Texas Recruiting Notes 2026: They Can't Keep Getting Away With This

There's the real "must get" - transcendent talent in the state of Texas like a Colin Simmons.

Then there's the message board "must get" like an OOS 5-star that everyone else also wants that would be more of an icing on the cake situation in practice.

Jabari Mack to LSU.

The 5* WR that just committed to them a day or two ago (Keys) was at Ole Miss today.

I bet Keys will end up taking visits here, too.

Edit: LOL at Justin Wells for calling it, saying "I just feel like this kid is meant to go out of state and do his own thing."

Good call, Justin! Lulz

1) Looks like Charlie Williams (On3) put in a CB pick for Mark Bowman, to Texas.

2)  Also looks like Justin Wells put in a CB pick for Felix Ojo, to Texas.

3) WR Mike Brown committed to the Aggies.  Didn't seem like he was high on our board ...

That's great news on Bowmand and Ojo.  Starting to pick up steam.

What in the wide, wide world of sports is "Legacy the School of Sports Sciences" high school?

Bishop Sycamore, Prime Prep, but done a little more legit. Their QB is a 2026 5-star.

So, for reference, WR, Mike Brown, is .7 seconds slower in the 100m, 3 seconds slower in the 200m, and jumps 2’ shorter in the LJ than Lil’ Nigel.  Same size.  Kid is rated a 3-star and is going to A&M.  Recruiting cracks me up.

Yeah, I’m a little Surly this evening.

Sounds like Mike Brown might have this thing called "being good at football" though.

Shhhh….so is Lil’ Nigel (and he can run D1 Track too).

And my knock is on the recruiting services, not the kids.

Remember that there are schools desperately trying to push large NIL numbers early in the cycle. They’re trying to fuck up/muddy things for everyone or they’re trying to lock guys in and prevent future visits to other schools.

Meanwhile, Texas is not having NIL conversations for the most part. That comes later.

In other words, ATM, LSU, and USC are operating in fantasyland.

Are they effectively tying up their resources while setting the NIL floor for other programs to beat/match?

I bet we get him. I have no inside information, but he commited to USC too quickly, and it's almost time for decommit time for them.

You're thinking of Jaimeon Winfield from Richardson

10.4 100m, 21.6 200m, and 24’4” LJ.  These were one year ago as a SR.  Redshirting this year in football and track so we will see what he puts up next spring.

I have posted on here previously about the “recruiting experts” and what they do, say, and don’t do.  Thankfully, most coaches go deeper than the recruiting sites, as the sites only concentrate on the top tier and most rosters are predominantly not top tier.

It’s a good racket if you can get it.

I don't think there's been a starting level football player from Anderson since Corby Brooks and Jason Reeves.

For some reason I was thinking you wrote Corby Robertson but he is from Houston and is almost 80. So by comparison, it hasn’t been that long.

Not trolling, but has he been mentioned as a guy we're really after? Not like going hard but, but more like keeping him warm. I've only heard his name a few times.

Good update here from Gerry:

Football recruiting notes

OnTexasFootball delivers a few football recruiting notes to go with your morning brew.

Roseborough back on campus ...

Clearwater (Fla.) High 4-star++ OT Samuel Roseborough was back on campus a few days ago, marking his second visit of the spring with another to come. Of course, his mom now lives and works in Austin, so the 6-foot-5, 275-pounder is around campus more than most prospects.

OTF can report that Roseborough rated recent visits to Michigan and Texas A&M behind Texas. OTF believes the Horns hold a decent lead right now.

OTF continues to believe the Longhorns lead for Roseborough, 4-star+ IOL Toa Katoa (Euless, Texas/Trinity) and 4-star+ IOL Nicolas Robertson (Klein, Texas/High). And the Longhorns are at least a 50-50 shot with 5-star OT John Turntine III (Fort Worth, Texas/North Crowley), 4-star++ OT Felix Ojo (Mansfield, Texas/Lake Ridge) and 4-star+ OT/IOL Sam Utu (Orange, Calif./Lutheran).

Two defensive lineman to know ...

IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.) via East Northport, N.Y. 4-star defensive lineman Preston Carey has real interest in Texas. OTF expects the 6-foot-4, 310-pounder to make an unofficial visit in April. Depending on that visit, a June OV is likely/possible. The Texas staff likes Carey over the ball. He's seen as a more athletic version of Bill Norton.

As OTF has mentioned, 4-star+ defensive lineman Damari Simeon (Richland, N.J./St. Augustine) will visit April 12. Texas is expected to make a big push so long as Simeon is close to the listed 6-foot-3 and 270-275 pounds. Ohio State, Penn State, Tennessee, Auburn, North Carolina and Oklahoma are considered the main competition early on.

In case anyone missed this with the wild day on the Forty Acres ...

Marietta (Ga.) Kell 2026 4-star+ Brayden Rouse tells OnTexasFootball he is making an unofficial visit to Texas April 17.

Rouse, 6-3 and 210-pounds, was offered by Johnny Nansen January 29.

The Peach State rangy LB with closing speed has June OV’s scheduled to Michigan June 6-8, Georgia June 13-15 and Tennessee June 20-22.

Texas will be working to replace on of the June visit dates with the first ever visit to Texas next month.

Weird about Turntine since Gerry was pushing his chips all in that if we missed on Fasusi, Turntine would be ours. Surely it's not about Ojo, is it?

Turntine now being "at least 50-50" seems like the writing is on the wall there. It was always hard to believe that his dad would send him here for anything but the biggest offer

Is there some scuttlebutt about the dad not liking Texas? Despite the data point about going to the Tenn junior day over UT, there’s still a lot to like here with the visit history and “at least 50/50” doesn’t read to me like the “writing is on the wall”. It reads like all three of these kids play the same position.

The OTF meltdown from the members is going to be great considering how hyped and all that was said about Texas landing him up to this point.
