Several friends' wives in Tanglewood were freaking out over helicopter / manhunt last night.  Was at one of my law partner's house in that neighborhood for dinner and that shit was popping off for about an hour.  Cops and K9 were all over it, looking for a black male in a black hoodie.  Not sure if they caught who they were looking for.  But some excitement for a normally boring part of town.

Stunning discoveries reveal Houston Housing Authority’s lavish spending

https://www.click2houston.com/news/local/2025/01/13/stunning-discoveries-reveal-houston-housing-authoritys-lavish-spending-habits/

“Thousands of people in Houston struggle to pay rent and keep a roof over their heads. The Houston Housing Authority’s mission is to provide housing for these families. However, ten months ago, the housing authority announced it was out of money to provide families with vouchers to help pay monthly rent. Davis wondered where the money went, considering the federal tax dollars involved.”

Im shocked, well maybe not shocked.gif

Just got the blue alert sitting in my office downtown...still not sure what the point of blue alerts is and have no idea what I'm supposed to do with this information. Am I supposed to call off work the rest of the day and go look for this guy?

Ok they got him.  He apparently didn’t run far and hid in a dumpster.  K-9 dog found him and he shot the dog.  Cops filled him with lead.  It’s over for him - but not for the families

I believe the deputy was part of a special unit that serves warrants to violent offenders. I hope there’s hazard pay for those guys. Jesus what a dangerous job.

If this piece of shit was out on a cashless bond, I gonna puke.

The news this morning is saying the suspect was found 5 hours after the shooting in a dumpster in the same parking lot where the shooting happened?  Good police work there.

It happens more than it should.  I know of two incidents in Tanglewood over the last few years where friends or parents of friends were attacked on their property upon returning home.  I live between Briargrove and Tanglewood on Potomac and last year a guy opened my gate and was hanging out in my “yard” around my patio home.  My yard is about 4 feet of rocks/artificial turf around two sides of my patio home.  Absolutely no reason for anyone to be there.  Freaked my wife out pretty good.  After she called the cops the guy finally left.

Beryl was very unique. The eye going over Katy has to be the first time.

Yeah but in 10 years, you probably won’t think it’s as rare

Also motion to not claim anything that happens in The Woodlands in the WTF is wrong with Houston thread...

Motion denied.  Every major city has its embarrassing burbs full of mouth-breathing morons.  That particular one is full of aggies. Sorry, but they're Houston's and no one else's.

I mean, I was raised in Spring, was one of the only people in my friend group not to go to aggy, and then lived in the the loop lol

PF Changs was invented for people who live in the Woodlands.

Spring was where I used to tell people I was from when I didn't know them well enough to figure if they would judge me from being from "The Woodlands" or not lol. Technically not a lie since if you put Spring as the city for my parent's address the mail still gets to them...

I would bug out of here fast if I didn’t have family reasons keeping me here.

Grew up in Cypress. Had to move to Memorial because my wife demanded a pool. But I hear ya.

People are weird. The guy across the hall from me at work went to Cy-Falls and he refuses to leave the Heights.

Another guy down the hall grew up in Wyoming and loves Cypress.

I dunno. I can’t really work anywhere else, so Houston is home.

It’s the same as saying you grew up in SETX (Beaumont area). Nothing but a majority of aggy, especially my extended family. All farmers or crop dusters. Not a one went to aggy, but every Fall Saturday- full aggy. Only visit to campus is to go to FB games. Goes year round too if aggy does something good.

We left Houston in 2020.  If I had my choice, I would live in the Heights, too, but honestly I have zero interest in moving back to Houston.  I used to live off of Memorial and while I great up in the area and loved living there, I just couldn't.  Really been very happy with moving back to Austin for a laundry list of reasons.

Now, if only I could pick up Phoenicia on Westheimer and move it to somewhere in south Austin (no no... not that lame ass Phoenicia on S. Lamar)

Edit: we were zoned to Memorial when we moved.  In a weird way, I'm glad we don't have to deal with the general MHS parent population and their entitled children.  F off if you disagree... lived in the area for decades... that's what its like.  There's also a subset of SHS that thinks they are MHS parents.

The Woodlands look cosmetically great but there is something fundamentally broken with many of the residents. When I meet someone from there I have initial suspicion about them even to a point of assuming the worst until they prove otherwise. I would only think ok of someone if their answer, to where they live, was "I'm in The Woodlands but don't count that against me."

I've also noticed that people from surrounding areas are quick to correct you when you say they're from the Woodlands. They're still in Montgomery County, so questionable, but there seems to be a visceral reaction by many to a connection to TW.

Funny.  I moved to the Woodlands about 3 years ago (because of my ex and my son, I had to).

One thing I've noticed, no one smiles here and.... there are a lot more UT folks here than I would have imagined.

There are perfectly fine people in TW but it feels like they're overwhelmed with the large number of different folks. And yes about TW not just being aggy.

Yeah MHS grads can be pretty shitty. MHS + aggy = always awful

I have quite a few MHS friends who are down to earth and never came off as douchey but they didn't come from "Piney Point F You money" so that surely made a difference.  They were also Longhorns and not aggy.   Maybe I painted with a bit of a broad brush but the shoe often fits.

Always surprises me there's not more aggys in The Woodlands - it was basically created by one (George P Mitchell)

You don't see a lot of teenage girls planning these attacks.  Didn't have that on my bingo card!

I buy it. My female cousin had to transfer from MHS to Stratford to get away from some mean girls.

Please do that instead of pipe bombs.
