I had a great weekend of live music.
A friend of mine recommended a show on Friday and I'm so glad he did.
Both the headliner and opener were f'n awesome.
Serpentfoot opened. I immediately noticed that they were heavily influenced by the Osees. So I was in - big time.
By the end of their set the room was bouncing.
Then Motrik hit the stage. They were blasting fog through traffic cones - apparently an homage to Devo. Hell Yes! Then we got an hour of heavy driven bass led krautrock. So good.

Saturday night was a night of excellent psych rock. Elephant Stone was the headliner. I had seen them a few years before but this was by far the better performance. Amazing performance.

The openers were Meteorite #4 and Sun Atom. Both were excellent but I really liked Sun Atom. They pulled me out of the bar area to the front of the stage with their music. I loved the whole night.

I was also fortunate enough to grab posters for both shows to put up in my Barage.

I don't know the answer to that question.  I wish I had seen the Stone Roses after their first album came out.  One of my favorite of all time.  Gonna go put it on now.  Thanks for reminding me.

Haha. I made my post and then put them on. I got “this is the one” on right now.

On another note, I saw a black angels free show last night. Daiistar was the opener. Never heard them before. As they played, the drummer reminded me of jesus and mary chain - automatic. One song triggered an inspiral carpets memory. The last song they did was a primal scream cover. I dug the manchester scene back in the day.

my favorite out of that scene is The Charlatans UK.

I got kicked out of the Black Angels/Daiistar show here in Portland a few months ago.  I was an idiot and polished off the last of a cider as I walked in the door and threw away the empty can.  Door guy was like, "we can't let you in.  You're not allowed to bring an alcoholic beverage into the venue."  I pled my case.  "I walked in and threw the can away."  No dice.  He was on a power trip and wanted to be a dick.  Seems like most door guys would have been like "you can't bring that in here.  Don't do it again."  Prick.

My gf stayed for the show (and loved Daiistar) and I bounced to see The Mystery Lights and another venue.

Haha. I remember you telling that story upthread. Daiistar was really good. Not crazy about the lead singer’s voice but their songs are great.

I saw Charlatans and Ride when they came through dallas in jan 2024. Good show except ride didn’t play twisterella for some inexplicable reason.

If you've finished The Stone Roses album try the Moon album by Motrik.  Its pretty fucking good.  The band all came out it black jumpsuits with red light glasses.

I saw Jim Messina open for Burton Cummings a couple of days ago at the Ryman.  Messina can carry the L&M stuff no problem without Kenny Loggins.  That was some good shit and he was unbelievable.  Voice still in top form.

Burton Cummings voice is a little shot, but his show was really good, especially after a few songs into it.  The Guess Who had some kickin' songs (Undun, American Woman, No Time, etc).  He sang "Stand Tall" which is one of my faves.  Closed encore with "Share the Land".  Fucking incredible.

I'd like to see that.  looks like he came to arlington last year but that was it for Texas.  maybe he will swing back around.

Both shows sold out at $105 face value tickets. Good for the gourds. Just such a damn good band. Saw them a ton back in the 90s.

Read an interview with Jimmy Smith a few years ago (bassist, and vocals and songwriter with Kevin Russell) and he couldn’t get any traction post Gourds. But then I listened to some of his stuff and it makes sense that he couldn’t get any traction.

Interesting.  it certainly seems like he's feeling it out.  He says we will do a couple of shows and see how it goes.

I know he doesn't want to deal with a bigger show but it would be nice if  things go well they play a bigger venue where more people can get tickets.  have no idea what the capacity is of Sam's Town.

I can't remember exactly what year it was but I saw them New Years Eve at ACL Live, they played after Willie finished around midnight and it was an awesome show.  ACL turned the lights on full blast to try to get people to leave at 2AM and the gourds kept playing.  Dennis Quaid showed up and played one song with them, cant remember which one it was.

Anyway, would love to see these guys get back together sporadically, if they can truly bury any hatchets.

Momma is making a Texas swing:

May 2: Houston (Last Concert Cafe)

May 3: Fort Worth (Tulips)

May 4: Austin (Mohawk)

They just released a new single from their upcoming new album.  this song sounds like a 90s alt-jam from Juliana Hatfield or Letters to Cleo.  and last year, they had one of my favorite songs, "Ohio All the Time." really good band.

MMJ in Austin 4/10, Dallas 4/12 and Houston 4/13.  Fun weekend!

Was a nice midweek surprise to see the dates drop today. Hoping to hit Dallas/Houston, these are bigger venues than the last Texas swing I attended so hoping for easier ticket availability.
