imo, the list of the top 5 american-born players who haven't won an mvp and are most likely to would be:

1 - jayson tatum

2 - zion williamson

3 - ja morant

4 - anthony edwards

5 - donovan mitchell

i don't even feel that strongly about mitchell, but could see him getting it a little bit more than i could see a guy like trae young getting it.  i think the time has come and gone for guys like dame, jimmy butler, kawhi, etc. and it's still too early for sure to know on the guys who were drafted in the past two drafts.

Move Edwards over Ja and remove Mitchell from the list imo. Ja is just too small imo to hold up over the course of the year as the best player in the game. Mitchell just isn’t good enough period imo. Agree on the guys you aged out and the new guys.

I don’t buy that for Luka, which sucks for me as a Mavs fan because that roster ain’t it, and they have very little flexibility to drastically improve. Bad vibes of LeBron’s first stint in Cleveland.

Literally ZERO doubt in my mind Jokic or Luka would win a championship if you put two other HOF players around them. Much of NBA legacy is built on rings though so don't blame guys like LeBron or KD for leaving.

But Lebron in Cleveland his first time didn't have a winner around him, KD did, which is why Durant leaving to go to GS of all places was an enormous bitch move. Lebron only went 2 for 4 in Miami after assembling the team anyways, and if not for a miraculous rebound and Ray Allen 3, he would have been 1 for 4.

If Luka or Jokic force their way out of a losing situation, I can't really fault them for it. Maybe the Mavs and Nuggets could work out a timeshare where they pair the 2 together for 1 year at a time and swap them back and forth every off-season... Lol

I wonder how things play out if okc trades Westbrook instead of harden.

Yes, because if there’s one thing James Harden has proven is that he can be trusted to be a better player in the playoffs and not choke when the moment gets big.

Lol that's rich coming from a Spurs fan who watched Harden lead the WCF comeback against the Spurs, down 2-0 to win 4 in a row.  They lost to Miami in the next round, but it was obvious to everyone that OKC team would be a contender for a while.

It was obvious. How many did they win again? How many championships did ol’ James hang in Houston/Brooklyn/Philly? He’ll always have that series win over the Spurs in 2012, though.

Who was the winner with KD in OKC?

There is some revisionist history about the Harden trade and the Westbrook angle is the underrated part.  They had already signed Westbrook to a long term deal so the choice was between Serge Ibaka and Harden.  No one at the time thought Harden would be as good as he turned out to be but even then, if they keep Harden, you're looking at a lineup of Westbrook, Harde, Durent, and two spares in the front court.  That's a horrible defensive lineup and not winning anything.

The real question is the one you posed.  What if they had traded Westbrook for a traditional PG and kept Harden and Serge?

Hindsight is 20/20.

What a great night Donovan Mitchell, he even pulled the Luka missed free throw, rebound, putback to tie/win the game move! He somehow ends up with the ball and tosses it back up for 2 to tie the game with 3 seconds to go. Insane play, and he scored 13 points in OT to put the game away!

Should have been KD when they were up 3-1 on Golden State.

The Okies are the only ones that can’t see that nobody was ever winning anything with Westbrook on point.

(things we have established now- KD can ball out in playoff games. Westbrook can’t)

KD led both teams in scoring, was third in rebounding, and played good defense. He even played winning basketball in game 7. It was never going to be enough.

Interesting, but I doubt much will come of it, likely settled out of court. This sounds like a civil suit, not a criminal one, so the 17 year old likely wants a payday.

Quote

The plaintiff, according to the docs, said the argument became heated, and he threw a basketball at Morant -- "accidentally" hitting him in the face. The teenager said the Grizzlies point guard then approached him, put his chin on his shoulder, and asked a bystander "Should I do it to him?" The teen says Morant then struck him "with a closed fist, knocking him to the ground."

According to the docs, the 17-year-old said Morant then "continued sticking him while on the ground" -- and claims another man jumped in and began hitting him as well.

Officers in the docs say they noted the teenager had "a large knot" on his head.

In the docs, cops say Morant told them he did strike the teenager, but insisted he was acting in self-defense. Morant said the plaintiff threw the ball at him "intentionally" during the argument, and then "began to approach him as if he wanted to fight."

Police say Morant also told them "his brother" was involved in the altercation as well -- but the basketball player did not name the man.

Both parties, according to the docs, said the fight was broken up by spectators shortly after it began. Morant told officers the teenager "made verbal threats stating he'd 'light his house up'" as he was being escorted off the property. Morant "advised he and his family were put in fear by the statement."

According to the docs, police investigated the allegations for several weeks ... before they submitted the case to the district attorney's office on Oct. 4. Less than a month later, cops say the DA declined prosecution.

It's unclear what the plaintiff is seeking in the suit. Court records show Morant, as well as his childhood friend Davonte Pack, are listed as defendants.

He was at Ja's house, with Ja and his friends.   He's lucky that's all he got and he is only suing cause Ja has money.  He knows if he does that shit on any court he is subject to get his ass kicked.   Thems the rules

How many NBA seasons will Zion last??

(My guess is 6 or 7yrs tops)

Zion Williamson out at least 3 weeks with hamstring strain

Quote

New Orleans Pelicans forward Zion Williamson has been diagnosed with a right hamstring strain, the team announced Tuesday evening.

The team said Williamson will be reevaluated in three weeks.

Williamson was injured late in the third quarter Monday night in a loss to the 76ers in Philadelphia. After gathering a rebound off a miss from Joel Embiid, Williamson pushed the ball up court. As soon as he crossed the half-court line, he seemed to feel something in his right hamstring.

Williamson dribbled to the corner and handed the ball off to teammate Dyson Daniels while grabbing at his right leg.

After a missed shot, Pelicans center Jonas Valanciunas fouled Philadelphia's Tyrese Maxey on a fast-break layup and Williamson checked out of the game with 24.1 seconds left in the third quarter.

Williamson underwent an MRI on Tuesday once the team got back to New Orleans to show the extent of the injury.

At practice earlier Tuesday, Pelicans coach Willie Green did not have an update on Williamson's status other than that he would miss Wednesday's game against the Houston Rockets.

Williamson has played in 29 of a possible 37 games this season for New Orleans. He missed two games in late October with a lower back/right hip contusion after a hard fall against the Utah Jazz. In mid-November, he missed three games with a right foot contusion after he stepped on Rockets center Usman Garuba's foot on a drive to the basket.

Around Christmas, Williamson missed three games because of health and safety protocols.

Williamson is averaging 26.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 1.1 steals per game this season. He's shooting 60.8% from the field and 71.4% from the line.

December was one of the best months of Williamson's young career. He averaged 29.8 points per game and put up a career-best 43 points on Dec. 28 against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

New Orleans also has been dealing with an injury to forward Brandon Ingram, who hasn't played since Nov. 25 because of a left big toe contusion.

On Tuesday, Green said Ingram was doing more on-the-floor work but that he hasn't completed a full practice yet. Ingram is also listed as out for Wednesday's game against the Rockets.

OKC scored a franchise record 150 against the Celtics without SGA.  The Jalen Williams kid they got out of Santa Clara can really play.

They actually have a good young core of wings.  Giddey took some time to get going this year but in December averaged 15/9/5 while shooting 43% from three.  Cali Jalen can play and a legit NBA body and can play 3-4 positions.  Somehow, Isiah Joe was waived by Philly for nothing but is #7 in the league in three point % and can score immediately off the bench.

Their big men are mostly borderline NBA guys and they have some injuries right now on them.  I'm curious to what Chet looks like next year.  If he can play and they can find another big or two, they might be the 4-6 seed in the playoffs.

Somehow they beat Memphis and Boston both without SGA.

NBA League Pass people, how do you watch games for local/regional teams that are blacked out? I can basically never watch a game involving the Blazers live. Is it based on billing zip code or IP address? Like if I access the app via VPN that says I'm in Dusseldorf or whatever would I be able to bypass the local blackout?

i believe that using a VPN would work. ive had issues before where for some reason it will switch me and say that i live in the bay area, and suddenly all bay area games are blacked out but i can now watch all games from texas. when i've called up there to get it fixed they've said something about it showing my ip as being in the bay area, only for them to put me on hold for a second see that my zip code is 78660. i don't know if this helps you, but that's all i've got.

the following has worked on both my android, windows 10 desktop, and macbook pro running ios.  we were in houston the past couple weeks and the mavs played there twice so i had to do the following (and i do this whenever we're playing the spurs since austin is a spurs market.)

i use chrome.  i have a VPN extension that will place me in another part of the USA.  make sure it's not international.

1.)  log out of nba.com

2.)  turn on VPN

3.)  open a private browsing window

4.)  log in to nba.com

5.)  before you select which game you want to watch, turn off your VPN

6.)  NOW select which game you want to watch and it should be fine.

obviously on my android i don't have a chrome vpn extension, i just use a VPN app.

There's 6 players averaging 30+ right now. Another 2 averaging 29.

Is that actually a good thing for basketball? I watch these games and a lot of them resemble all star games with the poor level of defensive effort. I don't buy that scorers have just suddenly gotten that good.

Lots of heliocentric teams with guys with insane usage numbers.
