past tour is more deeper cuts from older albums than their well known hits, so I'd recommend spending some time with one of the FuturePast playlist out there before attending to be up to speed.

I took too long to edit so had to submit a 2nd post

Shit went a little sideways this weekend. Still have Annabelle Chairlegs (and Lindsey) tonight.  May fate smile upon me.

Thursday night was Bodega - however, they cancelled and I didn't see the email until I was looking for the tickets thursday afternoon.  Womp womp

Friday I went to see Shadowgraphs.  They are typically a chill psych rock band.  Not this night.  The drummer was going way too fast.  The lead singer even called out the drummer a couple of times but to no avail.  Turned into a punk rock show instead.  I like their recorded stuff better.  I saw them a couple of years ago when they were the local opener for Elephant Stone with Frankie & the Witch Fingers.  I thought Shadowgraphs were the best band of the night at that show.  It didn't even sound like the same band on this night.

Next up was Black Lips on Saturday night.  The opener was Pancho and the Wizards.  They were fucking great.  Had an Osees vibe.  They gained a new fan in me.

b6a1d75d4d01234fa79aad4628089166.jpg

Black Lips were fun unhinged southern rock.  I enjoyed them but liked the opener better.  Funny moment when people in the crowd would shout out a song title.  The rockabilly bass player was like, "we don't remember how to play that.  We have a 400 song catalog and can only play 10%".  lol

Sunday night is where shit really went sideways.  My gf (no pics) and I went to Revolution Hall (Portland, Or) to see The Black Angels, or so I thought.  I was finishing off a cider when I walked in the entrance.  In the vestibule they had two trash cans and two dudes checking IDs.  I threw my can in the in the trash and pulled out my ID.  Not so fast - one of the dudes looked at the can and says to me "you can't come in.  OLCC rules.  You can't bring an alcoholic beverage on the property of an establishment that sells alcohol."  I point at the trash and say "I threw it in the garbage as soon as I walked in".  "You can't come in.  We could lose our liquor license."

Asshole on a power trip.  Any other person would have said "you can't bring that in.  Throw it in the garbage".  Not this dick.  I know it was my bad but he could have been a little more flexible. Prick.

So we leave and walk around the building to try another entrance.  Nope, he got on the radio and put out an APB.  I'm pretty pissed at this point but there's nothing much I can do.  The Black Angels are my girl's favorite band and I was upset that I fucked it up for her.  I asked the dude if she could still go in and he acquiesced.  I told her to go enjoy the show.  I would pivot and go to another show and pick her up later.  I've seen BA probably 10+ times since they started in 2004 so missing it wouldn't kill me.  I just wanted to have a fun night with the GF.

Luckily, there were several great concerts scheduled for Sunday night.  My cousin's band, The Black Doors, were opening for The Mystery Lights at another venue 10 minutes away so I jumped in the car and hauled ass.

I got to Polaris Hall and got to see the last two songs from my cousin and then saw a great set by The Mystery Lights.  They were awesome.  I was still heated but I was able to enjoy myself.  It's a much smaller venue and I was able to get right up on the stage.

Hopefully my luck is a little better tonight for the Annabelle Chairlegs show.  Pray for me @sidis

I did it! Just had a great conversation with Lindsey. She's down for a backyard concert. They are releasing an album next year and will be touring in the summer so it'll line up perfectly.
Turns out we have a lot of common connections both here in Portland and in Austin.

saw the black crowes last night at acl live. say what you will about chris robinson but he still sounds great and puts 100% into the show. rich seemed as unamused as ever. they were good but i don't think i need to see them again any time soon.

Well, I guess we're headed back to High Water after a one-year hiatus. Mrs C-Man has never seen Arcade Fire and is bummed we missed their Red Rocks show this summer.

This lineup is pretty salty after last year's, which we were not enthused by (Noah Kahan and Hozier headlined).

Trying to get Jack White tickets for the Mohawk show. Shit's borked.

Tried for 30 minutes.  I was able to put tickets in the cart multiple times and it failed every time until the last time when it finally said there were no tickets left.

It's guest list or pass for us, I'm not paying $125/ticket to see my kid!

By the way, it hasn't really been publicized, but they signed with Jack White's record label (Third Man).  The show in Austin makes sense.  I hope they get a chance to tour as well.

Gonna go see Greensky Bluegrass Friday at the small Moody downtown. I don't know their music, going with a friend who likes them, but sounds like they're contemporaries of Billy Strings and play a similar bluegrass/rock/jamband style. I'm sure I'll enjoy it.
What did you think of them? I am in same boat and am thinking about checking them out this Thursday in Houston. The little i have looked into them they sound fine and some shit I would be into.

Anyone else seen them before? Yay/Na?

Just picked up 3rd row tickets for St Vincent during the presale that just started.
Code is SCREAMING if you want to grab some.

Awesome thanks. I was hoping to find a code. She was awesome last year at Bottle Rock, so looking forward to it.

It was borked for the San Antonio show but we were able to finally get through and snag three. Really looking forward to it. I’ve seen every iteration of him so far and it’s always been a great show

Are they gonna be at the San Antonio show also?
