I'm no fan of the duo, most of their music was shit, but that song surprised me.  I don't give a flip about scootin' boots or whatever.

LOL.  Not going to Dessau Hall this weekend?

I shudder to ask what's going on?  But no.

Yeah, that place has been shuttered for a while.  Honestly, I did all that stuff when I was in a fraternity because I guess that's what you're supposed to do but, yeah, not really me.

Anyway, if you go to the Austin Music Awards on Sunday, I owe you a beer.

Looks like they'll be part of Levitation

@jimmyjazz finally had a chance to watch The Point really cook last night... can't remember the guitar player's name but I like his approach to playing.  Good stuff.  Nico killed it on drums, especially playing with Beto.

I personally like the place.  Have no problem seeing shows there.  What would be a better alternative for that size show?

literally any other venue. would rather go to COTA than far out.

Any particular reason?  I'm just curious what rubs people the wrong way.

Wanted to buy tickets for Father John Misty in Santa Fe for this summer but it's one of those venues where there's no way to resell tickets if we can't make it work. Wasn't ready to commit at this point.

Same. My wife wasn't overly interested in seeing BoH just seven days later after Friday's show even though they'll be headlining this one. (Me, personally, if I love a band I'll see them on consecutive nights if possible.) But she's been wanting to go to Echo Lounge to check it out. Once she heard this show was there, she was all over it.

Snagged some Luck tickets last night. My mom has been dropping hints she wants to go for years and finally just told me straight out that she wanted me to take her next time I go, which is much more direct than she ever is. Guess it’s going to be me and mom next week.

I think I have missed one (nonCOVID) year since 2016. Always love it.

That's awesome.

My exposure to Willie came from my parents.  First concert I attended was a Willie concert at the Austin Opera House circa 1982.

My wife and I will be out there again this year.  If I run into you, I'll buy you a drink.

I saw Bryan Adams at a work convention last night at the JW Marriott in Austin. I don’t know his full catalogue but for 65 years old he looked and sounded good. The boomer women were swooning.

Saw Ty Segall & King Tuff acoustic show.  Really intimate and cool.  Ty was working the merch table.  Said he and Kyle (King Tuff) hand drew the posters themselves.  Was very personable and chatted with everybody that came by.

Got free tickets to see Orions Belte a couple of days later.  They are a Norwegian band that is hard to put a label on - psych jazz?  Really interesting and groovy.

On the 4th of March I went to see MarchFourth.  Imagine the lovechild of a marching band and Cirque du Soleil.  It was fun as hell.  Everyone in the venue was dressed up in costume but I got the most attention because I was in full Devo jumpsuit and powerdome.  Always a party when I wear it.

This saturday I'm going to see The Macks.  Local Portland band but they kill it.  Saw them open for Wine Lips last year - also in my Powerdome.

skloss and the well at 29th street ballroom. skloss is a husband and wife duo that plays heavy, atmospheric psych rock. they were really good. the well crushed it with the stoner riffs, as always. glad this venue is hosting concerts again, it's nice to have an option that's not in the middle of downtown.

Saw them last night in OKC for the first time, it was great. They are clearly having a blast, which means it’s easy for the audience to as well.

They came through Austin a handful of times during the mid-late 2000s and were a fucking blast- loved seeing them.

The Macks KILLED!
I have a feeling that they'll be on the road for a couple of years and blow up. Fucking awesome show.

@tbone_ I wore my power dome just for you. Had at least 50 people come talk to me because of it. Always a good time in a power dome.

I'm actually going to see Devo in May at the Cruel World Festival in Cali.2d5e3567d532861a65cd1474b87452cf.jpg2360b5e9e8ad891299d0f3b4e5d20f5b.jpg609d793892f2b592806ddfaee3f9ed63.jpg

Deftones are in Austin tonight

I’m going to the Detroit show 4/1

been seeing video on their instagram and they are playing big shows again! I’m VIP 1st 10 rows guaranteed and I’m nervous because the whole main floor is A mosh pit. Too old for that shit

was in the pit for deftones last night, it was fun and you have nothing to worry about. pretty wild how big they are now, tons of young kids there. nice stage production and chino sounded good. 7 words is so damn good live. mars volta played their entire new unreleased album, not a huge fan of theirs but they had their moments. they have a female singer in the band now.

Luck Reunion yesterday.

20250313_113932.thumb.jpg.7c4fd4db3b40268324784cd13a1e89b9.jpg

Bounced around and saw several acts.  Wanted to see Steve Earle and Charlie Crockett, but the chapel holds less than 100 people and I didn't want to wait in line for hours.

Chaparelle was entertaining covering Kris Kristoffeson songs.  Several people came out to sing with them - Margo Price, Lukas Nelson, Charlie Sexton, and Grace Bowers.

20250313_165059.thumb.jpg.b621d7fa525d1c9ce602607a1d5b2c17.jpg

Never heard of Grace Bowers, but she can really play the guitar.  Ended up watching a good part of her set.

Shane Smith and the Saints always puts on a good show.

The wife really wanted to see Arcade Fire.  They were playing in the saloon which holds about 200 people.  There was a huge line outside during the earlier act, so we just camped out on the porch to see if we could hear from out there.   When the previous act ended, everyone was supposed to leave the saloon - they refused.   Security came and some people left, but the majority just sat down. Eventually, they started let some people in.  It was kaos and during the confusion, the wife just climbed through an open window.

While she was watching Arcade Fire, I watched Lucinda Williams.  Arcade Fire went long due to the mess, so I caught Willie singing Whiskey River and Stay All Night.

Back to the saloon.  The Preservation Hall Band played the last couple of songs with Arcade Fire and then marched outside playing Iko Iko.

Long day, but we had a great time.  Until next year . . .

I heard Ken Pomeroy on Sun or KUTX today.  Interesting name for a female singer songwriter (not to mention the commonality with the guy behind the KenPom basketball ranking system).  She kinda mined a ground between Son Volt and Kasey Chambers.  I thought she was really good.

I saw Rev Horton Heat at Granada last night because he’s a Dallas icon. The opener was a punk tejano band - Pinata Protest out of San Antonio. They were very entertaining. If you get the chance, check out one of their shows.

Saw the Eagles at the Sphere Friday night.  10/10 would recommend..  Saw them the first time at Florida Field (before it was dubbed the Swamp) in 1979.  Like most folks my age, I am pretty jaded about the music having heard on a loop for 50 years but damn did that show breath new life.

Very cool indeed. I'm not a huge Eagles fan. Kind of cool that Dallas guitar legend Chris Holt recently joined the band as a full-time member.

Got some promo tix to Sturgill + Skynyrd in Georgetown 4/6 (Two Step Inn Festival).  I've never seen Sturgill, I'm looking forward to it.

I got my wristband / ticket for Sunday about a week ago.

I have a pretty aggressive schedule that weekend.

Friday night - Feel is putting on a free outdoor show in the square in garland. Garland has a surprisingly nice little outdoor thing going on there. Gonna grab some new haven style pizza at Fortunate Son and then take in the show.

Sat - drive to austin and do the Isbell show at ACL live

Sun - two step inn - I’m also looking to catch the ryan bingham show in addition to skynyrd and sturgill.

Mon - drive back to dallas

Tues - pretend to work
