I'm wondering if the make-up artists intentionally made Peter Billingsley look older, because he's only three years older than I am, and while I'm not a spring chicken, I don't look anywhere nearly as worn as he does in that trailer.

Your mom looks worn.

On Friday, we told Lil’ Brown that mom and dad are Santa and the elf lives in my sock drawer when not on the shelf. She’s being schooled on A Christmas Story thanksgiving weekend.

Had that conversation with my kid this summer when she finally figured it out. Kinda bummed. End of an era and growing up too fast kinda bullshit.

Yeah, it really hit me when my oldest drove herself to school for the time last week. I don't get to drop her off and pick her up again.  Well, unless she doesn't empty and fill the dishwasher the evening before, then I get to drive her to school.

I also told Lil' Brown I'm going to walk her in to school every single day until middle school. She can't take that away from me.

Mine had cross country practice every day at 5:45 am in the fall.  I bought her a car about three days after she turned 16.

Yeah, I was already 16 and had saved up a few hundred bucks from a summer job but couldn't yet afford even a way old piece of shit.  Mom got tired of driving me to swim practice at 5:40am in the dead of Chicago winters.  So she pitched in a couple hundred she didn't have and I bought a 1987 Ford Escort Pony Edition, four-on-the-floor and rusted out floorboards with no radio or A/C (but the heater worked great).  And she told me to remember this day because she would never drive me to school again, and one day I will drive my kids to school for the last time.  Now I know what she meant.

And I told my wife that we're watching this with her whole family when we're all together next week in Fort Worth for Thanksgiving.  She loves watching it with me and the girls each year because she knows I identify with the Old Man now.  So I explained how it's little Ralphie from 1940 but now he's our age so in his universe, it's about 1980 or so.  And he's the Old Man.  She still doesn't quite get it, neither do I honestly.  So she tells her sisters and parents on a group call, that Lobo has an idea for what to watch after Thanksgiving dinner.  And to a person, they all say, "I've never seen the original one so I don't think I'd get it, let's just watch football."

And I have to spend 6 fucking days with these people, sober.  I'd rather hang with Scott Farkus and the Bumpeses.  At least they had some personality.

Yeah its release date has been listed as 11/17 for many weeks now.

But I won't watch it until the day after Thanksgiving, we have rules in my household, and one of them is #RespectTheHolidays.  We do Halloween, and then Thanksgiving, and then Christmas.  In that order, and never the twain shall meet.

Marshawn Lynch agrees with you. Besides, next week is for watching Planes, Trains, and Automobiles.

Amen, brutha!

And you know, I thought I didn't like Marshawn Lynch, but now I'm forced to reassess my feelings on the matter.

Found it pretty "meh" until the end when the old man comes through and saves Chrsitmas morning. Got a little dusty.

So it's set in 1973, and somehow Ralphie is in his 50's.

Yeah, Ralphie should be 42. They've kept the exact year of A Christmas Story fuzzy, but the internet consensus is December 1940, Ralphie age 9.

They shouldn't have made this film or A Christmas Story 2. The original had arguably the best ending to any Christmas movie ever.

aside: you continuity asses hurt movies.  i don't give a shit what year something should actually be.  put it in the fun time period.  i want indy fighting nazis.  he can be 30 40, 50 and 60 all in 1938.  that's fine.   i don't need some uncredible backstory explaining how goose's kid could just now be in topgun school.
