He signs good players and they play sound defense.  It's ok to admit he knows what he's doing when it comes to defense.

Funny. South Carolina has finished 4th, 12th, and 10th in SEC defense under Beamer that last 3 years.

To be a defensive master mind, you should probably be a defensive coordinator at least once in your life. Maybe that is just my ridiculous high standards.

2011–2015 Virginia Tech (AHC/RB)
2016–2017 Georgia (TE/ST)
2018–2020 Oklahoma (AHC/TE)

Who is arguing that he's a defensive mastermind? People are saying he can evaluate defensive talent and South Carolina has had some really nice players.

Looking forward to the star-fucker response and fallout from some of those current recruit ratings.

Eh, we these guys are mostly early offers with good teams recruiting them and this staff has been good at evaluating (Emaree Winston being this class' early example of the type). Obviously we have new coaches at some of these positions which muddies the waters a bit.

Only 2 four stars and some 3 stars…I’m supposed to get excited from that? Gotta be kidding me. 5 stars or gtfo. There, happy?

Yeah, to be clear, I'm certainly not worried at all

Little hyperbole on my part, but when people say he knows defense and how to evaluate defensive players it certainly implies that he is good defensive coach. I am pointing out that belief is based on nothing factual. South Carolina has had 50 players drafted since 2000. Lot of talent in that area. It is kind of what separates the SEC from a conferences like the Big 12. Even teams in the bottom half of the league produce NFL players.

To be fair, I'm still watching it happen. I'm just enjoying it now because it's happening in College Station.

I’m not necessarily disagreeing but the product on the field last year felt pretty close to the glory years of the 2000’s

Riley is a comfort take.

Okpala is undersized and the recruiting numbers for him are inflated.

Calicut doesn’t have a true position.

It’s happening as much in Norman as anywhere right now, and that’s even better.

Are we really sure about that? And if so, she could still be checking out that booty without being lesbian. It's a hell of a booty.

Who said that (Austin, TX) Shirley from “What’s Happening?” is a lesbian?

Felix Ojo is now the #1 player in Texas and #7 nationally in the composite.

Getting him would allow us to play turntine at DE until he loses enough weight to be an off the ball linebacker.

Huh ... wasn't aware he was this highly ranked (within national overall top-60, composite).

Not having watched a second of his film, I'm gonna go ahead and say that his player comps will be Joey Bosa, Trey Hendrickson, J.J. Watt, and Nick Bosa.

So he dive bombs the qb or strafes him? I’ll take it.

I'm all for violence, but I'm not super keen on seeing a Final Solution implemented on an opposing QB. Unless it's at A&M or OU, maybe.

'Texas is very high on his list': Top247 EDGE Luke Wafle's father talks fourth visit to Austin

Hank South (Horns 247)

Four-star EDGE Luke Wafle visited Texas on Monday, roughly two months out from the Princeton (N.J.) Hun School's official visit to Austin set for June 20-22.

"This was Luke's fourth time down," David Wafle, Luke's father, told Horns247. "But it was the first visit in which he got to kind of see the practice, got a great tour of McCombs School of Business, he got to sit in the pre-practice position meetings before. And then after practice we got to meet with Coach (LaAllan) Clark and go over defensive strategies. Then we had a good position meeting with Coach PK (Pete Kwiatkowksi). He had been down for a game, which you don't get to do any of that stuff pregame, and then we were down at the barbecue last year. So this was the first time we actually got to sit and go to a practice and get the real unofficial visit tour. It was great. It was everything we wanted to see, everything Luke wanted to experience. Met with Coach (Torre) Becton who Luke really, really, really likes, and thinks is one of the best. Luke is basically kind of doing the same workouts Coach Becton is doing with the team. He got a lot out of that meeting. It was great."

What prompted the Wafle's to want to make another trip down to Austin?

"Texas is very high on his list," David Wafle said. "He's done a lot of unofficials all spring and he really feels like going down and seeing a practice, and sitting in team meetings, and being around the players is kind of the most important trip he could make. That's why we're coming. Texas is huge. We love it there. Very excited to get down for the OV.

"You know, you really like a place, you want to get in there to see what a day in the life looks like to get that final look heading into June."

Wafle knew Clark from the new Texas EDGE coach's time in Columbus. The two have been in frequent communication this spring.

Texas, Ohio State and Penn State are the current official visit slate. A top schools list or more narrowed group is likely coming in the near future.

Wafle's older brother, Owen, a former Michigan defensive lineman, recently transferred to Penn State.

"What we've said to both Owen and Luke … they had a great time playing with each other in high school but you can't let that make your decision for you," David Wafle said of how Luke's older brother being in State College impacts his recruitment. "Luke's interest in Penn State is based on the program, the coaches, his position coach, and feeling like Penn State is a great university is really on the right track. It's a great problem to have all these playoff teams and preseason No. 1s on the list. Not too bad."

At 6-foot-5.5, 245 pounds, Wafle is ranked the No. 12 EDGE and the No. 109 overall player in the 2026 class, per 247Sports.

That kid is a monster. Four visits would presume serious interest on both sides. That takes time and money, and LinkedIn indicates Dad is a sales exec for a video gaming company (gambling stuff) with Duke and Vandy degrees, so I guess that’s cool.
