Pretty good read. By good, I mean infuriating.

Tapper's father is a Doctor in Philly.  A longtime patient of his was convicted of attempted murder.  He's almost certainly innocent.   His court-appointed lawyer was a fucking idiot that didn't do shit, even though he had alibi witnesses, was physically incapable of committing the crime (because of bullet wounds he received days earlier), and had a cell phone that would have shown his location, had his lawyer checked it out, as he begged her to do.

Dude is stuck in prison, and he's got no recourse.

Rice’s remaining options are few. Barring some new development, he will have to serve at least 20 and as many as 50 more years in prison. A federal habeas petition will soon be filed, but the record in cases like this one is not grounds for optimism.

Got to be tough on crime.  Doesn't matter who did it, we just need someone to pay so we can appear serious and tough.

I automatically translate “Texas Tough” in any campaign ad to “I’m an asshole.”

Welcome to the justice system.

Rule 1: Don't be black.

Rule 2: Don't be poor.

What if you're both?

Ohhh.

Nm.
