Nic Robertson is #191 in the updated ESPN 300.

They must be listening to me. He is a plus interior guy - big, strong, good feet.

No surprise. We're going to need a recruiting wizard to backfill that spot, especially given what a volume recruiter Choice was.

Still, if you're going to lose a good recruiter to a promotion, this is exactly when you want it to happen. Gives the new guy a chance to carry his relationships over and build news ones.

Yup, roll this spring into the OV's plus NIL to help strengthen that relationship.

5:25 PM???? Who is the last great running back from Europe?

Dunno if this is a joke, but the way Imma has the screenshot process setup for surlyx, it displays the time as gmt-5. You can likely ignore those moving forward.

Eric Nahlin: The recruiting impact of Tashard Choice leaving Texas

Quote

The departure of Tashard Choice wasn’t what any Texas fan wanted to hear but that’s part of the reality of having highly coveted coaches on your staff. In Detroit, Choice will be reunited with Jahmyr Gibbs who he recruited to Georgia Tech. That’s being on easy street compared to the rigors of college football and recruiting. I was about to make a barb about having to live in Detroit, but it was actually pretty pleasant when I was there in September. So I don’t even have that to make myself feel better about it. He was a strong coach and recruiter who brought the energy daily. Basically, he’s exactly what a running back coach is supposed to be. As great as he was, running back coaches are perhaps the most fungible.

Hopefully Steve Sarkisian identifies someone with an already sound big board because Choice was about to pull an elite duo. At least you’re not Charlie Williams, who put in an RPM for Javian Osborne just yesterday. Michigan has to be licking its chops at the news but I anticipate Texas will stay right in the thick of this recruitment thanks to the overall offense. I’ll say it again, I hope the staff continues to push for KJ Edwards. I know the plan was to add a little more bulk at the position but Texas sets up well for Edwards even with Choice’s departure.

Choice’s top two out-of-state running backs Amari Latimer and Ezavier Crowell just became much more difficult to pull barring Sark hiring a coach who has already been recruiting them. Latimer being from Georgia and Crowell from Alabama add another layer of difficulty. We can say, Texas had some confidence it could pull both Osborne and Crowell, despite that being implausible on the surface. But now…

Now we wait to see who the new hire will be. Sark will certainly have a list given Choice was already looking around earlier this month.

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247) CBs Chace Calicut to Texas.

Crystal Ballin': A new prediction for a Top247 safety target with TXHSFB ties to Texas' safeties coach hire

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)

"With Orphey returning to the Lone Star State and taking over the safety room, Calicut is sure to be one of the first phone calls Orphey makes to recruits at his new post. Orphey's status as an alumnus and former Mustang football player should help a lot in this one, and he has several ties to the current North Shore staff including the defensive coordinator Garrett Cross."

Crystal Ballin': A new prediction for a Top247 safety target with TXHSFB ties to Texas' safeties coach hire

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)

On Wednesday night the Texas Longhorns closed in on the hire of Mark Orphey to replace the departing Blake Gideon in the safeties coach role.

A Houston area native, it's easy to assume Orphey will take over as the regional recruiter for the Houston area given Bo Davis and Blake Gideon have been the position coaches with the strong ties to H-Town during the Sarkisian era in Austin. More importantly than being a Houston native, Orphey also happens to be an alumnus of the TXHSFB powerhouse and prospect factory known as Galena Park North Shore.

North Shore is home to Texas Top247 safety target Chace Calicut, who was recently offered by the Longhorns in January and quickly set up his first visit for the Junior Day. Calicut named the Longhorns as his leader a few days after receiving the offer and later reaffirmed that with Horns247 minutes after his Junior Day visit.

With Orphey returning to the Lone Star State and taking over the safety room, Calicut is sure to be one of the first phone calls Orphey makes to recruits at his new post. Orphey's status as an alumnus and former Mustang football player should help a lot in this one, and he has several ties to the current North Shore staff including the defensive coordinator Garrett Cross.

Although Orphey and Texas will have to work to pickup where Blake Gideon left off and they'll have fend off some of the nation's best including Alabama, Oregon, LSU, and Michigan amongst others, the Longhorns are in a great position heading into the spring and the addition of Orphey to the staff should only bolster the Longhorns' chances for the versatile North Shore defensive back headed forward. Calicut is expected to make his college decision in the month of July or August after he's completed his official visit circuit.

That being said, I'm going ahead and entering in a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction in favor of the Texas Longhorns landing Calicut with a confidence of five.

At 6-foot-3, 190 pounds, Calicut is ranked as the No. 172 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 14 safety in the nation, and the No. 19 overall prospect in the state of Texas according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

Kamehameha School is pretty badass, actually. It prioritizes admissions of kids with some proof of Hawaiian descent as well as indigent kids and orphans. You can imagine how many of those kids playing o-line are some seriously pissed off motherfuckers. They have some serious grudges.
I think it's interesting to know that the school also owns the Royal Hawaiian Hotel, several malls on Oahu, the Four Seasons, a few condos in Waikiki, and a bunch of exclusive properties in Kahala (one of the wealthiest parts of the state). They used to own the Royal Hawaiian Shopping Center as well. Many people who have visited Oahu have personally donated to KS without ever knowingly doing so. /csb

So, the school is part of the Bishop Estate which is worth over 20 billion.

We have good friend in leadership there that my wife trained and they are now in the equivalent of my wife’s role there.

How good a friend? We took a working vacation to help them fix their parent’s house, that had been a rental for many years, in Pacific Heights when they hired and returning from the mainland. My wife is a Kailua Surfriders grad.

The school still has to deal with government oversight from the trustees scandal that was over 20 years ago.

Is Max Wright a swing tackle? How many tackles are we thinking of taking?

To quote the great @Rholl, I don't know shit about shit, but based on visits/offers/reporting so far it sure seems like they'd like Turntine + 1 other true OT + 1 swing guy. So far everyone is in agreement that this is going to be a load up year at OL. I'm sure they're selling all the tackles on the fact that we're getting two tackles drafted very high in the same year.

My brain is having a hard time adjusting to the name Max Wright NOT being associated with a sleeze 'stached meathead who routinely sexually assaulted women and went to Texas A&M. Can we stick with Maximus? No reason to guilt that kid by association.

Same. Plus Maximus is pretty badass.

By the time my wife was going to have our fourth and final, we were kind of out of names that we liked. I went for broke and threw a few out there that I thought were cool. Titan was one of them.
I did not win.

“Titan Jumping”. Better even than Boobie Feaster.

Imagine if both those guys were on the same team ...

"And the receivers, Boobie and Tit ... "

Am I misreading the room or does Turntine seem to not be as high on the board as we think he is?

You are misreading the room. He was 1b even last cycle. It was a “fasusi and turntine probably don’t end up at the same school. They staff wants turntine but a bird in the hand…”

Between Ojo saying "I am their number 1 priority" and now us trying to flip the #3 OT in the country, plus Maximus Wright and Rosenburg now in the mix, it seems like we are making a pretty muddy path for Turntine.

I don't think Wright or Rosenburg are going to make any sorts of waves in Turntine (or Ojo's or Greene's) recruitment.
