Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: They Can't Keep Getting Away With This

I've got no idea what's going on with Twitter. I keep clicking on what looks like X/Twitter posts and it turns out they are screenshots (?) of tweets, so nothing happens.   Then I try to post a Tweet and get a message that something on X is broken.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I feel like there's no point in posting a screenshot of a tweet.

Heh. You mock me for saying you've got at least one blind spot, and then effortlessly demonstrate two of the ones I listed.

I literally showed you where the thing was, and you walked into it anyway.

You can no longer call me dumb. About anything. This was hilariously mindless. Well done!

First I don’t think you’re dumb. There are a lot of posters here who are, you’re not one. But you have some baffling takes.

Second, citing real things isn’t a blind spot when they’re real. Yes they shape my perception…because they’re real. Would you say that compared to Texas, OU has an NIL weakness? Nah, it’s a blind spot in our thinking!

You’re saying ND is Quinn Ewers, a perfect QB specimen. And I’m saying he’s got elite traits but can’t hit the deep ball consistently and has poor pocket awareness. Who has the blind spot?

Still pissed about letting the 96 game get away via the patented James brown backbreaking terrible int.

I'll take James Brown's patented INTs any day when they also came with balls of steel in that milquetoast culture Mackovic created.

June 13-15.  Looks like that'll be a huge weekend of OVs.

"Man, me and his relationship, we're like locked in," Berymon said of Baker. "To me he's like a father figure. I mean, to me, Coach Baker, I love how he coaches guys. He's just like Coach Bo (Davis). To me, they both keep it real and they stay on to you."

Add Jabari Mack to the June 13-15 OV list.

"Right now I would say Texas and Texas A&M, they're big for me," Mack told Horns247. "And I'm really starting to get to like Texas a lot."

Now Mack says he has an official visit locked in to Austin for June 13-15.

The Destrehan (La.) standout ranks as the No. 16 wide receiver and the No. 119 overall player in the country, per 247Sports. He was one of Texas' top offensive targets.

"I talked to Arch (Manning) a little bit," Mack said. "We work with the same trainer, so we was chatting about that for a minute. He just asked me how my life is going. He's a nice, standup guy. I also got to talk to Ryan Wingo. He's not from Louisiana, but he was a great freshman this year. It was good to pick his brain a little bit."

I apologize for being out of the loop. I'm assuming a 4-star++ is either a projected 5 star or on the borderline. A 4-star plus is top 100 or thereabouts. Is that about right?

I thought it meant that all recruiting sites ranked him at least that many stars, so in this case, he is a 4 star per every major ranking site.

That article is short and very sweet.

So NIL is not a problem when Georgia wins the recruitment, but when someone else does, it's evidence of "incredible flaws in the system." Got it.

It is so incredibly gratifying to be on the other end of these bidding wars, after decades of losing the under the table battles.

Taking a look at that 2016 roster, there was a surprising amount of talent, but even so not many would have cracked the two-deep last year or this year.

Starter Caliber: D’Onta Foreman (RB), Poona Ford (DT), Conor Williams (OG)

Likely in the rotation: Chris Warren (RB), Deshaun Elliot (S), Hilton Hill (CB), Andrew Beck (TE)

On the bubble: Malik Jefferson (OLB), Devin Duvernay (WR)

A lot of players didn’t put it together until Herman came in. Despite having more NFL players than a lot of other teams, the talent gaps and the coaching were so atrocious that it didn’t make any difference. We’ve come a long way from the days of Jake Oliver and Nashon Hughes taking meaningful snaps.

Malik wouldn’t have played over lefau is very sketchy.

but duvernay woulda been a borderline contributor? What in gods name are we talking about, DD had 100 catches in 2019 with Herman/ehlinger averaging over 13 per. first team all conference.

Yeah he'd be starting over DMoore and it wouldn't be close.

I'd also argue that Jefferson in a competent scheme with competent coaching proabably would have an entirely different career. But that's speculation. Duvernay starting isn't speculation, it's obvious.

Edit: I should probably add that it's obvious to everyone but Katfid, who probably can't tell the two apart, and can't tell Devin duvernay apart from Kevin Hart, or Kevin Kline.

I think Gerry has said his system is 5* ~top 30, 4*++ ~top 75, 4*+ ~top 150(?). I’m less sure about the last one so someone correct me if I’m wrong

Somewhat related - I’ve seen similar stuff to the tweet below going back for years. The cutoff ranking that really seems to matter lies somewhere around the top 100-150 recruits (for 247, that’s around their .95 rating for individual recruits and 950 for team talent). Prospects rated above that have better results, as do teams that stack those prospects.

I was just barely getting into Texas football back then. Was 10 and moved to Austin from Vermont like 2 years prior. My dad and I were excited for the game, but I had a football game (that he coached) at the same time. I remember we set it up to tape record (lolllll) and on the way from leaving the complex to go home and watch it some asshole comes up and tells us what happened. Man what a different time.

I was strictly speaking about the players as they were on that 2016 team, not the best version of themselves during their career. Obviously peak Devin Duvernay in 2019 and Lil Jordan in 2018 would have started on last year’s team. But even with better scheme and coaches, generally a freshman is still a freshman.  In 2016 Devin Duvernay only had 20 catches…but he was still averaging 20.6 yards per catch and was criminally underutilized. Fucking dumb.

I’m coming around to your view. I really underestimated / repressed the sheer incompetence of the Charlie Strong staff. Malik was not a good linebacker in 2016. But 2 years of competent development under Choate/Nansen probably would have produced a completely different player. They turned Overshown into a 3rd round pick in that same time period.
