They seem focused on Turntine's height in that Q&A above, but is that as much of a factor as power, athleticism and arm length are?

4. John Turntine III

When Turntine wins his reps, he wins them early. And there's not many he's not winning. The No. 1  prospect in Texas has elite measurables with 35.25-inch arms and an 83-inch wingspan. To go along with that he is 6-foot-4, 317 pounds, a weight he holds very well.

In Dallas, Turntine was nearly impossible to get past with great hand placement and strong finishing ability. He also added great balance and patience in his pass blocking.

Big-bodied offensive lineman who could potentially provide roster flexibility and multi-positional value. Tackle experience with the length to play outside, but the mass and play style of an interior mauler. Mixed testing data are not as much concern given outstanding functional athleticism in pads. Absolute bull as a puller. Displays excellent foot quickness and get-off twitch. Sophomore season revealed better pass-blocking context than most of the other linemen in the 2026 cycle. Owns strong multi-sport context with a 48-11 sophomore shot put and a 141-2 freshman discus. Sudden power manifests in pads. Still honing technique in hand placement consistency, as well as balance / body control. Ultimate positional home is TBD, but likely the type of OL prospect who could fit inside or outside. Projects to the high-major level as a potential multi-year difference maker with long-term NFL Draft upside.

There is no world where Turntine is over 300 right now

Gerry has basically been hammering that Turntine is a LT and will be a high level top 5 type of prospect.  It was interesting that Ojo said that the staff told him he was the top tackle on their board.  Maybe I misheard the interview so apologize in advance if that was wrong.  I will say, the staff has stuck to their guns with regards to the type of OL and DL they want to sign.  Turntine’s measurables are all over the place online but I think he’s somewhere around 6’3 275 lbs, which isn’t a body type this staff has recruited on the OL.  Obviously I hope we get him but curious where the staff has him pegged on their board and what position.

I don't get the guard talk for Turntine at all. In my mind, the prototypical guard is a big beefy mauler. People are thinking Turntine is a guy that's going to get in a phone booth with 340 lb SEC DTs? The book on him is that he's a tactician. That and his body type scream LT to me. You'd just like for him to be like 3 inches taller, ideally.

I don't put a lot of stock in what Ojo says the staff told him or implied to him. I'm sure that we've pointed out to him plenty that we once took two high level tackle prospects in the same class and both of those guys are about to get drafted in the 1st round.

I really can't believe we're doing this groundhog shit again like we've been doing the last 5 years under Sark. Turntine has been to Texas like 100 times; he's seen literally everything, so of course he wants to see other schools.

We're landing a top 3 class again this year as the status quo. It's fucking January for Christ sake. We don't even start landing guys until June and July, and then some in August, and then guys who hold off until a later date. We lost Kade Phillips, who ended up as a 5 star on some sites after he decommited.

Nothing is going to change under this regime. Man, y'all gotta chill. Watch some college BB and and let the staff do work. March Madness will be here before you know it. Same with our second Jr day, then spring game. We will finally get to see Arch. And then we fuck start fOSU's face at the shoe like we do to every OOC big time programs the last 3 years. We're back, bitches!!!!!

Did he lie to staff or lie to 995ers....that is the real question.

Does it really matter though? It seems like he lied to the staff. I get that he’s been a priority for us but canceling saying you have a family thing and then showing up several states away. I can’t find why it would matter who he lied to in this case. It’s odd and problematic.

Yes, I think there is a clear difference between telling the staff your intentions vs telling 995ers your intentions. If he told the staff he was going to be at Tennessee, similar to Finley telling staff he was going to ND, that is fine IMO.

The Stampede: Five visitors from Saturday's Junior Day that have the highest chances to end up at Texas

Quote

The Texas Longhorns held their annual January Junior Day recruiting event this past Saturday and it was a busy day on campus.

With dozens of prospects on campus, several left with a new offer from the Longhorns, several left with Texas official visit dates, and several left with the burnt orange as the current leader in their individual recruitments.

Horns247 was on-site and spoke with nearly every prospect in attendance once the day was over, and in this story we're breaking down the five visitors from Saturday's Junior Day that have the highest chances to end up at Texas.

Let's get into it!

Javian Osborne, RB, Forney

Michigan, Georgia, Notre Dame and plenty of others are going to make Texas work for it, but at the end of the day, the groundwork the Longhorns have laid in the Forney product's recruitment, I feel, will be too much for an other school to overcome. Osborne has been to Austin countless times, and has held an offer from the staff since prior to his sophomore season in high school. He hasn't named leaders, but he's always maintained he holds Texas in high regard. Osborne told Horns247 after Junior Day that Texas running back coach Tashard Choice is probably his closest connection he's made in the recruiting process so far. (SOUTH)

Max Wright, OT, Melissa

When Texas offered Wright on back on July 25, you could tell at that moment where this thing was headed. Fast forward to January and the Longhorns remain firmly atop the Melissa product's leaderboard. The main challenger at this point in time is SMU. It should be noted other schools like Michigan, Arkansas, Stanford, and TCU have all offered this month. There are likely plenty more offers to come for the 6-foot-8, 310-pounder as well. Wright has an official visit locked in for June 20 at Texas and plans to narrow down his recruitment in the coming weeks. I placed a Crystal Ball prediction in favor of UT back in the summer when the staff offered and I still like that pick a lot as we draw closer to February. (SOUTH)

Nic Robertson, IOL, Klein

It's felt like Texas has been in the driver's seat for the 6-foot-3, 335 pounder since the Longhorns offered Robertson at the invite only June 1 Texas Elite Camp, and in the time since it's felt like Texas has maintained their momentum with the big human from the Houston area. Robertson has visited the Forty Acres five more times since then for the July Texas Bash Pool Party, the Texas-Mississippi State game, the Texas-Georgia game, the Texas-Kentucky game, and for this past weekend's Junior Day. Kyle Flood's work in this recruitment and his production of offensive linemen into the NFL are some of the main reasons for Texas' standing, and the Longhorns were quick to set up an official visit for the June 20-22 weekend with Robertson before he left campus on Saturday. The Aggies might be the main competition in this one, but Horns247 is getting closer and closer to entering in a 247Sports Crystal Ball Prediction in favor of the Longhorns eventually winning out for the big human from the Houston area. (SCRUGGS)

Chace Calicut, S, North Shore

The North Shore product named Texas as the No. 1 school in his recruitment just days after being offered by the Longhorns this past week, and he only doubled down and reaffirmed that statement when speaking with Horns247 following the conclusion of Saturday's Junior Day. Calicut also took a trip to Oregon between those comments of Texas being No. 1, and on the upcoming schedule are more unofficial trips to Michigan and Alabama. Those four programs along with LSU and Texas A&M round out the main competition for the North Shore product at this time, though there's a lot of time left before Calicut plans to make his decision in the summer. On Saturday Texas told Calicut they want him as a safety, and that also seems to be resonating well with him as safety is his positional preference over cornerback, though there's still a few programs recruiting Calicut purely as a defensive back with the long term positional home being something that'll be figured out once Calicut gets to campus. Calicut spoke incredibly high of Texas all throughout last spring and repeatedly told me they were his dream school before Texas was aware of who he was, and now that Calicut has blown up and picked up offers from all across the country, the Longhorns are in a great spot to eventually close on the 6-foot-3, 190 pound safety prospect from one of the state's top programs in North Shore. (SCRUGGS)

Jalen Lott, ATH, Frisco Panther Creek

Listed by 247Sports as a wide receiver after Lott previously said he was wanting to play wide receiver at the next level, there's a chance Lott's positional designation could end up being changed back to athlete with Texas and several other schools now pitching a role to lot in which he'd primarily play cornerback with a few additional snaps at the receiver position and potentially return position in special teams as well. Those pitches seem to be resonating well with Lott, and he's already set up two official visits for Texas (June 13-15) and Oregon (June 20-22). Lott also has unofficials coming up where he'll see Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama, and Georgia. Although it's a bit unclear who Texas' main competition is at this current juncture, the legacy factor and priority of the DFW area native has Horns247 feeling good about Texas' chances of eventually landing the two-way standout that has a ridiculous track and field profile. Horns247's Hank South has already gone ahead and entered a 247Sports Crystal Ball prediction in favor of the Longhorns. (SCRUGGS)

I just watched Ojo's tape, now that we have a Fong bomb. Prototypical size/body for a tackle, moves great, and he's a nasty motherfucker. His feet and balance are kind of a mess, but I assume that can be cleaned up. I know I'm not splitting the atom here, but he's a take all day. I rate him a 4-star+^* on the tokamak scale (^* is equal to half a +).

Where did the narrative that Turntine is a guard originate?  Every time I've heard Gerry discuss him he is adamant about Turntine being a tackle for the Horns, specifically a LT.  I certainly don't have any sources close to the coaching staff, there are only three posters on here that I feel like have genuine sources with regard to team personnel, and none of them have said anything about JT not being a tackle.

Texas Football Recruiting Quick Hitters following big turnout for Junior Day

Horns247 Staff

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Longhorns wrapped up their Jan. 25 Junior Day on Saturday afternoon, and despite head coach Steve Sarkisian being a little under the weather and unable to interact with recruits, the visits went off without a hitch. Horns247 was on hand to speak with all the prospects we could leaving the facilities. We compiled Quick Hitters on each of the recruits we spoke with.

Note: this is not every recruit in attendance, just the ones we were able to catch up with on the way out. We'll being working to track down every one in the days and weeks to come

Felix Ojo, 4-star OT, Lake Ridge
Ojo says Texas was his dream school growing up. Ojo says Texas is telling him he's their No. 1 offensive tackle on the board. The Lake Ridge (Texas) product will officially visit Austin June 13-15. Ojo had planned to visit Ole Miss next weekend but has to move the date. Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Ole Miss are other schools of note Ojo mentioned that are in play. Have to like where the Longhorns are standing at this juncture for a player that could very well end up a five-star recruit when all is said and done. (SOUTH)

Max Wright, OT, Melissa
Wright continues to say Texas is his leader, and by my read, Texas leads by a pretty wide margin. As we wrote in the preview, it appears to be more of when and not if the Melissa (Texas) product. Will end up in this class. SMU is the Longhorns' main competition. 6-8, 310 fits the Big Human prerequisite. (SOUTH)

Jermaine Bishop, 4-star ATH, Willis
Bishop is a two-way standout that's recruited at both corner and wide receiver. Chris Jackson visited him this past week at Willis. Bishop doesn't have a preference for which position he wants to play. Bishop estimated that this is his sixth or seventh visit to Texas. Bishop says it's all about the culture with the Longhorns. He wants to see the staff interact with players and see how they coach when he comes back in the spring. Bishop says his top eight remains unchanged, Texas being a part of it. Texas A&M, USC, Florida, Oklahoma, Houston, Michigan and Penn State make up the rest of the top eight. (SOUTH)

Amari Vickerson, 2027 DL, Cy Ranch
Quote of the day: "Walking into Texas is like walking into a hug." Vickerson earned his offer at Elite Camp last summer. Loves that Kenny Baker will "coach you hard but loves you to death." Says the Longhorns sit "very high" after what he saw today. Texas A&M, Penn State and LSU are the other top schools at the moment. (SOUTH)

Jaimeon Winfield, 4-star DL, Richardson
Winfield left Texas all smiles. Told us: "How can you not be great here? I love Texas." Winfield keeps things very guarded in his recruitment, but did say Texas is one of his top schools. He had coaches from all over the country visit him this week, Texas and Steve Sarkisian included. He could arguably be Texas' top interior defensive line target at this point in time. He's originally from Mississippi. You can be the Mississippi schools, along with Alabama, Texas A&M and others will be pressing here. Texas seems to be in as good of shape as anyone at this point in time. Plus, mom likes Texas a lot, too. (SOUTH)

Maddox Maher, 2025 QB, Dripping Springs — Angelo State commit
Maher is committed to Angelo State but is heavily considering Texas late after earning a preferred walk-on offer on Saturday. He passed for 2,250 yards and 33 touchdowns and ran for 288 yards and another three scores as a senior. It sounds like he's heavily considering joining the Longhorns. That would be my prediction at this point in time. He'll decide in the next couple days after sitting down with his family. (SOUTH)

Daquives Beck, 4-star LB, Carthage
Beck says Texas is recruiting him as a Will linebacker. He's getting to know Johnny Nansen better and better as time goes on. The Carthage LB says he has one official visit set to SMU on June 6. It sounds like Texas A&M may be trending a little bit heavier right now, but Texas is in the thick of it. (SOUTH)

Mike Brown, 3-star WR, Legacy the School of Sport Sciences
Brown camped for his offer last summer. Chris Jackson visited him this week. The two went to Shake Shack together. Brown is originally from Austin. His dad, Reggie, played at Texas A&M. He's taking the process slow right now but says he could see himself playing at Texas. Texas A&M, Houston, and Baylor are others in the mix. Hard to say exactly where he may be leaning right now. (SOUTH)

KJ Edwards, 4-star RB, Carthage
Edwards says he likes that football is a religion at Texas. He hasn't named top schools, but has said Texas is in his top three in the past. Officially today UT is "one of the top" schools for him. After Junior Day he noted Texas, Texas A&M, Stanford, Georgia, Oklahoma State, Michigan, and SMU as other schools he likes. It should be noted he doesn't believe any school is ahead of the Longhorns in his recruitment. Edwards is targeting a June or July decision. (SOUTH)

James Scott, WR, Oak Ridge
Scott left without an offer, but didn't let it get him down. Scott says the staff wants to see more of him this spring. He did check in just over 6-foot-4, 214 pounds. TCU, Ole Miss, and Houston are his top schools right now. He says Texas is still one of his top schools even without offering. (SOUTH)

Jabari Mack, 4-star WR, Destrehan (La.)
Texas sounds like it's on very solid standing with Mack. He noted that Texas and Texas A&M are the two schools standing out to him right now, and he's "really starting to get to like Texas a lot." Mack, who is from the same high school as Justin Jefferson, says he'll be at LSU. He says the Jefferson/Destrehan connection isn't a big deal to him though. "Whatever program (I go to), I'm going to do me." (SOUTH)

Drew Evers, 3-star IOL, Flower Mound
Evers felt extra special after Texas visited him twice this past week when Kyle Flood and AJ Milwee stopped by Flower Mound. Evers enjoyed getting to meet the Texas offensive line room on the visit and mentioned hearing the players' opinions and vantage point on life at Texas was his favorite part of the trip. Texas is firmly in the mix along with Ohio State, LSU, and a handful of others. (SCRUGGS)

Chace Calicut, 4-star S, North Shore
Calicut told Horns247 the Longhorns were leading the race for him after offering, and upon the completion of today's visit he reaffirmed that Texas is his leader. Calicut saw Oregon yesterday and visit to Alabama and Michigan coming up, and those four along with LSU and Texas A&M are the main schools in early contention for the versatile Houston area defensive back. (SCRUGGS)

K'Adrian Redmond, 2027 DL, Lake Dallas
Redmond received an offer from the Longhorns today, and going forward Texas should be squarely in the mix for the rising 2027 DFW area d-linemen. Redmond highlighted getting a better feel for Kenny Baker as his favorite part of the trip and he's loved his visit experience each time he's been on campus whether for the June 1 Elite Camp, the July Texas Bash Pool Party, or for today's Junior Day. (SCRUGGS)

Jalen Lott, 4-star ATH, Frisco Panther Creek
Lott enjoyed getting to reconnect with Terry Joseph today and left with a Texas official visit scheduled for June 13-15. Lott also has an official visit set for Oregon June 20-22. The Longhorns are continuing to recruit Lott as the cornerback position with a handful of offensive snaps here and there also as part of the pitch. Lott highlighted the culture at Texas as something that's stood out to him each and every time he's visited the Forty Acres. Lott also has unofficial visits coming up at Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama, and Georgia. (SCRUGGS)

Zaden Krempin, 4-star IOL, Prosper
Krempin loved getting to catch up with his good friend Daniel Cruz on the visit and mentioned Kyle Flood's resume of developing linemen into draft picks as something that really stood out from today's visit to Texas. Krempin has an official visit set to see Texas June 13-15 and also has official trips locked in to see LSU, SMU, and Michigan. He also a few unofficial visits coming up to see Clemson, Michigan, SMU, and possibly Notre Dame. The Longhorns want Krempin at tackle and should be firmly in the mix for the Prosper native heading into the summer. (SCRUGGS)

Taelyn Mayo, 2027 CB, Lewisville
Texas loves the length on the 6-foot-4 corner and is pursuing the DFW area native to play boundary corner position. Mayo has an upcoming Georgia visit and he plans on hitting several camps this summer as well. Mayo comes from the Truebuzz 7on7 program and has several connections to the Texas roster through his affiliation with the program as players like Anthony Hill have also come out of the same program. Mayo highlighted how Texas always makes him feel like home when he's on campus and he loves the fact that the school feels "just down the road" from him in DFW. (SCRUGGS)

Kosi Okpala, 3-star LB, Katy Mayde Creek
Texas continues to be at the top of Okpala's list alongside Texas A&M though there is serious interest in a few out of state programs like Alabama and Penn State. Texas' pitch to Okpala is centered on maximizing his versatility and he enjoyed getting to further strengthen his relationship with Johnny Nansen today. Okpala also mentioned one of the highlights of today was getting to meet Bo Barnes. (SCRUGGS)

Kennedy Brown, 2027 4-star OT, Kingwood
Brown left Austin with an offer and said that Kyle Flood is instantly making him feel like a top priority. Throughout his conversation with Horns247, Brown said that he appreciated Flood and the Texas staff spent a considerable amount of time with him before offering and feels like that speaks to the program's dedication. (TURBOFF)

Brock King, 3-star CB, Port Arthur Memorial
King's connection to several current Longhorns, including Jaylon Guilbeau, Kade Phillips, Caleb Chester and Tyanthony Smith will benefit Texas throughout the rest of this recruitment, but King said that the treatment from Terry Joseph was the highlight of this visit. Nebraska and Michigan are both major options at this point, but King leads us to believe that Texas leads. (TURBOFF)

Zane Rowe, 2027 4-star ATH, Denton Guyer
Even before he reopened his recruitment after a nearly-nine month commitment to Oklahoma, Rowe said that he was paying close attention to Texas playing in the SEC Championship and the College Football Playoff. Rowe didn't specify whether he would prefer to play tight end or EDGE for the Longhorns, but did say that he's been in contact with both Jeff Banks and Pete Kwiatkowski as of late. (TURBOFF)

Javian Osborne, 4-star RB, Forney
Before he even left campus, Osborne was talking additional spring visits and an eventual official visit with Tashard Choice, who he said is likely his closest connection among the schools pursuing him. Choice became the first coach to Osborne's home for a visit earlier this week. Among teams that saw him at his school, Notre Dame and Georgia were the two standouts. Texas remains in high consideration for the talented back. (TURBOFF)

Toa Katoa, 3-star IOL, Trinity
Katoa was communicating with Kyle Flood about a potential official visit date during his time in Austin and said that he plans to get a date set in the coming days. In terms of his main takeaway from the trip, the Longhorns' strength and conditioning program gets Katoa's full approval. Texas A&M, SMU, Oklahoma and Oregon have all stopped by to see him as of late. (TURBOFF)

Jamarion Carlton, 4-star DL, Temple
For the better part of a year, this one has seemed like Texas' to lose, and Carlton didn't say anything to the contrary following his Junior Day visit. Carlton will travel to Baylor on Sunday and USC next weekend, but said that his relationship with the Longhorns staff remains very tight. (TURBOFF)

Yahya Gaad, EDGE, South Gibson (Tenn.)
Gaad made the long drive to Austin once again, just a couple months after he saw the Horns' win against Kentucky in November and left with a better idea of where he fits into the program's future plans. For the time being, Gaad said that he'll hold off on another visit to Texas, but spoke very highly of the team's pro-style defense and the reception he felt from staffers on Saturday. (TURBOFF)

Hank South, Jordan Scruggs, and Will Turboff contributed to this story.

See the above post and Q&A responses from some over at 247 + Ojo's comment about being "the priority."

Again, no one knows if this is just stupid 9.95er projection or if it's based on anything substantial from the Texas staff. History would say it's most likely the former. Plus, for all we know, Ojo was told that about RT, of the OL recruits in attendance, or in some other form.

Regarding Turntine, the only guy who matters regarding his recruitment doesn't give a shit about the Tennessee visit, doesn't doubt that the recruit will play in college around 305-310, and thinks Turntine is better at this stage of his recruitment than Banks was.

Where the fuck are people getting this "he's a Guard" bullshit from? In college? Who gives a shit about the NFL. Please name the $9.95ers talking about him as a Guard in college.

You're working on a heater today. Not all highly ranked guys come down to the last day of a signing period. Most don't, actually.

Plus, for all we know, Ojo was told that about RT, of the OL recruits in attendance, or in some other form.

Correct. In addition, isn’t part of recruiting making almost all the kids feel like a top priority? There are tons of ways to do that without being deceitful.

The only place I've seen that is here, and just referencing "$9.95s" having said it. Maybe someone like Anwar floated it and people just ran with it? I don't know.

Missed it, thanks.

So Trey Scott doesn't think 6'3.5" is tall enough to play tackle in college huh. How tall is the most recent winner of the Lombardi and Outland awards?

Another great take is "Turntine will probably move inside because of Max Wright".

Hank south was also parroting him, basically saying that they like ojo and wright as tackles and they really want turnstone so he might get forced inside. Especially with them both approaching 6’8.

Yeah, and that's really dumb, for many reasons. For one, we might actually want to take three OTs in this class.
