Quote

The unsolved case of the Servant Girl Murders in 1884-85 Austin, Texas, is investigated. Over the course of a year, six African-American servants and two white women were brutally murdered. The modus operandi was similar in each instance: the assailant attacked the victim with an ax while she slept in bed; and then he dragged her outside, where he raped and mutilated her.

This might be on the PBS app, I forgot to check there.

I really hope they don't get into whether or not The Servant Girl Annihilator is the same guy as Jack the Ripper.  That seems to distract from everything else.

Competence of Austin PD questioned.

All we need is bitching about traffic (too many damn horses and buggies!).

Austin does seem to have a problem solving high publicity murders, unless the killer makes it completely obvious like Whitman and to a lesser extent the recent bomber guy (mailing bombs from a FedEx facility?).

If you believe that it was Nathan Elgin, the Travis County Sheriff had a fairly good idea of who the Servant Girl Annihilator was based on actual forensic evidence. The show mentioned they thought it was Elgin.  More info - http://www.servantgirlmurders.com/the-servant-girl-annihilator/

and being that it’s Austin, even though they had a prime suspect, they still tried to send innocent men to jail/death. I’m not talking about the 400+ African-Americans they rounded up, but the husbands of two of the victims.
