Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: They Can't Keep Getting Away With This

It would be wild if Maryland ended up with 2 of the top 4 overall prospects in the country.

Those are the types of players that used to wind up at Bama for "reasons".   Now that Satan is gone and Bama's NIL pales in comparison to other programs I think we'll see more kids staying home.

Is there some scuttlebutt about the dad not liking Texas? Despite the data point about going to the Tenn junior day over UT, there’s still a lot to like here with the visit history and “at least 50/50” doesn’t read to me like the “writing is on the wall”. It reads like all three of these kids play the same position.

I assume it's just a reference to his dad having played at TCU.

And the trend matters way more than the absolute position in recruiting. If the reporting has gone from "don't worry about Fasusi, Turntine is ours" to "at least 50/50" in 6 months, it's a major negative indicator. They're setting it up to let the subscribers down softly.

I don't think there's been a starting level football player from Anderson since Corby Brooks and Jason Reeves.

Ed Small is at TCU so I guess we will find out if he made the right decision to go with the Horned Frogs rather than baseball with the Horns.  I think he's better at baseball but he is a good football player.

Texas has some built in advantages with JT. His dad is not anti Texas at all. Texas eventually is going to have to decide who is the actual priority at Left Tackle is. They took a guy who believes he is playing tackle and sit in a good spot with 3 highly ranked tackles. It’s only so long that you get to tell multiple kids you are the absolute priority at a position. The recruiting world is small and recruiting reporters make it even smaller.

That’s my read on it.  Turntine is a little wary of a three tackle class, particularly if one or two of the others are a little closer to their college play weight.

I’m still holding out hope for Utu - Utu, Robertson, and Turtine with Ojo and Roseborough would be an unlikely dream class.

IMO, which is based on what I read here and OTF, Flood will eventually have a come to Jesus meeting with Max Wright to explain to him that he is a guard in college.  If he doesn't like the message, wish him well.

Why is that? Unless I've missed something, Wright fits the RT mold that Flood has recruited here pretty well

Because it would make sense to move him to land Turntine and Ojo. I'm not sure Rosenborough is a tackle long-term. That would give us a spot for both Turntine and Ojo to fill out the T class.

I think that depends on how willingness to play RT. Not sure either is open to it.

Yeah, true. Just trying to (un)successively try and make room for all 3. I would personally pick Ojo over Turntine, even tho Gerry has a massive boner for Turntine.

One of the nation's best visiting in early April

According to a source on the West Coast, 4-star++ safety Jett Washington (Las Vegas, Nv./Bishop Gorman) is scheduled to make his first unofficial visit to Texas in early April.

The 6-foot-5, 200-pound football and basketball standout will be playing in a 7v7 tournament in Dallas April 4-6, and is scheduled to make his way to Austin to visit Texas unofficially after the conclusion of the tournament.

The nephew of NBA legend Kobe Bryant has more than 30 offers, including the Longhorns. The SEC offers are Texas, Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Texas A&M, Tennessee, Ole Miss and Missouri. Also on the offer list is Oregon, USC, Ohio State, Penn State, Notre Dame, Michigan and Colorado.

Area recruiter Johnny Nansen was by the school in January, and the Longhorns are all in on the recruitment of Washington.

Washington posted 38 tackles and 5 interceptions as a junior, after posting 37 tackles and 2 picks as a sophomore.

(Some big names visiting this weekend, including Mark Bowman (#1 TE), Kaiden Prothro (#2 TE), Ezavier Crowell, etc..)

VIP intel: Texas football hosting top targets in coming days

Hank South (Horns 247)

AUSTIN, Texas  Steve Sarkisian and the Texas staff will welcome several of its top targets in the class of 2026 and '27 starting Thursday and running through Saturday in some cases.

  • This marks the first significant visit day since the Longhorns hosted Junior Day on Jan. 25, an event Sarkisian missed due to feeling under the weather.

Texas will look to capitalize on some spring momentum on the recruiting trail, which will lead into a very busy summer official visit slate.

Here's who's expected and the latest on each visitor's recruitment.

    March 27-29 —

Jackson (Ala.) Top247 RB Ezavier Crowell

When Tashard Choice left the Longhorns' staff for the Detroit Lions, Crowell quickly cancelled his official visit set to Austin for June 6-8. New running backs coach Chad Scott came in and quickly smoothed over any concerns the Alabama native had. Scott got the OV back on the calendar, and even a two-day unofficial visit for the talented Top247 back that recently reclassified to the class of 2026. Crowell, along with in-state standout KJ Edwards, are arguably Texas' top two targets in the backfield. Alabama is considered the stiffest completion for Crowell, so any chance to get him on campus is one Texas will take between now and the summer.

Chatsworth (Calif.) Sierra Canyon Top100 EDGE Richard Wesley

Speaking of reclassifications, Wesley also recently joined the class of 2026. Texas is a legitimate threat in this recruitment, in a cycle it's carefully waded into the EDGE recruiting waters, only seriously pursuing a handful of top targets, Wesley being one of them. This will be new EDGE coach LaAllan Clark's first on-campus recruiting opportunity, and we'll see how much of an impact he can make with the West Coast standout. Wesley has over two dozen additional offers to his name. The Longhorns are firmly on the short list. USC, Georgia, Penn State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Texas A&M, Tennessee and Ole Miss are the others.

    March 28 —

Tustin (Calif.) 2027 Top247 LB Taven Epps

Somebody that's still in the class of 2027, Epps is a major linebacker target for UT among underclassmen. This will mark his third time in Austin. His mother, father, and grandmother will be joining him if that tells you how serious the interest is.

"I am looking forward to having a good time and meeting the coaching staff and learning more things about Texas," he recently told Jordan Scruggs.

UCLA and TCU are two others of note early for Epps.

    March 29 —

Santa Ana (Calif.) Mater Dei Top100 TE Mark Bowman

Two's company but three's a crowd when it comes to reclassifying. Bowman, joined the 2026 class from 2027. And to highlight how highly thought of he is, the West Coast standout is still the No. 1 tight end. Texas was and continues to be a major player in his recruitment, possibly even the leader if pressed for a prediction. The Longhorns are very active at Mater Dei High School, with two Monarch alums on the roster now in tight end Spencer Shannon and offensive tackle Brandon Baker.

"Just want to see how their tight end room is looking and how they'll use me in their offense with coach (Jeff) Banks," he recently told Horns247's Jordan Scruggs. "Talking with coach Sark, and just talking to some of the players that I know there from Mater Dei and getting some good intel and inside information on the program."

Bowman has an official visit set for Texas June 6-8, as well as Alabama (May 30-June 1), Georgia (June 13-15), USC (June 17-19), and Oregon (June 20-22).

    DeSoto Top247 WR Ethan Feaster

If three's a crowd, then what's four? Well, Feaster also recently reclassified to 2026. He's been in close contact with wide receivers coach Chris Jackson as well. Texas has several in-state options it likes aside from just Feaster, like Aledo's Kaydon Finley and of course it's lone wideout commitment in Chris Stewart. Feaster has ties to Louisiana, so some believe LSU is in the driver's seat. But Texas has been active in this one for well over a year now. If Feaster enjoys his Saturday trip to Austin, Texas could be in line to get an OV, which would certainly reflect a strong level of interest.

LSU, Miami, Texas A&M, and USC are currently the only official visits set.

"If I enjoy my visit down there, one might get bumped off," he told Jordan Scruggs.

Georgetown East View three-star LB Tieson Ejiawoko  Texas Tech commit

Ejiawoko is committed to Texas Tech, but a final decision is still looming that involves whether he'll stick with the Red Raiders or flip to Texas. He recently added this weekend's visit to his calendar, on top of his Texas official visit June 13-15. Texas Tech has the last weekend of June to have perhaps the final say. The Georgetown native also visited Austin for Junior Day in January.

"I've been going up there since my freshman year and going up there frequently helps me to build a better relationship with the coaches up there," Ejiawoko told Horns247's Jordan Scruggs earlier this month. "With them not offering me as soon as Tech did with me being on their board, I know the process, and I know the process is the process so I'm not tripping on when they offered me or whatever but I most definitely am blessed to have such an offer like that."

Tupelo (Miss.) Top247 DL Jareylan McCoy

McCoy recently de-committed from LSU. He put out a top group of schools without Texas on the list, but shortly after replaced Texas A&M with the Longhorns, and giving the June 13-15 official visit weekend to UT instead of the Aggies. The 6-foot-6, 245-pounder has some of the more impressive physical tools of anybody in the class of 2026. Auburn, LSU, Texas, Ole Miss, and Florida are the main contenders.

Bowdon (Ga.) Top247 TE Kaiden Prothro

Saturday will mark Prothro's first visit to Austin. The Longhorns are extremely high on the Peach State native, who ranks as the No. 2 tight end in the class behind the aforementioned Bowman. He also has an official visit locked in for June 20-22.

"Really just how they're building a great program over there and I feel like their coaches are doing a good job with the receivers and the tight ends and just putting them into the league and developing them," he told Jordan Scruggs earlier this year.

Other OVs scheduled include Georgia (May 30-June 1), Alabama (June 6-8), Auburn (June 10-12), Florida (June 13-15), and Texas capping things off.

Texas welcomed a 2025 tight end from the state of Georgia last cycle in Emaree Winston.

Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton 2027 TE Grant Haviland

Texas offered Haviland in February after Jeff Banks stopped in at Milton.

"(He) basically told me that he thinks I would fit the Texas system very well knowing that I can run routes in the pass game but I'm not afraid to go hit someone in the run game so he was saying that that would work really well with their system and he said he just watched my film and liked what he saw," Haviland told Jordan Scruggs.

All the schools you would expect are in play for Haviland early, like Florida, South Carolina, Georgia, Auburn, and Miami.

Other visitors expected on the Forty Acres on Saturday include:

    Lampasas 2027 WR Ty Johnson

Tyler Legacy 2027 OT Demarrion Johnson

Dripping Springs 2027 OT Hudson Whitenight

    Center 2027 OL Jacorey Smith

    Crowley 2027 OT Alexander Herrera

Southlake Carroll 2027 IOL Tristan Dare

Converse Judson 2028 OT Jai'Storm Knight

    Center 2028 OL/DL Jamarios Canton

    Nacogdoches 2028 DL Caden Thomas-Bruton

Georgetown East View 2027 DB Jalani Culpepper

Alexander Herrera congrats on jumping to #1 on Helo’s recruiting board.

2028 kid to look out for is that Jai’Storm Knight from Judson. Cool name, and he was on the varsity last year as a 6’8 320 lb freshman. He and Kaiden Scott from Roosevelt are putting northeast San Antonio back on the football map.
