I don't get the guard talk for Turntine at all. In my mind, the prototypical guard is a big beefy mauler. People are thinking Turntine is a guy that's going to get in a phone booth with 340 lb SEC DTs? The book on him is that he's a tactician. That and his body type scream LT to me. You'd just like for him to be like 3 inches taller, ideally.

I don't put a lot of stock in what Ojo says the staff told him or implied to him. I'm sure that we've pointed out to him plenty that we once took two high level tackle prospects in the same class and both of those guys are about to get drafted in the 1st round.

Expand

Typical nonsense. Guy is a stud, but he does not have the proto-typical height. People are confusing what maybe an issue for his draft prospects with his ability to play in college. Ojo may turn out to be the higher drafted player, but Gerry said his career path is different from Turntine. Gerry was saying Ojo is probably going to need a couple years of development before he sees the field. Turntine will likely compete for a starting job early in his time.

I think it’s pretty clear you only have yourself to blame on this. You kept harping on not worrying about the numbers, so now the numbers dorks have channeled their crippling anxiety into worrying about the position fit and convinced themselves one of the best OT prospects to come out of the state of TX in recent years is viewed as a G by our staff, which will ultimately push him away from Texas.

I honestly do not know who in the fuck Trey Scott is. I’ve never heard his name.

One thing I do know is that that dumb fuck isn’t talking to Flood, based on this idiotic take alone.

South’s tune will change when takes a job at OTF and hears what people who are actually accessing the program think about this stupidity. Good lord.

Expand

Honestly, and I'm being serious...I wouldn't mind OTF if they hired Jordan Scruggs. Seems like a decent dude who is a good contributor, writes good articles, and has actual sources.

That sounds like it belongs on @Bevo's menu of hot OL taeks.

Hey, I’m confident in my online opinion as my brother and I have discussed line play ad nauseam with Munchak and Matthews, and Dawson (not so much Steinkuhler) back in the day. And my brother would analyze a play with Dawson and say what was done right and wrong. And if it matters, I used to be friends with Gene Chilton and Omar Saleh as well as some other old timers. Acquaintances with Dan Neil.

Nic Robertson is a take as a center. Turntine is a take at any position. Ojo is a take at tackle. That’s all I’ve liked so far.

From the top plauers liisted, I recognize one player- Dawson. I'm clearly waaaaay to you to know who the other players are.

Give me Turntine, Robertson, and Ojo and I'll be happier than that time Peter Griffin out drank his dad in Ireland.

Give me Tyler Atkinson and all of the Buford kids. All of them. Atkinson can look at Ant Hill and see where he can play, especially since Hill will be gone to the draft in 2025. An open spot for him to take advantage of. I hope the staff is selling that to him.

Imagine Atkinson lining up next to Bo Barnes. That's just filthy. Then add in Lefau and we're deadly.

Bruce Matthews is in the Hall of Fame and went to USC before the the Oilers/Titans. He played something like 19 seasons without missing a game. He later became a coach. His kids were all aggies. Mike Munchak is also in the Hall of Fame. He went to Penn State. He had a pretty long coaching career in the NFL after he retired as a player.  Dean Steinkuhler went to Nebraska, was the Outland Award winner, and was picked 2nd in the draft. He won rookie of the year, but knee injuries caught up with him. Gene Chilton played at Texas and then the Chiefs. Omar Saleh started at Texas when Texas wasn't very good. He was too small and not strong enough to have an NFL future.

Appreciate the lesson. I now remember the Matthew kids all goi g to aggy when Mike Sherman was there. Dude was an o-line whisperer. Sucks Bruce sent them there, but I get it. He didn't want the stank of inept coaches like Strong and Herman, so it makea sense. I doubt they would have turned out to be who they were had they come to Texas, and as hard as it is to admit, they chose the right path, especially with a guy who was known to coach them up.

There was that and they all went to school in Klein which is an aggie area.

So basically our staff were too much of a pussy to try.

I remember reading CTJ (I believe) saying once Bruce saw our coach he knew he wouldn't be sending his kids there. He literally laughed at how bad we were.

It was Elkins, which I wouldn’t really call an aggy area IMO.

Sorry, you are correct. I don't know where Dulles and Elkins kids go. I don't even know the demographic there - Other than it being different than the BraeBurn CC demographic and that's as close as I ever get these days.

It’s incredibly diverse. They send kids everywhere. I’m sure there are plenty of ags, but it won’t be an echo chamber like some of the Houston suburbs.

Ojo has a freakishly good frame. Nasty disposition but his movement isn't the best.  He projects cleanest to right tackle.  That's a first round caliber ball of clay to work with though.

What do y’all see as the ideal 5 or 6 man OL class? Turntine and Ojo seems pretty easy but how do you fill it out from there?

Expand

Someone asked Gerry, and his response:

LT Turntine

OT Felix Ojo

OT Sam Utu or Samuel Roseborough

IOL Nicolas Robertson

IOL Toa Katoa

It's tough because that doesn't mean I don't really like guys not in the 5, but also NIL factors in and positionally.

Speaking of OL numbers, the fact we took 11 guys between the 2022 and 2023 classes and only 1 has transferred out is both impressive and, I guess, kind of surprising.

Long gone are the days of Hayden Conner and Max Merril making up an OL class.

Now if we can get to the days of a Hayden Conner types no longer being starters.

OnTexasFootball takes a look at offensive line prospects Flood has been by to see already, and is scheduled to see this week before the dead period begins.

John Turntine III, OT, Fort Worth (Texas) North Crowley
OnTexasFootball ranking: 5-star
Note: Texas continues to feel good about where they sit in the recruitment. Any talk of Turntine not being a tackle prospect for Texas is both ridiculous and flat out incorrect.

Expand

Lol, 9.95er shots fired. Talk shit, get hit, 247 crew.

This note made me laugh. Did CTJ call and speak to the manager?
