Is this a rhetorical question, or have you just stuck in a cave for the last few months?

I'm just wondering how you know from a political standpoint not providing assistance for immigrant children at the border is more popular than providing assistance for immigrant children at the border.

Oh, so now we've reached the point where you pretend to be dense.

The bill that passed does nothing to protect the children, which is the goddamn reason we're having the discussion.

The House (read Dems) passed a bill that explicitly aims to protect the children.  The Senate (read GOP) refused to bring it to a vote.

Stop pretending to be dense to prove some pedantic point.  We know you love Nancy, but facts are facts...she fucking caved.

Let DHS run out of money and watch the GOP scramble for cover.  The Senate would pass the House Bill in a New York minute.

The Senate passed a House bill. It was sponsored by Nita Lowey.

No.

Let's see:

  • president is enabling and approving of a communist dictator regime to become a nuclear power
  • president has obstructed every congressional investigation into his administration and personal emoluments
  • president is attacking co-equal branches of government as "traitors" when they don't follow his wishes
  • president's executive policy is separating families and pushing them into concentration camps

you're right, we're just not there yet on impeachment [/dennison][/pelosi]

So the 100 plus Democrats who supported the bill should have sucked it up and gone home without passing anything.

That's smart. That's really good politics.

This is the problem we face as a nation.  Politicians care more about winning reelection than doing the right thing.  They are, ostensibly, elected to represent their constituency, but most just care about the ones writing the big checks.

So, forgive me for not giving a shit about good politics.  I'm much more interested in effective leadership.  Pelosi might be one hell of a politician, but she sucks as a leader.

Nancy's first duty is to manage the welfare of the Party. She can't do anything that will damage the Party, Party over Country!

In other news, Rep. Amash committed political suicide by calling out Trump and his own Party.

Maureen Dowd's interview with Pelosi was pretty astonishing.  Pelosi has completely lost touch with her own party.

Quote

On Saturday, New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd published an interview with House Speaker Nancy Pelosi that reads like an excerpt from The Great Gatsby reimagined for the 21st century. In Dowd’s telling, Pelosi savored chocolates “with delight,” decked out in “purple Manolo heels” as she regaled Dowd with war stories about “her vineyard getaway in Napa” and the time U2′s lead singer attended a speech she gave in Ireland.

“Bono came,” she told Dowd, apparently with a bright grin. “And that was really fabulous.”

If that's the case, her party should remove her.

not a terrible day for madame Speaker

She’s sill losing.  The battlefield is public opinion.  The battlefield has always been public opinion. Nancy has surrendered that space to Trump and to a lesser extent AOC who are driving the media narratives and currently shaping public opinion.

Trump just had his highest approval rating yet.  That is an “in your fucking face” indicator that Pelosi has failed on a massive scale.  She completely mishandled the Mueller Report which is a bag of smoking guns.  She hasn’t pressed hard enough on the tax returns.

Nancy pulled off one of the greatest bait and switches of all time going from, “I’m going to hold Trump accountable” to “We need to focus on 2020.”  It’s political party over country horseshit at its worst.

Nancy Pelosi is Paul Ryan lite.

Trump did not just have his highest approval rating yet. The number that keeps being reported is only among registered voters.

His approval rating is where it's always been.

Even if we assume that’s true, it’s still an indictment of Pelosi’s ineffectiveness.

I will say this though, she still has time to turn it around.  However, over the last six months, she has squandered a tremendous opportunity to go hard to the paint on this administration.  Under no circumstances should they be holding hearings with witnesses behind closed doors.  Those days should be over.  She should be hanging McConnell’s dirty laundry out to dry too.

How many phone calls have you made to the Office of the Speaker of the House?

Fuck off with that bullshit.  She shouldn’t have to listen to me to know what to do.  She should do the job she was elected to do.

That's what she's doing. You just don't like it. There's a way for you to voice your displeasure. They'll actually talk to you.

I agree with most of your points. I just don't agree that she's not doing her job. She's doing what she thinks is best for the party and for the caucus. That's her job as Speaker of the House.

If you don't like it, lobby Democrats for a new speaker. She can be removed at any time.

I'm calling bullshit on that. No fucking politician gives two soft shits about what a constituent thinks or wants. All they care about is getting those sweet lobbying bucks and appeasing the interests of people who have money.

At least that's been my personal experience so far with my direct representatives.

My personal experience has been the complete opposite. One thing I learned working in Washington is that the vast majority of members will bend over backward to help a constituent that actually takes time to contact them personally.

How in the fuck do I get that same sort of breakthrough to my representatives then? Show up in DC, suck their dick, and write them a check for $10k? Because so far that seems to be fucking bar for entry.

And Pelosi sure does love that corporate cheese and protecting corporate interests in the same fucking way that every shitty neolib has for the last couple decades.

EDIT: I guess what I'm saying is that you're either full of shit on this particular topic, or you're blinded by your singular personal experiences in washington.

Go to their district office and ask to speak with them. Or if you are in DC when Congress is in session, go by their office. Most of the time you'll get a chance to talk to them if you try.

Yeah sure, let me just take a week off of work, fly to DC, get a hotel, and hope to not get ignored by a politician that statistically demonstrably ignores what their constituents want. I call my senators offices on a weekly basis and my email correspondance via their .gov site takes literally months to get any sort of response, and even then it's not answering the question I actually asked.

I don't fucking believe you one bit that our representatives give a single fuck about what their constituents want. Sure, they may do what we want sometimes because it aligns with their interests, but far and away it's just protecting their own asses and wallets.

I've been trying to speak to even just a staffer for months and I haven't gotten fucking anywhere because I'm asking questions that aren't answerable by buzzwords and talking points.

Nancy is cut from the same cloth as my shitty senators. Her lack of action on what her caucus is fucking rioting for, and even making light of it, is evidence enough of that. I don't believe that any of these reps that are of the "old guard" really give a fuck past getting another couple years in office.

I don’t need to talk to Pelosi to know my views are being heard.  She is taking shit from all directions.  Just read the replies to any of her recent tweets.  The only people protecting her are republicans/centrists that thinks she has some master plan.

Even if she does have some master plan (she doesn’t), her moves thus far indicate that plan sucks.

She's being protected by the caucus that voted her Speaker of the House.

She'll get chosen again if they hold the House.

They don't care about informed constituents, because there's so few of them. Nancy and her ilk want people who are team players and defer their views to whatever they hear from campaign ads.

And she'll get chosen again because she's great at sucking up those sweet lobbying bucks and distributing it to her caucus. Money is what makes washington work, and nancy keeps the trough full. Nancy doesn't garner support by pushing policies that her caucus is interested in and supports. She does it by changing ballot rules to make dissenting voices be named and shamed. She prefers a stick to a carrot, and it's going to lead to the democratic party being a fucking dumpster fire just like it has been since 2012. BECAUSE SHE WAS FUCKING RUNNING IT THEN TOO!

And what I'm saying is, maybe her job should be acting like a co-equal branch of government and driving accountability. Ya know, rather than selling out to corporate interests being a fundraising specialist. Because fundraising doesn't fix our broken system, and it arguably perpetuates and worsens the problem.

Given that she's committing gross political malpractice, to the extent this is true it's a huge fucking indictment of her political acumen.

She can slow play the public calls for impeachment and still coordinate a party message against Trump and the GOP based on shit like this, the latest rape accusation, Trump's refusal to cooperate with any oversight efforts, etc.  The Republicans spent six years screaming about Benghazi and got Donald fucking Trump elected President as a result. Pelosi saw that and apparently the lesson she took from it was... loudly opposing a president from the other party is bad?
