Jamarion Carlton's visit update.  Sounds like a monster recruit, and a priority for the staff.  Would rock if we locked him up early.

Temple 2026 five-star EDGE Jamarion Carlton recaps fourth Texas visit of the year for Miss. St. game

Jordan Scruggs (247 Sports)

Temple 2026 five-star EDGE Jamarion Carlton tripped to Texas on Saturday for the Longhorns' win over Mississippi State in the SEC opener.

It was Carlton's fourth time on campus in 2024 alone after stopping by for the Jan. 20 Junior Day, the June 1 Elite Camp, and the end of July Texas Bash Pool Party, and on this weekend's trip he was accompanied by his cousin and a friend.

"I got there at about 11:30 (AM). They put us on the shuttle and then took us down to the facility to get measured and everything, then we sat in the lobby and ate. Then once they started bringing everyone in and everything then we got to go see the players walking into the stadium and all that. So we watched them do that then went back to the lounge then they took us down on the field for the pregame and a couple of coaches started coming up and talking to us and after that we watched a little more warmups then watched the game."

The Texas pass rush stood out to Carlton when watching the game in the recruits section.

"They did great," Carlton said. "I think they had seven sacks total so just watching them get after it really shows you how fast they play and they stay low."

After the game Carlton was able to get some facetime with the Texas staff when he met with Pete Kwiatkowski and Steve Sarkisian.

"With coach PK, he was running me through my film and everything and telling me things that I need to work on like staying lower and all that. And then he was asking me about how they'd played and what they did out there and then coach Sark, we talked about the win and all of that. I talked to coach Sark about two or three weeks ago so he was just checking in on us to see if anything else was happening or anything else was new. I talked to him for a little bit, and that was really it."

The nation's No. 20 overall prospect's favorite part of his visit experience was getting to watch the Texas defense go to work.

"The atmosphere was actually pretty good and it was a very fun experience, but I'd say watching the defense get after it and just watching the game. Texas started off pretty slow but the defense still held its own the whole game."

Outside of being in Austin for October 19th's Texas-Georgia game, Carlton tells Horns247 he doesn't currently have any other visits planned.

At 6-foot-4.5, 240 pounds Carlton is ranked as the No. 20 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 2 defensive lineman in the nation, and the No. 3 overall prospect in the state of Texas according to 247Sports

He told OTF Texas is his #1 school currently.

That's a big mofo. Hope Baker can land him, but it will be a battle with LSU, even when they suck. But Baker has shown he can develop, and he's landed two bad asses so far, and he ain't done. We'll get Mathis or Imbatchu, and I'm hoping Wynn (I know, I know it's a long shot, but a man can hope).

-Turntine III, Ojo, and Carlton would be a hell of a start along the lines for Texas.

Following a 35-13 win over Mississippi State to open up conference play, the Texas Longhorns are rolling with a No. 2 AP ranking, a 1-0 conference record, and a 5-0 record, but with a bye week taking place this week, Horns247 figured we'd do something creative for this week's edition of The Stampede.

Although the 2025 class remains in focus for the Texas coaching staff and the Horns247 recruiting team, we're going to take a look ahead and take a peek at the current junior class and the prospects from the Lone Star State that will be most important for the Longhorns in 2026.

Texas football coach Steve Sarkisian and the burnt orange already hold three commitments from prospects in 2026 including Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage five-star quarterback Dia Bell, Carrollton (Ga.) five-star safety Zelus Hicks, and Pearland Shadow Creek four-star wide receiver Chris Stewart, but who could be next to join the trio in the 2026 Texas football recruiting class?

Well, in this week's edition of The Stampede, Horns247's weekly gathering of recruiting intel, Hank South and Jordan Scruggs bring you the ten most important in-state prospects for the Texas Longhorns in 2026.

(Prospects listed in no order.)

1. Forney Top247 running back Javian Osborne/Carthage Top247 running back KJ Edwards

If the 2024 season is of any indication, having depth at running back is very important. We've seen true freshman Jerrick Gibson thrust into a more prominent role in a ball carrier room that's been beat up since fall camp. Texas has a pair of targets in Javian Osborne and KJ Edwards it's been actively recruiting for over a year. Both running backs have been frequent visitors to Austin throughout their recruitments, both considering UT a top choice. Osborne has a more national profile with Michigan involved, as well as others. Texas is a popular pick early for the Top247 back, including my own Crystal Ball projection as things stand. With Edwards it appears to be more of a regional race, with schools like Baylor and Arkansas, among others, in play. On multiple occasions Edwards has said he's connected most with the Longhorns staff. Expect UT to be a major factor here come decision day. -SOUTH

2. Aledo Top247 wide receiver Kaydon Finley

12188011.png?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 (Photo: Jordan Scruggs, 247Sports)

What's better than landing an elite, in-state talent? Landing an elite, in-state talent whose dad starred at Texas. Kaydon Finley is the son of former UT tight end and Super Bowl Champion Jermichael Finley. The Aledo standout is recruited at wide receiver and is already filling up stat sheets this season, catching 28 passes for 489 yards and 8 touchdowns through five games. Notre Dame, TCU, Georgia, and many others are in play, but you have to like Texas' chances here, especially with an in-house recruiter at home. Finely will be at Texas for the Georgia game in a few weeks. The Crystal Ball already favors Texas. - SOUTH

3. North Crowley five-star offensive tackle John Turntine III

12581116.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 (Photo: Jordan Scruggs, 247Sports)

I always say there's no can't-miss targets in recruiting, especially in the Transfer Portal era, but if you're looking for one of the most – if not the most – important targets in the cycle for Texas, John Turntine III would be on the upper echelons of the list. The five-star tackle has visited Texas more than any other school, and the Longhorns have treated him like the top target at the position throughout the process. Turntine and Kyle Flood have connected well. The elite 2026 talent also has family in Austin, which likely helps Texas' chances in the long run. TCU, Oklahoma and plenty of other programs will try and sway Turntine their way, but Texas seems to have a good footing in this recruitment as things stand. - SOUTH

4. Mansfield Lake Ridge Top247 offensive tackle Felix Ojo

12334516.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 (Photo: Jordan Scruggs, 247Sports)

Another big-time talent in the class of 2026, Felix Ojo camped at Texas this past June, earning his offer in person. At 6-foot-7, 283 pounds, Ojo fits the "Big Humans" bill. Ojo has called Texas his dream school. He's well-traveled, too, having visited and/or camped at a number of SEC, Big Ten, and ACC programs this past summer. Ojo hasn't narrowed anything down yet, but the Longhorns' resurgence under Steve Sarkisian is very much playing into UT's favor in this recruitment. -SOUTH

5. Bastrop three-star defensive lineman Tiki Hola

12250476.png?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 (Photo: Jordan Scruggs, 247Sports)

Recruiting the trenches at a high level will never not be important in the SEC. And when you have a top target 30 minutes down the road, you want to make sure to keep him home. Tiki Hola has been a frequent traveler to Austin. Each trip he's spent time with a number of the UT staff, including Kenny Baker, Johnny Nansen, and Steve Sarkisian. Notre Dame, Oregon and USC are some of the other big contenders for Hola, none of which have the proximity to home playing to their favor. -SOUTH

6. Temple five-star EDGE Jamarion Carlton

12621721.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 (Photo: Jordan Scruggs, 247Sports)

The EDGE position has never been at a higher premium in college football than it is today's day and age that now has Texas in the SEC, and with a true premium pass rusher just north on I-35 in Temple, it's easy to see why Jamarion Carlton earned a spot on this list. With sources in Temple struggling to see Carlton leaving the Lone Star State for the next level, this recruitment could come down to a few in-state schools. Carlton seems higher on Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Baylor than any other in-state programs at this moment, and they all have their own ties to the Temple product as well. Regardless, sources in Temple believe Texas is currently the school best positioned with feedback from Carlton seeming to reflect a lot of the same. Although there could soon be an announcement regarding Carlton's top schools, a commitment timeline remains vague for the 254 area prospect. Nonetheless, Horns247 continues to like our two 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions entered in favor of the Longhorns winning out for the nation's No. 20 overall prospect. -SCRUGGS

7. Carthage Top247 linebacker DaQuives Beck

12456206.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 (Photo: Hank South, 247Sports)

Even with the Longhorns likely going into the transfer portal for a linebacker or two regardless of how things shake out with Madden Faraimo, Nathaniel Owusu-Boateng, or other 'backers in 2025, the burnt orange will again need linebackers in 2026, and Carthage's DaQuives Beck is the best one in Texas amongst juniors. When looking at the other two linebackers in Texas the Longhorns have offered up to this point in Port Arthur Memorial's Tank King or Katy Mayde Creek's Kosi Okpala, Beck could become even more important as I fully expect King to end up at Texas A&M whereas I expect Okpala to make his decision between Texas and Texas A&M. Although there's always a chance another prospect could emerge to unseat him from his position, Beck is LB1 in Texas in my eyes and should hold that label once the board really starts to get worked on following this season. -SCRUGGS

8. Willis Top247 cornerback Jermaine Bishop Jr.

12139198.png?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 (Photo: Jordan Scruggs, 247Sports)

Quite possibly the best pound for pound player in the entire state, Willis' Jermaine Bishop Jr. might honestly be the best defensive back in the state in 2026. An elite prospect that goes both ways at the 6A level, Bishop has been one of the most productive players in Texas over the last 2.5 seasons as 86 tackles, four tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, 10 interceptions, three pick-sixes, 444 rushing yards on 30 attempts for 8 touchdowns, and 1,416 receiving yards and 17 receiving touchdowns on 81 receptions reflect Bishop's stats through his freshman and sophomore seasons. Also a varsity member of the Wildkats' track and basketball teams, Bishop checks off the multisport boxes along with being the cousin of 1998 Heisman runner-up and Kansas State legend Michael Bishop. Up to this point Bishop has been incredibly vague with naming the standouts in his recruitment, but there's been enough interest shown in the Longhorns for Horns247 to expect Bishop to eventually officially visit. Fresh off visiting for the Mississippi State game this past weekend, Horns247 is working to figure out when Bishop could see the Forty Acres next. With Bishop being such a nuclear athlete, expect plenty of blue bloods to battle over the two-way dynamo who projects best to cornerback in college. -SCRUGGS

9. Fort Bend Marshall three-star safety Isaiah Williams

12618090.jpg?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 (Photo: Jordan Scruggs, 247Sports)

I was excited to see Fort Bend Marshall's Isaiah Williams as a junior when I saw the Buffaloes play Richmond Randle a few weeks ago, but unfortunately Williams left the game in the second quarter with an injury and didn't return. Nonetheless, I've been in contact with Williams and sources close to him since the game and nothing has changed in my thought process that Texas is the school currently in the driver's seat. At one point this looked like it could be a Red River battle between Texas and Oklahoma, but sources believe the Sooners have somewhat recently dropped from the pack with the same sources liking Texas' chances vs. the field. In what's another down year for the state at the safety position, Williams presents one of, if not the state's best at safety and is being recruited by the Longhorns like he is. Having visited four times already this year with the expectation he'll return again for the Georgia game on Oct. 19, Williams has been a frequent guest on the Forty Acres as it reflects the trend of where I believe this recruitment is headed. -SCRUGGS

10. Frisco Panther Creek Top247 athlete Jalen Lott

11953384.png?fit=bounds&crop=620:320,offset-y0.50&width=620&height=320 (Photo: Jordan Scruggs, 247Sports)

One of the rare athlete prospects that I think could truly hold his own on either side of the ball in college, Frisco Panther Creek's Jalen Lott is another prospect I'd describe as a "nuclear athlete". The son of dual sport Longhorn Legend and famed high jumper James Lott, the youngest Lott has an incredibly impressive track portfolio of his own (6-8 high jump, 24-3 long jump) that'll likely be too much for most programs to take the ball out of his hands once he gets to college. I also think the same and think he's too dynamic with the ball to not eventually end up as a full-time receiver prospect, and on the same note I'd view him as the state's best receiver prospect in 2026 if a full-time move to wideout was to be made. Hank South has already entered an early 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction in favor of the Longhorns, but Texas will have to battle USC, Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and several others to keep the Longhorn Legacy home on the Forty Acres. -SCRUGGS

Texas is 'really high' for Fort Bend Marshall 2026 safety Isaiah Williams

Jordan Scruggs (Horns 247)

Fort Bend Marshall 2026 three-star safety Isaiah Williams has been a frequent guest on the Forty Acres in recent months.

After stopping by for the Jan. 20 Junior Day, Williams has returned to Austin three times since as he made it in for the June 1 Texas Elite Camp, the week one game vs. Colorado State, and this past week's game vs. Mississippi State.

Originally scheduled to be in College Station for the highly anticipated Notre Dame-Texas A&M game, Williams made headlines at the end of August when he changed his plans and went to Austin instead to see the Texas-Colorado State game.

"Man to keep it real, it was my dawg Caleb (Chester)," Williams said of why he changed his plans. "He was in my ear, he was in my head, he was like 'man, man come to Texas, come to Texas, come to Texas man.' So I just gave in and was like you know what, 'let's go to Texas then."

It's not the first time Chester has been in Williams' ear about the Longhorns, as the Texas cornerback commit has been steadfast at work to get his high school teammate and good friend to join him in college since committing to Texas in June.

"He has a relationship with the coaching staff as well as I do. He's just been breaking down how his official visit went and breaking down their mindset there, their schemes there, the way they're trying to use him, just stuff like that. He's been filling me in on stuff like that for a while and it doesn't sound too bad, it sounds great actually."

The Houston area native's time on campus the day of the Colorado State game went as he expected with pure domination from the Texas defense during a 52-0 shutout win.

"It was good. It was what I expected to be honest, just pure domination. They didn't play down to their competition, they just did their thing, played good defense and played good offense."

The rotation of the defensive backs that day is what Williams remembers most from watching the Longhorns secondary in action that day.

"I remember how they rotated their DBs. It was a rotation of DBs, it wasn't just one set of DBs in the whole game and that's really what I picked up and liked about their defense in the secondary."

Williams has enjoyed the Longhorns undefeated start to the season and hopes the burnt orange can keep it rolling come Oct. 19.

"Man, they're just dominating right now. I don't think anybody is stopping them. I can't wait to see the Georgia game I hope I can make it."

With Blake Gideon and Texas being the second program to offer Williams way back in April of 2023, their relationship has grown a tremendous amount in almost exactly a year and a half.

"Me and coach Gideon talk almost every other day. He just checks in on me and he's always asking me how I'm doing, what's going on with me, he's just always around and is always in the loop and I always let him know what's going on with my team and he always lets me know what's going on with his squad. It's just that back and forth and it's a good relationship. It always grows every time we talk."

Although Texas was the second offer Williams ever received, Williams was actually the first safety the Longhorns offered in the entire 2026 class. The early belief made Williams feel like a true priority as just a freshman, and in the time since Williams' feeling has yet to waver.

"I'm always told I'm a top priority. And I always feel that way because of how hard they recruit me and just always getting multiple texts from different guys on the team or on the staff so that just always makes me feel like a top priority and wanted."

Speaking of priority, Williams was one of, if not the last prospect to leave campus on June 1 when Texas held their annual Elite Camp.

"I got a lot of one-on-one time with different coaches. Coach Sark, coach Gideon, coach Joseph, a lot of the people around the facility too. Not just the coaching staff, but the people that work there were telling me about the environment there and how it is just living there in Austin."

So where does Texas stand for Williams?

"They're really high. That's all I'm gonna say. They're really high."

Having released a top five earlier today that featured LSU, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Texas, Williams has a somewhat clear idea of when he's looking to trim the list of five down to just one program for his commitment.

"To be honest, probably sometime after the season. I want to go on all of my OVs, just to feel out all the different schools. I see guys committing early and stuff like that and that's cool, but I also want my family to see all the universities that I'm looking at too so my OVs, I want to go to all of them just to get a better feel for the schools."

At 6-foot, 190 pounds Williams is ranked as the No. 394 overall prospect in the nation, the No. 31 safety in the nation, and the No. 57 overall prospect in Texas according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

So Matt Leinarts kid is a junior (fuck I’m old). He left Mater Dei to join our team here in Redondo and became eligible to play last week.  Kids got a good arm , throws a pretty deep ball and is only a junior.  Not Texas related other than my daughter saying they have a new qb of some famous guy and I felt like Matt Damon in saving private ryan when he ages

Crystal Ballin': Entering in two 2026 predictions for defensive backs to join Zelus Hicks in Austin

Quote

The Texas Longhorns currently hold two top ten recruiting classes per the 247Sports Composite rankings for the 2025 and 2026 classes.

With the 2025 class holding 20 commits and the 2026 class holding just a trio of pledges, we're here to talk about a pair of juniors who eventually could also find themselves calling the Forty Acres home alongside Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) American Heritage five-star quarterback Dia Bell, Carrollton (Ga.) five-star safety Zelus Hicks, and Pearland Shadow Creek four-star wide receiver Chris Stewart.

At this point in the 2026 cycle, only nine of the 28 composite five-star prospects in 2026 have settled in on a commitment. With Texas leading the nation in 2026 with two composite five-star commitments, what other top prospects could eventually join the class?

Temple five-star EDGE Jamarion Carlton, North Crowley five-star OT John Turntine III, Frisco Panther Creek Top247 ATH Jalen Lott, Forney Top247 RB Javian Osborne, Aledo Top247 WR Kaydon Finley, San Antonio Madison Top247 WR Jordan Clay, Tyrone (Ga.) Sandy Creek three-star RB Amari Latimer, and Melissa OT Max Wright make up the eight prospects with 247Sports Crystal Balls currently predicted by the Horns247 staff to join Texas' 2026 class.

Here's two more 247Sports Crystal Ball predictions that have been entered in favor of Texas, as in this edition of Horns247's Crystal 'Ballin, I'm forecasting two more defensive backs to join Zelus Hicks on the Forty Acres.

WACO CONNALLY TOP247 CORNERBACK JAMARION VINCENT

Just like Austin Westlake and Duncanville, Waco Connally is one of the Texas program's top pipelines as the Cadets have also produced three Longhorns in the Sarkisian era when factoring in Tre Wisner spent the first three years of his high school career at Connally before moving north to DeSoto for his senior season where he won a State Championship with Johntay Cook II in 2022.

Vincent shares similarities with the other two Connally Cadets who turned into Longhorns in Jelani McDonald and Kobe Black, as all three play in the defensive backfield and held Texas in high regard very quickly upon being offered by the Longhorns. Vincent's multisport background with varsity experience in basketball and track and field is another similarity he shares with Black and McDonald. However, while Vincent likely projects best to cornerback like Black, he's more similar to McDonald than anyone else, as Vincent primarily plays quarterback for Connally yet is clearly a prospect who will play in the secondary in college.

But in a very similar way to Black, I believe the Longhorns have had the highest chances of landing Vincent since they offered him following the June 1 Texas Elite Camp. Sources in the 254 area have been consistent in the same belief going back to early summer as well, and with this one feeling similar to other recruitments Texas has won at Connally in the past, I figured why not go ahead and put in the prediction now.

Although Vincent recently trimmed his last of 16 offers down to a top eight about two weeks ago, he'll likely receive more offers following the conclusion of his junior season. Regardless, I like the Longhorns chances of eventually winning out for the Waco Connally product as I've entered in a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction in favor of Texas landing Vincent with a confidence of six.

FORT BEND MARSHALL THREE-STAR SAFETY ISAIAH WILLIAMS
The Mo City product was the very first safety prospect Blake Gideon and Co. offered in the 2026 class, as Williams landed his Texas offer and second offer total from the Longhorns back on April 26, 2023.

In fact, Williams was actually offered almost a month before Texas offered his good friend in Longhorns cornerback pledge Caleb Chester, and in the time since their relationship has grown significantly. Though the Longhorns might be able to be in their current position for Williams with or without having Chester in the fold, the Texas commit has still been a big help as he's consistently been peer recruiting Williams to Texas since pledging to the burnt orange himself on June 11.

Williams has made it to the Forty Acres four times in 2024 alone having been present at the Jan. 20 Texas Junior Day, the June 1 Elite Camp, the Colorado State game, and the Mississippi State game. Also of note, Williams ended up attending the season opener vs. Colorado State with Chester after changing his plans that were originally supposed to have him in College Station to attend the highly anticipated Texas A&M-Notre Dame game. The trend could continue as well depending on the kickoff time for the Texas-Georgia game, as Williams and Chester plan on being in attendance if the kickoff time is late enough due to Fort Bend Marshall playing at 11:00 AM the same day on Oct. 19.

The Houston area native has felt like a priority from day one of being recruited by Texas, and about a year and half later the feeling has yet to waver, he told Horns247 earlier this fall.

While a source once felt as if this was a Texas vs. Oklahoma battle, the source has liked Texas vs. the field in this one going back to the summer. Williams dropped a top five that featured LSU, Missouri, Ohio State, Oklahoma, and Texas last week and while he plans on being patient with his process and taking official visits once given the chance, I believe it's Texas who's the current leader and I expect the Longhorns to land their second Fort Bend Marshall Buffalo in consecutive recruiting classes.

That said, I'm entering a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction in favor of the Longhorns landing Williams with a confidence of six.
