The Stampede: Six major storylines to monitor for the 2026 recruiting class

Harbor City (Calif.) Narbonne three-star Kenneth Goodwin

this kids pretty legit.  Moved to the area from

vegas. The problem is he plays for Narbonne a shit hole school on sanctions for recruiting st the highschool level. Fake addresses etc. so I hope this kid doesn’t come under scrutiny. But he moves well and is a big kid for a sophomore

Same. I just did more than a cursory google search to find the name origination. Only thing I can come up with is it means "you're welcome," in somali. I wonder if he's eastern european based on the double vowel in his last name. Either way it'll be a fun cycle of he commits early of watching everyone misspell and mispronounce his name until a 995er asks the hard question of "how do you pronounce that?"

In all seriousness, if he picks us, do we really need another DE? That's the one position we're stacked at. I won't complain if he picks us, it's just kind of strange.

It does give us an in with TN, I suppose. Never hurts to raid other states. He's a big boy.

6’5” and 260 lbs. Should be a spin down candidate. We can bitch about Mack Brown till the cows come home, but that fucker won a lot of games utilizing that philosophy. If he could gain 30 lbs. the required strength and keep his athleticism, I would have to think he might be a home run.

I think it’s pronounced “Yeah yeah” or more like “Yah yah”

At least that’s how it is for Yahya Mateen II.

Yeah but the shag wanted to spin down everybody to DT as a result. Not sure I'm ready for that again.

For those that want to attach some names/profiles a few of these that haven't been headliners yet. I'm using 247 because it's easier to search offers through them:

Spring IOL: https://247sports.com/Player/nicolas-robertson-46140540/

Katoa: https://247sports.com/Player/pupungatoa-katoa-46140585/

Richardson DL: https://247sports.com/player/jaimeon-winfield-46151839/

As I slowly turn my attention to this class, I truly appreciate these links.

Imagine the night that poor defender had. Watch the play and see.

I arrived to Spring when it was 2A and had lost every game the year before. That year, prior to my arrival, somone had stated that Spring would lose to Tomball (a power at the time) 28 points. The Spring coach at the pep rally declared that the Spring Lions would not lose by 28, by God! Spring lost by 44, so I guess he was right.

By the time I graduated, Spring was 3A and growing fast.

2026 Top247 RB Javian Osborne details possible winter visits, top suitors
Four-star running back Javian Osborne details the latest developments with his recruitment.
Brian Dohn

TEXAS
"I love how coach Sark (Steve Sarkisian) utilizes running backs. He's been recruiting me since freshman year so we are really locked in on that. He's just a great guy. He coached Bijan (Robinson). He coached Roschon (Johnson), Jonathon Brooks and Jaydon Blue and (Quintrevion) Wisner. I think his running back room says a lot. It speaks volume about character, and they have a lot of character in that running back room."

2026 Top247 RB Javian Osborne details possible winter visits, top suitors
Four-star running back Javian Osborne details the latest developments with his recruitment.
Brian Dohn

ORLANDO, Fla. — Javian Osborne, a top-10 running back in the 2026 class, is figuring out his next move. After competing in the Under Armour Next All-America Game, the Forney (Texas) High standout has several schools pushing to get him on campus during the winter visit window, and several others pushing to get him to visit in the spring.

"Alabama wants me to go on Feb. 1," the 5-foot-10, 195-pound Osborne said. "Texas and Notre Dame, they are saying their junior days are the 25th of January.

"I am still deciding which one to go to. We will see."

Also on Osborne's mind are Florida State, Michigan and Texas A&M.

He shared his thoughts on each of the schools:

ALABAMA
"I love how (running backs) coach (Robert) Gillespie sends his guys to the NFL. They breed NFL talent at the running back position. You have guys like (Josh) Jacobs, Derrick Henry and guys like that. They breed NFL running backs and they send them to the NFL."

FLORIDA STATE
"I love coach Mike Norvell. He's a great guy. When I went down there this past summer, I got to sit with him and talk with him and any time you are talking to the head coach, and he wants to talk to you, that means you're a big priority for the school. Florida State is another school I really like."

MICHIGAN
"Running backs) coach TA (Tony Alford), ever since he stepped into office from Ohio State, he's just been recruiting me hard. We've been speaking every day. His knowledge, he's been in the game for a while now. When I went there back in the summertime, I got coached up a lot and he was teaching me about running schemes and was able to choose where the defense was going to go and where the cut back is."

NOTRE DAME
"Running backs) coach (Deland) McCullough and coach (Marcus) Freeman, they have been hitting me up throughout the season, checking in on me. Since he offered me, he told me I am the No. 1 guy on his board. We've been connecting real well. I just got to get up there to see the school. Maybe an official visit or a junior day.

"It means a lot (being atop the board), especially coming from a prestigious program like that. Coach McCullough, you look at his background, he's been in the NFL. One thing that is big, that I like about it, is he's been in the NFL. He has NFL knowledge. He can help you in certain types of ways that are the same as the NFL."

TEXAS A&M
"I love coach (Mike) Elko and coach Troop (running backs coach Trooper Taylor), real good guys. They are truthful. They tell it like it is and I love that. Coach Elko is just a great guy, real straight forward, too. He's straight to the point, which I love."

Except the kid goes to Klein, but glory days and whatnot.

And like the other poster said, you are Armybrat old.  I can say that as a fellow Spring High Graduate because I don't even recall Spring not being 4A/5A

it’s time to give jimbo a break.  he fleeced aggy for about $100MM or so, and he recently sent them into a spiral for throwing up the hookem.  he’s not so bad.

I know. Kind of like the strange new respect I developed for Lincoln Riley after he left OU and took a bunch of players with him.

The "4-star+" and "4-star++" are getting ridiculous

Sort of disagree? the #33 rated player in the country is a 4-star. So is the number 350 ranked dude. There is quite the gulf between the two, necessitating some qualification between a low 4-star, mid 4-star and high 4-star. I don't mind it. I just wish the rankings correlated to industry averages instead of OTF's own unpublished internal rankings system. Seems they inflate guys that show interest in texas when you compare them to how 247 and on3 have them ranked.

On that note, I noticed that On3 has now paywalled how each service ranks a recruit. That sucks because when I wanted to see how a kid was ranked, I would go to On3. Now I guess I'll just go to 247.
