Having a hard time thinking what the best football movie would be.  Lots are good, none really great.

This board probably thinks its something like Concussion.

Somewhere between Brian's Song and The Waterboy.

I like RTT for what it is.  I liked how the player interaction was portrayed. The parental piece had to be total shit in real life.  I struggled with them having training camp and having rooming arrangements like a college.  AFAIK, nobody in Texas does that in High School.

Any Texan who doesn’t say, “FNL” isn’t much of a Texan.

It’s FNL. And yes I know their real season didn’t play out exactly like that. Still a great movie.

Yup. And FNL gets bonus points for Explosions in the Sky. Perfect fit for the film.

I'm pretty much a lifelong fan of Texas High school football.  Varsity Blues is a MUCH better representation of reality, IMHO.  FNL sucks.

Not sure if serious. You can argue that FNL sucks, I don’t think you can argue Varsity Blues is more realistic in any way

You never played small town football did you? I don’t mean every literal scene in the movie, but the behavior is absolutely stuff that I witnessed and/ or experienced. That’s everything from the parental interaction, the coach’s manipulation of the students and towns people, girls chasing whoever the hottest star is only do switch on a dimeand yes, a stolen cop car not by me… and I never had a teacher who was a stripper, but we did find a stash of lingerie in the back of her custom van while we were getting some class supplies out from it. Also knew of two different female teachers that were banging football players that were seniors or juniors.

FNL was an interpretation by someone who never played Texas High School football trying to channel their inner Oliver Stone

How dumb would you feel to know that FNL was the inspiration for Varsity Blues?

Not dumb at all. They are too totally different movies.

did you play high school football or not? I answered your questions…

My freshman year yeah. Probably would’ve been a starter on varsity as a sophomore but I was better at baseball so I focused on that.
