Not crazy that his son can play ball, just wild to be talking about a 2029 kid.  Time flies.  That was cute though.

Texas weekend visitors list

The Texas staff are expected to host more than 25 visitors this weekend in the classes of 2026 and 2027. While there are some big names from in-state and out of state that have been on campus prior, this weekend will be a first even visit to campus for a number of top targets.

John Turntine III, OT (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley)
6-3.5, 275
Texas, Texas A&M and Tennessee are set to battle it out for the OnTexasFootball 5-star OT. The DFW star will be on campus Friday and Saturday.

First ever visits to Texas ...

Samari Matthews, CB (Cornelius, N.C./Hough)
6-0, 180
Clemson, South Carolina, Texas and Florida State are the main players.

Hayward Howard Jr., CB (New Orleans, La./Edna Karr)
6-2, 170
Miami, Florida, Florida State, Texas, Auburn and possibly LSU are the key players here entering the weekend.

Damari Simeon, DL (Richland, N.J./St. Augustine)
6-2.5, 275
The Garden State stud will visit Texas for the first time this weekend. The competition is Tennessee, Ohio State, Penn State, Auburn and Texas A&M.

Corey Wells, DL (Petal, Miss./High)
The 6-foot-5, 290-pounder will very likely set up an OV to Texas after this weekend. Mississippi State has one OV set for June 20-22.

James Johnson, DL (Miami, Fla./Northwestern)
6-2.5, 285
This will be Johnson's first visit to Texas. The Longhorns have a lot of ground to make up with Miami, Florida, Georgia in the top three. Penn State and Syracuse are also players on some level.

Dre Quinn, EDGE (Norcross, Ga./Greater Atlanta Christian)
6-3, 225
Texas is looking to bump a June official visitor list that includes Tennessee, Georgia, Notre Dame, USC and Georgia Tech.

*Note - OTF will add to the key visitors list as the week moves along.

KJ Edwards is also visiting which was mentioned in the comments below the above post.

Spoiler

Breaking down where things stand with Texas' in-state 2026 targets on the offensive side of the ball

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)

The Texas Longhorns signed the No. 1 ranked recruiting class in the 2025 cycle, and they're aiming to do it again in 2026.

A big part of Texas' success in recruiting stems from the Longhorns' ability to close on in-state talent, as 15 of the 25 signees in Texas' No. 1 2025 class happened to hail from the Lone Star State and four of the top five ranked signees happened to be Texas natives as well.

As always, the Longhorns are after several Lone Star State natives in 2026, and in this story, I'll be breaking down the recruitments of in-state Texas targets on the offensive side of the ball by listing contenders and official visit dates, discussing the current leader, and giving my best guess on where the prospect will eventually end up. This doesn't include every single offensive prospect from the state of Texas that currently holds an offer from the Longhorns, but rather Texas' true recruiting targets, as all nine of the prospects in this story have either already visited Austin earlier this year or they're scheduled to visit the Forty Acres this month.

Horns247 will have the defensive version of this story out tomorrow.

KJ Edwards, RB, Carthage

Contenders (official visits): Texas (June 6-8), Texas A&M, Baylor (June 20-22), SMU

Discussing the current leader: Texas — The Longhorns were already high on KJ Edwards under Tashard Choice, but Texas became much more centered on Edwards as the top target once Chad Scott got to town. Texas is fighting Texas A&M, Baylor, and SMU and for the East Texas standout but it's the Longhorns who are in pole position heading into April visits. Horns247 believes Edwards has the highest chances to end up at Texas amongst the various running back targets, and the Longhorns will look to build to their lead this Saturday when Edwards makes his first trip back to campus since the Junior Day in January.

My best guess of who will land him: Texas — As things currently stand, it's the Longhorns' race to lose. Edwards doesn't plan to announce a commitment until August 2, but some interesting things would have to happen for Texas to lose its footing for the state's top ranked running back.

Ethan “Boobie” Feaster, WR, DeSoto

Contenders (official visits): LSU (June 20-22), Texas A&M (June 13-15), USC (June 6-8), Miami (May 30-June 1), Texas, Alabama, Oregon

Discussing the current leader: *Fluid* — With Ethan Feaster being a prospect that's 15 years old and should still be in the 10th grade, things have been pretty fluid this spring as Feaster has made the transition from the 2027 class to the 2026 class. LSU has long been looked at as the favorite due to Feaster originally being from the Pelican state, but Alabama, Texas, and Texas A&M have all come on strong this spring and around the same time LSU's wide receiver class grew to four commits, including the nation's No. 1 WR prospect Tristen Keys. Since LSU filled up, Texas A&M appears to be slightly ahead of Alabama and Texas, but again things are fluid with a lot of movement and there's also an unofficial visit to Oregon coming up later this month that could put the Ducks in the conversation.

My best guess of who will land him: *Fluid* — I hate going with "fluid" back to back, but there's just so many moving parts here. Feaster wants to commit in late June or early July after official visits have been taken, but the recruitment is expected to last until national signing day with Feaster being a prospect that accelerated his process by a year when he reclassed. Feaster could also wait as long as February to sign, as he won't be enrolling in college until the summer of 2026 instead of January, 2026. It's hard to expect LSU to hold on to their current group of WR commits with how their class got picked off at different times in the 2025 cycle, and if it happens LSU could very well still end up being the choice. Almost every school offers several relevant reasons as to why Feaster would fit in their system while getting developed for the NFL, but more visits and overall time will be needed until Feaster has more of a concrete and smaller group of contenders.

Kaydon Finley, WR, Aledo

Contenders (official visits): Texas (June 20-22), Notre Dame (June 13-15), Texas A&M, Arizona State (Apr. 24-26), UCLA

Discussing the current leader: Notre Dame — Though I still have my 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Texas, there's currently three predictions in favor of Notre Dame and I'd say those predictions accurately reflect the current trend of the recruitment. Notre Dame is the leader coming out of a few spring visits, and the Irish check a lot of Kaydon Finley's boxes when it comes to playing for a contender while getting an elite education. The Fighting Irish can also pitch Finley's role in the offense relatively easily with a very similar player in Jaden Greathouse currently starring in that position, but Notre Dame will still have to find a way to overcome the proximity to home advantage and ties that Texas has come decision time. Arizona State and UCLA are also in the picture, but sources believe they're behind the Aggies, Longhorns, and Fighting Irish.

My best guess of who will land him: Texas — Though other programs are involved, it's Notre Dame and Texas that the recruitment is expected to come down to. The top receiver on the board for both the Irish and the Longhorns, both programs offer elite educations and chances to compete for a national championship, but eventually Finley will have to make the decision all legacy recruits get faced with: will he follow the blueprint that's been laid out for him? Or will he choose to trailblaze his own path? Texas is currently behind the Irish as stated earlier, but Horns247 believes the Longhorns will be able to retake pole position following an April unofficial visit and the June official visit. Though the Irish might take the cake in the religious part of the decision, the Longhorns hold both a proximity advantage and have a better track record of NFL wide receiver production in recent years. Finley was the very first prospect Texas offered in the entire 2026 cycle, and the Longhorns will be looking for Finley to close his official visit schedule on a high note with Texas slated to get the last OV the June 20-22 weekend.

Chris Stewart, WR, Pearland Shadow Creek — Texas commit

Contenders (official visits): Texas (June 13-15), Arizona State (June 6-8), SMU (May 2-4), Tennessee (June 20-22), Miami (May 30-June 1), Oklahoma

Discussing the current leader: Texas — Though I wouldn't say scheduling four other official visits to schools you're not currently committed to isn't a sign of being very committed, Chris Stewart is yet to back out of his Texas commitment that was given back in June of last year. So that being said, it's hard to not say Texas is the leader as of right now, which leads me into my next section.

My best guess of who will land him: Not Texas — It's worth bringing up the decommitments have happened for a variety of different reasons, but for what it's worth, Texas has a bad track record of holding onto early (non QB) commitments in the Steve Sarkisian era. Stewart has the highest chances of joining that decommitment list amongst the current group of Texas commits, and it's been a bit of a challenge to picture him in Texas' signing class since he told Horns247 about his official visit schedule. A big part of the recruitment is his brother getting recruited by Arizona State, SMU, Miami, and Oklahoma which would give the brothers the opportunity to continue playing together if Chris was to flip to one of those schools, but the Longhorns haven't shown any signs of offering both brothers so Chris will eventually be faced with a pretty tough decision: team up with his brother in college or go to Texas by himself. Chris Jackson was actually put in a similar situation when he was deciding on playing at Washington State with his brother or choosing another college. Jackson chose to go to Wazzu to play with his brother, and Horns247 expects Chris to eventually do the same as things currently stand.

Felix Ojo, OT, Mansfield Lake Ridge
Contenders (official visits): Texas (June 13-15), Ohio State (May 30-June 1), Oklahoma (June 20-22), Florida, Alabama, Michigan (June 6-8), Ole Miss (Apr. 18-20), Notre Dame

Discussing the current leader: Texas — The Longhorns have hosted Felix Ojo over half a dozen times in the last year and on his visit last weekend the Texas staff went as far as telling Ojo he's the No. 1 target on the board and Texas' "franchise" player in 2026. The lone in-state school in Ojo's top eight, the Longhorns hold a proximity advantage over every other school in the recruitment which could end up being really beneficial with Ojo being the oldest child amongst several younger siblings. Texas has a need at left tackle greater than just about every other program in the recruitment as well, the Longhorns will just have to get it over the finish line come decision time in July or August.

My best guess of who will land him: Texas — The Longhorns are on pace to land the No. 2 OT in the nation, but they'll have to outlast Ohio State and Oklahoma who are the other main contenders as things currently stand. Playing early and at the left tackle position is one of the most important factors in Ojo's recruitment, and the Longhorns will be able to offer him the ability to compete for both as a true freshman. Unless a school comes in with a ridiculously high NIL number, it's hard to see another program offsetting Texas' chances of eventually landing the five-star.

John Turntine III, OT, North Crowley

Contenders (official visits): Texas (June 20-22), Texas A&M (June 5-7), Tennessee (June 13-15), Michigan, Mizzou, SMU

Discussing the current leader: Texas A&M-Texas  — You'll get a different answer depending on who you ask, but as of late the answers you'll hear are Texas A&M or Texas, but I currently believe it's the Aggies who are slightly ahead of the Longhorns for John Turntine III after the North Crowley product's string of unofficial visit to College Station this offseason. Tennessee is a bit of a wild card and I think his official visit to Knoxville will be the first time he's ever been on campus at Tennessee. Mizzou is in the mix with Turntine's former North Crowley teammate Henry Fenuku already enrolled in Columbia, and SMU is a bit of a dark horse as a program on the rise that's only an hour away.

My best guess of who will land him: Texas — Unless Turntine puts his foot down and decides he doesn't want to be in a class with another elite offensive tackle prospect (which Horns247 does not expect to happen), it's hard not to expect Texas to eventually get the recruitment back on track to the Longhorns being the frontrunner, especially with Turntine scheduled to be in Austin later this month before taking the last official visit to Texas the June 20-22 weekend. Turntine has been to Texas more than any other school, the Longhorns offer a great education which is a big part of the recruitment, and Turntine has grown up going to Austin to see siblings that are college students in the capital city. Though A&M might be the current leader, Texas has the longest standing ties and several advantages that they'll lean on once it comes time for a decision to be made.

Max Wright, OT, Melissa — Texas commit

Contenders (official visits): Texas (June 20-22)

Discussing the current leader: Texas

My best guess of who will land him: Texas — Max Wright committed to Texas back on February 5th and hasn't looked around since. The 6-foot-6.5, 290 pounder is locked into his Texas commitment and is fired up to be joining the program come January, and Horns247 would be shocked if the Melissa product didn't end up in the class come signing day in December. "All he ever talked about was Texas so not really sure, but probably SMU" was the response I was given by a member of the Melissa staff when I was at the high school for a coaching clinic about a week or two after Wright pledged to Texas in February.

Nic Robertson, IOL, Klein — Texas commit

Contenders (official visits): Texas (June 20-22)

Discussing the current leader: Texas

My best guess of who will land him: Texas — The most recent commitment in the Texas 2026 recruiting class, Klein's Nic Robertson pledged to joining the Longhorns class back in late March, and like Wright, he's not a prospect we're worried about flipping elsewhere. Robertson is locked into playing for Kyle Flood and the Longhorns, and it would come as a complete shock if he was to flip elsewhere.

Zaden Krempin, IOL, Prosper

Contenders (official visits): Michigan (June 20-22), LSU (May 30-June 1), SMU (June 7-9), Texas (June 13-15), Clemson, Ohio State, Texas A&M

Discussing the current leader: *Fluid* — A source close to the recruitment of Zaden Krempin tells Horns247 it's been fluid as of late with Michigan, LSU, SMU, Clemson, and Ohio State all taking leads at different times throughout this spring, and while the Longhorns are still on the official visit schedule, it's hard to picture Texas winning out as things currently stand. According to the source, the other programs have done a better job in connecting and the overall relationship department and it's the main reason Texas is behind programs like Michigan, LSU, and SMU.

My best guess of who will land him: Not Texas — I'd name a school, but I think Krempin could end up at a variety of programs, just not Texas. The Longhorns like Krempin as a guard or center take, but with the Prosper product preferring tackle and a few programs pitching him to play tackle, it's hard to imagine Texas being the choice and especially with the Longhorns being behind others in the relationship department. I could legitimately see Krempin picking Michigan, LSU, Clemson, or Ohio State, and if I had to gun my head I'd choose Michigan, but again, it's pretty fluid and there's constant jockeying on the list.
