Do he and his brother still do Outer Banks? I think that's what it's called?

Josh’s brother goes by “Jonas” officially, but he was “Jay Pate” in college.

I was in a groomsman along with Jay in a wedding in the Outer Banks, so this hits close to home.

Oh nice.

That’s dope, man. I knew he had a twin because he mentioned it, but I never knew his name.

It is hard to imagine Riley being this obtuse. Does he not realize that all he is doing is setting the market for these guys who will eventually flip and stay closer to home?

Meh, USC has @ Illinois, Michigan, @ Notre Dame, @ Nebraska, and @ Oregon.  Do they even win one of those games?  They also have Michigan State (much better coach in Smith) and Iowa.  Plus UCLA rivalry game.

I’m eager to hear Gerry comment on this and say “SEC” about 20 times while doing it.

Maybe he doesn’t know that USC plays in the conference with the last two national champions and not in the SEC.

hasn't Fong been wrong already this cycle? He had Clemson ball for the OT that committed to tosu last week.

Yes but I'm wary of Oregon after they punked us for DK Moore

I'm assuming Hank South (Horns 247) mean "big" in the metaphorical sense, but JaReylan McCoy is also literally huge.

ESPN lists him as 6-7/260, and a 5* (11th overall, 2nd at his position).

If he shivvies the Ags in the process, all the better.  Could be a tough pull from Miss, but an OV is a good start.

36” arms ?!?!

WHAT?

With even normal shoulders for a 5’6” kid, his wingspan would be over 7 feet.

But he’s 6’6”, not 5’6”.

Feaster (Desoto WR), getting a run of LSU picks.

I'm pretty sure Feaster was the Desoto player crashing out in the handshake line after their loss to North Crowley this year, had to be dragged off. LSU seems like a good fit

The Stampede: Looking at notable Texas DL targets

Quote

In this edition of The Stampede, we break down some of Texas' most notable defensive line targets and where their recruitments stand.

Jaimeon Winfield, 4-star DL, Richardson (Texas) — USC commit
On March 17 of last year Texas freshman defensive lineman Justus Terry was still seven days away from flipping from Georgia to USC. All this to say — it's still very early. The Trojans now have the target on their backs to hang on to Winfield, who will still be heavily courted by top programs, Texas included. A source close to Winfield told Horns247 last week all visits are now off, except to USC. We'll see if that's still the case come June. Texas will remain after the Mississippi native.

Dylan Berymon, 4-star DL, Monroe (La.) Ouachita Parish
I recently placed a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Texas after Bo Davis left LSU for the New Orleans Saints. A source close to Berymon said the staff change in Baton Rouge boosted Texas' chances. The Longhorns have an official visit locked in with Berymon for June 13-15. LSU hired former LSU defensive lineman Kyle Williams as its next DL coach. He's from Ruston, La., which is 30 minutes from Monroe. That could ultimately play to the Tigers' favor here, but there's still a ways to go. Berymon has family ties to the Austin area as well. I still like my Crystal Ball for now.

Vodney Cleveland, 4-star DL, Birmingham (Ala.) Parker
Cleveland spent about a month and a half as an Alabama commit in the fall before reopening his recruitment in December. Texas has been actively pressing for the talented Yellowhammer State product, well before he even committed to the Crimson Tide last October. Texas has a good mix of competition including Miami, Florida, Georgia, and many others. Look for Texas to try and get Cleveland on campus for an OV in June.

Bryce Perry-Wright, 4-star DL Buford (Ga.)
Despite living in Georgia, Perry-Wright has been to Texas on a multiple occasions. He's penciled in to return to Austin for a June 13-15 official. Others OVs on the calendar include Auburn (May 16-18), Clemson (May 30-June 2), Georgia (June 6-8), and Texas A&M (June 20-22). The Aggies have actually hosted Perry-Wright more times than the Longhorns at this juncutre. Wright is close with the Texas staff and the familiarity is very much there for the Peach State native. Clemson seems like a sneaky, trendy pick at this point as I look at it. Still a long way to go.

Tomuhini Topui, 4-star DL, Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei — Oregon commit
Mater Dei is a favorite spot of the Texas staff, with multiple 2026 targets in the Monarchs' program alone. Aside from Topui, Texas is also working on landing four-star receiver Kayden Dixon-Wyatt, four-star tight end Mark Bowman, and another four-star Oregon commit in offensive tackle Kodi Greene. Topui is working on setting up a Texas visit at the moment. He told InsideTheU's Gaby Urrutia that Ohio State, USC, UCLA, Texas, and Oklahoma are the others he's speaking with outside of Oregon right now.

"Really just hearing everyone out. I'm still committed to Oregon, but it doesn't hurt just to hear what people have to offer and have to say," Topui said.

Upcoming visits include Miami on March 29, Ohio State on April 1, and back to Oregon on April 5.

Preston Carey, 4-star DL, Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy
Carey is from the Kyle Flood recruiting grounds of New York. The three-star DL earned a Texas offer over two years ago when Bo Davis was still the defensive line coach. The Longhorns are still a fan of the talented 6-foot-4.5, 300-pounder, as are many others. Carey keeps things under wraps when it comes to recruiting, but he does plan to make a June 30 commitment. There are no known scheduled visits at this point in time, but he announces all of his trips on his social media as they happen. For example, he popped up at Syracuse on Monday. He visited Florida a week ago. I would imagine Texas will get him down to the Forty Acres in some capacity this year.

"I want it to be a surprise," he said of his process," Carey told Swamp247's Blake Alderman. "That's the way I want the process to be."

JaReylan McCoy, 3-star DL, Tupelo (Miss.)
As we reported on Saturday afternoon, McCoy changed out his June 13-15 official visit from Texas A&M to Texas. On Sunday night he replaced the Aggies with the Longhorns in his top five that also includes Auburn, Florida, LSU, and Ole Miss. McCoy has also been scheduled to unofficially visit Austin on March 29. This is likely a recruitment that's going to have some wild twists and turns — most big state of Mississippi recruitments do. Texas getting on the OV calendar is significant, though. We'll see what the Longhorns can do from here.

Tiki Hola, 3-star DL, Bastrop (Texas)
You want to keep top local talent home when you can. The Longhorns have recruited Hola for a while now, offering him way back in 2023. Notre Dame has some buzz to it and is treating Hola as one of the top — if not the top — defensive line target they are after. USC is high on the Central Texas talent, too. The official visit calendar is still being worked out, and that will play a big role in how this recruitment ultimately shapes up.

Elite ATH Jalen Lott shares latest he's hearing from Texas after staff changes

Quote

Four-star athlete Jalen Lott is busy taking spring break visits, checking out Oregon, Ohio State, and heading to Georgia on Monday evening.

The Frisco (Texas) Panther Creek standout — a Longhorns legacy — is a top Texas target in the class of 2026. His former UT primary recruiter, Terry Joseph, recently left the staff for the New Orleans Saints.

"I have connected with Coach (Mark) Orphey," Lott told Horns247 "And I've also connected with Coach (Duane) Akina. I've definitely got to get down there before my official visit. I had a really good relationship with Coach Joseph. Since he left and stuff like that, it was kind of like uhh. You know, Coach Akina coming in, I already knew him. He recruited me when he was at Arizona. That relationship was already there. Meeting Coach Orphey and seeing how he interacts with the players is probably the biggest thing."

Lott says he will "definitely" visit Austin again before his official visit that's set for June 13-15. Steve Sarkisian has kept Lott up to date with all the moves.

"He actually called me as soon as the changes happened and talked about how now I have to build a relationship with Coach Orphey," Lott said. "It was really good to hear from him."

With the DB coaches talking to Lott the most, it's the secondary where he would likely project, however, Texas has talked about using him on the other side of the ball as well.

"But then talking also to Coach Sark … once I really get acclimated at DB, you know, putting in packages and letting me do return game," Lott said. "Letting me help out the offense as well. That's pretty good to hear."

Where do the Longhorns fit in to his recruitment with programs like Ohio State, Oregon, Georgia, and many others heavy in pursuit?

"I'd probably say they're right there," Lott said. "I would kind of say they've kind of dropped off a little bit since Coach Joseph left. But I feel like if I build a relationship up with Coach Orphey or if he's anything similar to Coach Joseph, they'll obviously come back up to the top schools recruiting me again."

One scheduling note: Lott says he'll now officially visit Ohio State June 6-8 instead of USC.

The 6-foot, 170-pounder is ranked the No. 6 athlete and the No. 61 overall player in the country, per 247Sports.
