Data recovery SA

Long story short.

Son's computer died yesterday.  Windows won't boot. Tried dell recovery, Windows recovery and no luck. Gives me a checksum error. At this point all I want to do is pull data from the drive.  Dell diagnostic says drive is good. Anyone know a data recovery service that can do this in SA for cheap? I know it is not a cheap problem. Just looking for help.

If you have another computer, you can connect the bad drive to it and try to copy the data from there.  You'll need to bu something like this to connect it.  And you also have to make sure there is power to the drive.  Otherwise, it may cost a couple of hundred dollars at least depending on how much data is on the hard drive.

@TwiceHorn  was this in anyway similar to the issue with your FIL's computer  ?    Perhaps relate your experience.

Windows encryption isn't special, all you need to do is enter the password and you should get access. If not you can try a Linux machine. Is this an HDD or an SSD?

Doesn't sound like it.  That was simply some kind of glitch, appeared to be windows update related, that shut him out of drive without bitlocker key, which we never did find or recover.  I assume, though, that had he had the key, we would have entered it and resumed normal operation.

Best Buy I think reinstalled W11 and encountered no hardware problems, afaik.
