Turns out we'll be at the Jack White show (Mohawk) tonight after all.  Should be a madhouse.

will be there as well.  I know they open at 5PM but they say doors at 8pm.  Mohawk usually allows in/out but who knows for this show.

We'll get there ~ 7:30, I'm definitely not hanging out for hours drinking shitty beer.

Well, it wouldn't be the first time, but still.

ha yeah.  shitty beer is fine but expensive shitty beer is the worst.  when does your daughter's band go on?

She thinks 9 PM.

EDIT:  heads up, temperatures are supposed to get a little chilly

He played at Continental this afternoon.
I’m not a fan of Mohawk when it’s crowded. The sight lines can be pretty shitty. I usually just end up on the top deck if I can’t get down front. The beer choices are quite good though.

Same. I saw The Black Keys there during SXSW this year, and it was probably the most uncomfortable I’ve ever been at a show. I walked out early because of it.

I was still bummed I didn’t get tickets for tonight though. Really glad he’ll be back in May at my favorite venue.

Holy.  Shit.

Jack White was FAR better than I expected he would be.  I spent most of the show in a terrible spot on the top balcony, but managed to get backstage (stage right) for a few songs, and the sound was spectacular, full-range, and LOUD.  Watching his band from 10-20 feet was damn near transformative.  Those dudes can play.

Some people love him, some hate him.

I just happen to be a huge fanboy an love everything he does and have enjoyed everything he's put out since the early 00's

It started out with liking one song/video (Fell in Love w/ a Girl) buying the CD and loving every song...then back buying the 2 previous albums, then everything since.

Dead Weather and Raconteurs are fucking awesome as well if you haven't checked them out.

II have their first album, it's not something I listen to a lot, but I can respect the guy for doing what he does . . . very well.

Seemed like they way over sold Jack White ( or too many guest list spots). Never seen Mohawk that bad ( including SXSW etc). Got to the show 40m before the opener (and it took 40m to get in) and still ended up having to watch the show from entrance to the inside bar. It was a good show, probably would have been great if you had a decent spot on the floor.

It was borderline criminal how oversold that show was.  Way too many people had no chance of seeing anything.  My wife found a spot at the point where the stairs start down from the top balcony.  I stood on the step below her and got kicked out by security.  I didn't really care, there was a fill monitor right above us and it completely ruined the net sound because it was delayed from the stage.  I just wandered around the club for a while before finding my kid and going backstage.

i assume the capacity of a venue is based on square footage but the problem at mohawk is you can only see the stage from like half (being generous) of the venue.

yeah, the capacity is 900.  the floor is probably 400 max. and the upper balconies are probably 100 or so total on the rails.  we got there about 6:00 because I told my friend if you want a rail and not the floor you better be one of the first 100 in.

Great show but no encore was weird.  a short encore of 7 nation and/or steady as she goes would have been nice.  new songs are good old school Jack.  he only played about 75 minutes.

I see they'll be back, headlining at The Mohawk on Valentine's Day

If you go don't miss Farmer's Wife.  That was my daughter's original band (then called Sludge) and they are really on the rise.

Die Spitz also put on a great show considering they had about 50 square feet to work with.

The perils of the support act.  They're used to it.

This is a free show for all y'all in Austin.
Might need to make a reservation.0f2976d93080c74371932ee5386e67cc.jpg

That looks pretty cool.  There is nothing I found on their website or socials that mention it at all.  We might go down and check it out after the Texas game.

Iron Maiden in SA on Sun seems interesting. Never seen them.  Recommend?

Highly recommend.   I saw two of their shows on this tour.  The set list leans heavily on the albums “Somewhere in Time” and their most recent album “Senjutsu.”   I enjoyed it a lot more second time knowing what to expect.

Crazy, a free show with Steve Earle, Charlie Sexton, Marcia Ball, Terry Allen?  Might swing by.

Had a buddy text me from the show say there was an Arc Angels reunion and they were playing Bowie.

My first concert was at the Beaumont Civic Center in '81. Scorpions opened for Iron Maiden. Scorpions' lead singer got hit in the head with whiskey bottle from the balcony after 2-3 songs then Maiden came on. Whole place went nuts

I went to the ACL 50 show last night.  While I don't need to see Gary Clark Jr any more in my remaining years on this planet, and I had no interest in Leon Bridges or The Mavericks, all were enjoyable.  I will always pay to see Lyle Lovett and Shawn Colvin (and they played together!), so that was a treat.

Billy Strings, holy shit, I am not a bluegrass guy but the dude has amazing skills.  I know, news flash.

Ultimately, I was most impressed with the Indigo Girls' song swap.  I am not ashamed to admit that I typically can't stand "folk" music, be it Indigo Girls, Joan Baez, Judy Collins, whatever, it's just so damn precious, but last night Indigo Girls graciously opened the stage to Brandy Clark (double holy shit, she was fantastic), Cam and others.  And then they played "Closer To Fine" and I remembered when that song dominated the airwaves, and all was good.  Nice job, Amy & Emily.

Tried to grab Jack White tickets for ACL Live. For both nights, I never saw the GA floor tickets become available.  They were not available in the presale either.  Any idea what's going on with those tickets?

I didn't see them either.  there were 2 presales.  Did you check both? I didn't do either presale. I wonder if he is going to do a thing where he throws some floor tix out later to screw with the scalpers.

I ended up getting 2 singles in Mezz.

I think you have to see Billy Strings live to really appreciate what he’s all about. Probably even a headliner show where he can do his full set.

I have tix to see him in FW in a couple weeks. I’ve found some great vids online, but where should I start with his recorded stuff?
I got tix for Jack White in dallas.

At south side? I’ll see you there.

Just saw Modest Mouse.  They’re touring on the 20th anniversary of “Good news for people who like bad news”.
Great show…. You know what you’re getting and the crowd energy is right up there.  See them if you can

Here's a fun vid of Billy with my guy Cory.  Hang on for the funk breakdown.  It's so weird, but Billy killed it.

Iron Maiden in Santiago, Chile was absolutely insane. 75,000 people who knew every single word to every single song. Wow. Maiden and Chile have something special going on that all started when the Catholic church would let them perform here in '86. That was crazy intense.
