Is he still 255? I know "large humans" have been the theme since Sark and Flood came into town. I haven't seen a number like that since Raulerson.

And +1 on the University Lab bit. When was the last time a highly-rated prospect went somewhere other than LSU (too lazy to google/chatgpt that)?

Dylan Moses, but he transferred to IMG to avoid that shitstorm. His brother stayed at ULab and went to LSU.

What's the story on Davian Groce out of Frisco? Very highly rated RB for 2026 with intriguing versatility. Running style has a bit of VY's gallop to it, with sub-11.00 speed as a freshman. (No, he's clearly not VY.)

I assume Choice just likes Osborne way more as a true centerpiece RB, but maybe something else is keeping us from courting Groce as an athlete. Pretty good offer list that as far as I can see doesn't include Texas.

Yeah, he seems to have tremendous upside with a rare combo of size and speed by the time he graduates.  Rushed for over 900 yds and receiving yards over 800.

The Stampede: 10 important 2026 prospects ahead of 2024 season
A look into important 2026 prospects ahead of a crucial time in the recruiting cycle — junior seasons.
Horns247 Staff

Holding only two commitments at this point in time, the Texas Longhorns currently sit as the No. 14 recruiting class in the nation in 2026 with two pledges from Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage five-star quarterback Dia Bell and Pearland Shadow Creek four-star wide receiver Chris Stewart.

With an elite signal caller like Bell already in the fold, especially one that does as much work as Bell does behind the scenes, Texas is poised for another top five recruiting finish in 2026.

Having a good in-state class at positions like running back, wide receiver, offensive line, and in the secondary will make signing a top five class a little easier, but like all other cycles out of state additions will still need to be made.

Regardless, Texas has the potential to finish as high as top three in 2026 and is already on the right track with several priority prospects heading into their junior season.

Well in this edition of The Stampede, Horns247's weekly gathering of recruiting intel, the Horns247 recruiting team breaks down 10 important prospects in 2026 ahead of the 2024 season (in no order).

*Like with all prospects heading into their junior season, these guys' play this fall will go a long way in determining each players' long term fit on the board next spring. Meaning, you could see Texas back off of some of these names as they turn to new ones who will find themselves emerging by the end of the 2024 season.*

Javian Osborne, RB, Forney

There's a strong argument that Osborne is RB1 for the Longhorns in 2026. The talented junior has long held an offer from Texas, and visited multiple times, including most recently for the Texas Bash Pool Party. UT is battling programs like Oklahoma, Michigan, and Alabama, among others, to keep Osborne home.

"Texas, they fit in high," he told Horns247 a couple weeks ago. "They are at the top of the list for sure. Just the standpoint of the running back room. Of course they've had great running backs in the past. Ricky Williams, Bijan Robinson, Roschon, all those different guys. Texas, they're very high on my list. They give their running backs the ball. Coach Choice and how they develop their running backs, that's what leads me to Texas, how they do things."

Osborne is expected back in town this fall for the Georgia game, as well as the Red River Shootout in Dallas. (SOUTH)

Jordan Clay, WR, San Antonio Madison

Texas has surged for Clay since April when the program hosted the four-star wide out for the Orange-White Game. UT hadn't offered at that point, but Clay stayed patient, returned for camp in June, and got the good news. Clay called it a dream offer, and it's clear the Longhorns hold a special place in the nearby pass catcher's recruitment. Clay returned to the Forty Acres for the Texas Bash Pool Party last month, and said UT sits atop his list following the event. Texas A&M and Baylor are two others of note for Clay at this point in time. He'll likely be back on campus at some point this fall, however, Madison has several Saturday games this season, so it could be difficult to coordinate visits around that. No matter, Texas has positioned itself well here. (SOUTH)

John Turntine III, OT, North Crowley

This is probably the name you're most familiar with of the different names on this list, and for a variety of reasons. He's obviously really talented, checking in as a five-star, is the number one O-Lineman on Texas' 2026 board, and he's visited the Forty Acres a handful of times this offseason as well.

Although Horns247 has some form of confidence Texas is the leader as things currently stand, we are aware a lot of this recruitment is still yet to run its course as Turntine is still yet to start taking visits to out of state programs. Once that happens we could see some ebbs and flows, as Horns247 is also aware of several out of state programs who similarly currently have Turntine as their No. 1 OL target in 2026.

Regardless, Texas is an attractive position early having gotten Turntine to campus at least four if not five times already this year, as well as a game day visit that took place last fall where Turntine collected his offer. The Longhorns might also hold an advantage in proximity being a few hours away from home in North Crowley, as well as having a family member as a student at the school as well as another family member at Huston-Tillotson University. (SCRUGGS)

Jalen Lott, ATH, Frisco Panther Creek

The son of Longhorn legend James Lott, there's a ton to like about what Lott brings to the table. He's a legitimate Top247 prospect on either side of the ball (watch the tape) and the multisport athletic profile is one of the best in the nation — 6-8 high jump, 24-3 long jump, 13.38 100M hurdles (2022 time).

After splitting touches with Parker Livingstone and Daylan McCutcheon at Lovejoy last season, Lott has transferred into Frisco Panther Creek and will be going both ways for the Panthers this fall. Texas, like many other schools, is taking the athlete approach in recruiting Lott and is pursuing him to play either side of the ball. Regardless, Lott is the caliber of athlete that you get to campus and just figure it out later. Horns247's Hank South already threw in an early 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Texas landing Lott in the long run. (SCRUGGS)

Dylan Berymon, DL, Monroe (La.) Ouachita Parish

You have to include interior defensive line among most important prospects in the early going. Texas will work to load up at the position in '26 and Berymon is a key target. LSU is trending on the Crystal Ball as things stand for the 6-foot-2, 305-pounder, but Texas has the junior's attention. Berymon visited the Forty Acres in late May, then stayed with family in the area for the rest of the week before camping with the program on June 1.

"Man, me and his relationship, we're like locked in," Berymon said of his bond with UT defensive line coach Kenny Baker. "To me he's like a father figure. I mean, to me, Coach Baker, I love how he coaches guys. He's just like Coach Bo (Davis). To me, they both keep it real and they stay on to you."

Don't be surpassed to see this one turn into a Texas-LSU race. (SOUTH)

Tiki Hola, DL, Bastrop

We talked about an out-of-state defensive lineman important to Texas' 2026 efforts, now let's focus on a local prospect in Hola. The Bastrop standout has been a regular in Austin, making the short drive over four times this year already. The 6-foot-2, 285-pounder spoke about why the Longhorns are standing out early in an interview with Horns247's Jordan Scruggs earlier this year.

"Just seeing him develop this team has been really great and since he's been at Texas," Hola said. "Texas has really come a long way and just seeing them develop, they did alright last year but they were really developing into a national championship contender for years to come."

Notre Dame, Oregon, and USC are some others in the mix at this juncture. (SOUTH)

Jamarion Carlton, EDGE, Temple

There's an argument to be made that Carlton should be the highest ranked front seven prospect on the 2026 board. Coming in at 6-foot-4.5, a shade below 240 pounds with an 82 inch wingspan and 35 inch arms, there's a lot to like about Carlton's athletic profile that also features super explosive basketball tape as well as a 38-8 shot put rep and a 99-5 discus throw from this past spring.

Listed as a defensive line recruit, Carlton is actually getting recruited by the 'Horns to play EDGE and is working on setting up game visits for this fall after seeing the Forty Acres three times this offseason — Jan. 20 Junior Day, June 1 Texas Elite Camp, and the July 25 Texas Bash Pool Party.

Earlier this summer Horns247 went ahead and threw two early 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions in favor of Texas landing Carlton in the long run. (SCRUGGS)

Daquives Beck, LB, Carthage

It's still early for the in-state' backer, but signs point to this one being a Texas-Texas A&M, with a splash of Texas Tech, race for the 6-foot-1, 192-pounder. Beck worked out for the Texas staff on June 1, and is very fond of first-year linebackers assistant Johnny Nansen and his coaching style. Beck said it reminded him of the coaching he gets at Carthage, which is a plus for UT's chances. Expect to see the rising four-star back on campus at some point this fall. (SOUTH)

Jermaine Bishop, CB, Willis

Bishop, who's listed as a cornerback rather than ATH, is another prospect that's similar to Lott in the way that they're legitimate P4 prospects on either side of the ball and also have decent multisport context and bloodlines as well. The younger cousin of Kansas State great Michael Bishop, Jermaine also plays varsity basketball (has since fresh. year) and runs on Willis' relay teams as well.

In football, Bishop might be pound-for-pound the best player in the state. As a sophomore in 2023, Bishop record 37 tackles, 2 TFLs, 8 PBUs, 5 INTs, 2 pick sixes, 384 rushing yards and 7 touchdowns on 26 attempts (14.8 YPC), oh and he had 1,414 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns off of 80 receptions (17.7 YPC). Bishop also had several return touchdowns as well, and did it all with a 5-foot-11, 155 pound frame in the state's highest classification.

It's still early on for the dynamic two-way prospect and he's kept his recruitment pretty open up to this point, but look for the Longhorns to become one of the main players in this one following the end of his junior season. (SCRUGGS)

Bralan Womack, S, Flowood (Miss.) Hartfield Academy

Texas is almost guaranteed to have to go out of state for at least one of their safety takes in 2026, and Horns247 has been led to believe that Womack is currently holding that No. 1 spot among the secondary group. Womack first tripped to Texas back on Black Friday for the Texas Tech game and returned at the end of July for the July 25 Texas Bash Pool Party. While on campus Womack got to meet Michael Taaffe and the rest of the safety room work in person, and in the time since Womack and Taaffe have been communicating as it looks like the Longhorns might be leaning on the Westlake product to help them land another priority out of state five-star.

With the all-in approach Texas has taken with the Jonah Williams recruitment, Womack's priority could rise if the Longhorns were to miss on the Galveston Ball star as it boosts the need for the safety position in 2026 with Kade Phillips being a hybrid secondary take in 2025. The nation's No. 1 safety prospect, Texas is treating him like it and before Womack left campus on July 25, the staff set up a return visit for Womack and his family to be back in Austin for his birthday weekend when Texas takes on Georgia. (SCRUGGS)

Spoiler

Chris Henry Jr, WR, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei – Ohio State commit
The former Ohio native, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei five-star, and Ohio State commit is preparing for his first season in California. On3’s No. 2 overall prospect in his class still hears from a number of schools, with Oregon and Texas in the mix.

The son of former NFL WR Chris Henry, the younger Henry is quite frankly one of the best receiving recruits in the last decade. He’s solid to the Buckeyes, but the Horns and Ducks would like to change that.

Henry Jr. is fan of the Longhorns and would be open to catching a game this fall. It’s still early here, but it shows the Horns will go after the best, year after year. Time to reopen the Mater Dei pipeline.

Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, WR, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei
Speaking of keeping that Mater Dei pipeline flowing, Texas and the 6-foot-1, 180-pound four-star are getting closer. Dixon-Wyatt connects with Texas on a regular basis and is hitting Austin this Fall for a game is likely.

With Alvin (Texas) Shadow Creek four-star pass-catcher Chris Stewart already in the 2026 class, the Horns are looking at two or three more to join this cycle. After Dia Bell committed, Dixon-Wyatt took notice.

Dixon-Wyatt holds offers from Georgia, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Washington, and Miami. He visited Austin for the Elite Camp on June 1st as well.
