Damn. There isn't much that can happen to move a line 5 points like that, is there? Someone has to believe that Sanders isn't playing.

Gunnar Gundy went 12-20 against UAPB, with 2 tds and a pick. He must be a man. It would be fun to find out on Saturday.

no player could move a line 5 points, c'mon

I have no fucking idea what to think about this game.

I felt pretty decent about it after we more less handled TCU fairly easily for 3 quarters on Saturday with a gimpy Spencer Sanders ... but that 4th quarter left an awful taste in my mouth so now I slant heavily toward the negative and assume we'll get our asses kicked.

I like our O to score a lot of points.  Defensively a lot seems to depend on the health/availability of Sanders (and their Center/WR) + the health/availability of Watts/Thompson (we are what we are at Edge, which is below average, but that sure seemed like a massive drop off in the back end when those guys were out and they kept converting 3rd and longs with ease).

Our defense plays up and down. We showed what our ceiling is against Bama and OU, but then we have games against Tceh and Iowa St where we don't play with any intensity at all. It's almost like the players think they can just go through the motions, make some opportunistic plays or expect the other team to make a mistake, and still win. These types of games can go either way, as we found out. The coaches need to figure out how to get them to play with an edge every game no matter who the completion is.

It's almost like this is college football and teams' performances vary greatly week to week. You'll have trouble finding any defense in CFB that plays well every week. UGA might be the only exception and that's because they always have a massive talent advantage.

They don't know anything.  Sure seems like he's injured though.  At least that would explain whatever the hell we were doing Saturday.  Maybe The Legend of Little Gundy begins and ends on Saturday.

FIFY.

2. I’d bet the under, because both teams’ “terrible” pass defenses (a) aren’t really that terrible and (b) skew conservative to try to limit quick strikes.  Duggan averaged 7.2 YPA against OSU after not averaging less than 9.2 in any of his other starts for TCU this year, and our takeaway from that is “Holy shit, did you see how bad OSU’s secondary is!”  Um, ok. There will probably be more running plays on both sides than many expect.

This is definitely B.

Oklahoma State was practically begging TCU to run the ball with how conservative they were playing defensively. It took Riley 2.5 quarters to figure this out.

Yes - Texas has also had more 4th downs attempted against them than any other team in the country (thank you Tech).  Texas .520 conversion rate allowed is 69th (nice) in the country.  The absolute egg they laid in the Tech game is certainly skewing that stat.  Against Tech, Texas allowed 6 out of 8 4th down attempts.  The rest of the year Texas is allowing only 7 of 17 for a .411 conversion rate allowed (which would put them right inside the top 40).

Texas defense on the year is 8th in Points Per Play Allowed.  So while they do give up third downs (88th) - they have been able to limit explosive plays and force teams into long methodical drives.

and in the Tech game, Tucker-Dorsey and Cook were in positions to make plays on 4th down and got trucked by Smith. Also, if the Texas offense doesn't completely disappear in the 2H of the Tech game, Texas wins and is in the Top 10.

We take care of business with a W this weekend and a lot of folks in here will have a potential opportunity to finally once again end a Longhorn regular season with a high gruntle level for the first time in what seems like eons. This is the hurdle game on the schedule that to me will provide much more definitive insight as to the direction we are going and current level where we are in that regard. Time to go in there and take one convincingly.

If it’s the goggles meathead, I’ll drive to Stillwater to put some rat poison in his Shirley Temple.

I would endorse this plan of action. I would also have a more direct and immediate plan B at my disposal to safeguard against unforeseen shortcomings with regard to plan A.

I watched their game against TCU today, and at the end of the game, Sanders throws were very bad, like something was not right with him. Maybe his throwing arm fell off, or something, during rehab after that game. Yeah, I'm gonna go with that.

He really didn't throw the ball all that well against Tech either. In fact, he is under 50% over the past 2 games. I'd still be shocked if he isn't playing Saturday.

We were also missing DMO the first half.  (Fuck the Big12)

Not trying to one up you here but a really close friend of my cousin runs one of the most successful underground sports books out of the Hartz Chicken in Giddings so I'm kind of the supreme authority here.

The next 3 games probably define our season (OSU, KSU, TCU).  If we go 2-1 in those then we just have to beat an improved but injured Kansas and Baylor in Austin to go 9-3.

We are very close to being dominant on offense - need a more experienced OL and a QB with more than 3 starts I think.

Defense is much improved but can't really be counted on to win games though Cook sort of did just that last Saturday.

The most hopeful thing I have seen this season is the way the offense ended that ISU game by physically imposing their will on the best defense in the conference.  That was a thing of beauty.

Hook'em!

That was by far the best overall performance our offensive line has had this year given the competition. Somewhat disappointing that we couldn't convert that to more points. Next year our line may be best in conference best on their trajectory. Hell, at least as far as pass blocking goes, they may already be there.

I'm just going to hope that the back end of the defense was rusty from dominating an OU team that couldn't throw a forward pass. We haven't looked that assignment unsound all year. Sure, Tech scored points, but that was all steady grind it out stuff, not blown assignments resulting in easy and quick scores. Hopefully ISU was a one off for what has been an improved defense.

I think anybody expecting Sanders not to play and play as tough as his body will let him is missing the fact that this is it for him. He has to play, he has to perform. He’s currently the 40ish rated QB in this coming up NFL draft (where usually 8-12 QBs are taken in any given year) so he is staring straight down the barrel of UDFA or with that ranking more likely the end of his football career.

Under those circumstances I expect him to give it everything he’s got and that his body will allow.

Sanders is going to play…even at 50%. But the refs are always 100% and ready to go against us….I say Horns 31 pokes 28. And that is plenty good enough for me. Just win. After the past 12 years…. 6-2, top 15 team after 8 weeks sounds spectacular to me. We are trending nicely and can win this conference

Seems like a pretty good argument against him playing if his arm is basically falling off at this point.
