Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: They Can't Keep Getting Away With This

@Hookem2147 mentioned it in the 25 thread, but the in-state DL group for this class is pretty thin.  Have the kid from Bastrop. I went and looked and saw this guy is highly ranked and have never heard of him.

After that not much.  Carlton and Ford are listed as DL, but they are more EDGE players.

Most other positions look pretty strong in-state.

You're just calling him "the guy from Bastrop" when he has a name as fun to say as Tiki Hola???

I can't believe we're now on to the class of '26.

Let's see if we can get the #1 class this time. 2 CFP appearances, possible title appearance. We can be extra selective, especially if we land Justus Terry after few BMD'S say it's time to fuck Georgia.

I'm interested to see how Sark handles in state WR recruiting. Couple of uncommitted legacies that are good players. Already 1 WR committed. No doubt they'll go big game hunting OOS if they like someone.

Who are the legacies? Lott and Finley?

Seems like Lott is going to be highly ranked with everyone wanting him. I haven’t started following heavily so I can’t tell if Finley is in that same range or what.

Not sure which schools are chasing which guys hardest, but Kaylon Finley's junior tape looks solid. Seems to have enough speed, maneuvers well in space (including on jet sweeps), goes after red zone jump balls and will block. Seems like a guy we could use, though that's not to say Sark and Jackson see him as a priority target.

Finley's in the top 100-150 in both on3 and 247, which are the two that I pay attention to. Seems he's legit.

So what's the consensus on the in-state class? Seems like there aren't a ton of elite+ prospects as compared to the last few years. However, I do notice that early in the rankings cycle they tend to underrate prospects from Texas, and a lot of guys end up shooting up after the spring.

Turntine obviously the #1 overall target. Seems like he's been Flood's #1 guy for two cycles, and that he's reciprocating.

Interesting to see four RBs in the Texas top 10. Do we know who we're prioritizing? Is it Osborne?

In 2026, there are four Texas kids in the top 32, 11 in the top 100, and 35 in the top 250 according to 247.

In 2025 there were nine Texas kids in the top 32, 19 in the top 100, and 29 in the top 250.

I took a look at the top 50 in state to see where the depth is:

Very deep at RB. There are 6 RBs in the top 50. Last cycle there were 2.

As has been the trend, the state is exceptionally top-heavy at WR. 14 of the top 50 are WRs, and four are ATHs, which will likely become WRs.

Only 6 OL in the top 50 - 3 OTs and 3 IOL.

No elite QB prospects. Only the kid from Del Valle committed to Arizona State, who is at 124 nationally. We've got our guy so it doesn't matter, but that seems strange there's not at least one kid out there that's highly regarded.

One TE in the top 50, and he's ranked 49 in state and 373 nationally.

On defense, there are 5 DLs in the top 50, but only Hola is a true DT prospect. We're gonna have to go out of state to get some guys, which means only signing 2 or 3 this cycle stresses the 26 cycle even more.

Only 1 Edge and only 3LBs in the top 50.

I'm very surprised at how thin the class is at CB and S. There's only one CB in the top 50, who comes in at 35 in Texas and 250 nationally.

Only two safeties in the top 50, with the highest ranked guy at 31 in-state and 208 nationally. So neither are high four stars.

I can't tell if WRs are being overvalued and artificially suppressing the rankings of non-WRs. Or is it a really thin class - particularly at positions where we need numbers - OL, DT and LB?

Amari Latimer and Javian Osborne are probably 1a and 1b at RB this cycle

Lots of receiver options, so im sure we’ll be patient with Stewart already in the fold.

OL should be a bigger year, but it’s an ongoing eval outside of Turntine and the two guards.

LB should be interesting this cycle with no clear standouts other than the Grayson duo

I haven't watched any film and I assume you have. How good is Stewart, really? If Sarkisian gets his pick of the litter for WRs across the country outside of who Oregon wants, is Stewart a top 5 guy? I haven't heard of that kind of talk for him, but it's early, sure.

With Latimer being here in the Atlanta region, he's not exactly under anyone's radar in the SEC. Easy to see why Choice is high on the guy, because he's a load. Determined and rarely goes down on first contact. Can catch the ball on leaks out of the backfield and has enough speed. A wee bit of Earl in him, in that he usually shrugs off high tackles before getting tripped up. Glad we seem to have a real shot here.

Stewart is a playmaker, but he doesn’t wow with his size, speed, or athleticism. Pretty good after the catch. Also a good school to strengthen ties with. If he’s the third WR take, no one should complain.

Was Zelus previously the top defensive player for 2026 in Ga?

People who have seen Atkinson in person say he is the truth. Anthony Hill-level impact recruit at LB. That one is going to be a bloody rock fight if he drags it out. He is likely #1 or #2 on Texas' list across the nation along with Turntine. It's early, but that dude looks fucking awesome.
