Texas wins 70-50. Great game for Taylor and Shaylee

On to Ames

Mildly concerned about Jak, she hasn't improved this year the way Amina has.

Muhammad played at DeSoto. Jak played in SD. Competition level is way way different. Jak didn’t play against a lot of D1 talent in HS

Iowa State is not the same team since they lost their center for the year.

I just hope we're somewhat healthy for that game.

Wow, just an UGLY 4th quarter...

WV defeats Iowa State    73-60

Tonight is the kind of game where Jones/Gaston/Faye should feast because ISU has no one to guard the 3 headed monster have in the post.

Without Soares, they are relying on:

6'2 Nyamer Diew (20.6mpg, 6.0 ppg, 4.6 rpg)
6'3 Morgan Kane (13mpg, 4.6 ppg, 4.0 rpg)
6'4 Izzy Zingaro (7.1mpg, 3.8 ppg, 1.9 rpg)

They will play pretty small for most of the game - Joens is 6'1, Diew is 6'2 and Donarksi is 6'0.  At many points, Gaston/Jones/Faye are going to have a 6'1 or 6'2 player or a smaller guard on them and they need to own the paint.

If we shut down the 3 point shooting and protect against the backdoor cuts ISU likes to run, Texas will win.

In Austin, Joens had 21 and no one else for ISU hit double digits.  They shot 40% from the field and 26.7% from three and only attempted 11 FTs.  Texas shot 50% from the field, 25% from three and went to the line 11 times as well.  Gaston had 17 and Shaylee had 11.  Taylor Jones had 8 points in 17 min on 3-5 shooting and no fouls.

Our 3 post players had 30 points on 11-19 shooting.  I expect them to have many more shots tonight without Morris.  Let Joens get hers.

Was hoping Morris could go tonight but I guess it's still too early, the offense looks so much better with her on the floor.

If Sonya is out Shay needs to look for her offense more, she's a good shooter who defers too much. I'm also hoping for a little less Jak in this game, still trying to wash her

0 for 10 vs TCU out of my eyes.

Considering Muhammad ended up playing 9 minutes to Jak's 14, sure felt like Vic felt the opponent (0-12 in conference play) warranted playing time for Jak and some extra rest for Muhammad. Conference play is a damn grind for the freshman.

They're probably going to go zone and force Texas to hit open 3s.

Yeah, probably.  The open looks will be there.

Shaylee at 33% (40% in conference play)
Rori at 21% but we know she can hit them (3-5 against Tech)
Holle at 39% (46% in conference play)

Texas is also a rebounding beast offensively.  Texas is #1 in the conference in offensive rebounding.  Last 5 games: 16, 14, 13, 16, 12.  And that was against OSU (6'3 De Lapp), KU (6'6 Taiyanna Jackson), WV (2 different 6'3 posts), Tech (6'5 Tofeano and 6'4 Lewis) and TCU (6'3 Cravens and 6'7 Morris)

Also, this is a game where Texas should go really big with Jones and Gaston.

With no Soares they are playing Joens at the 4 which means she would have to guard either Jones or Gaston. Joens is way too small to guard either of those two. Make her work on the defensive end and get her in foul trouble.

With no Soares, Iowa State really only plays 6 players. They play their starters huge minutes.

Getting them in foul trouble would be great.

Texas can and will rotate 5 different players who are 6'2 or taller.  It's going to be a nightmare for them inside, especially if they can't hit their threes.  We will miss Morris for being able to have 5'10, 5'10 and 6'0 guards all over them (Morris, Gonzales and Holle).

We are only 8 deep right now without Morris and Moore. So not much better, basically 7 with Jak.

Remaining 5 conference games:

@ ISU - NET 15 (Quad 1)
WV - NET 66 (Quad 2)
@ OU - NET 36 (Quad 1)
Baylor - NET 24 (Quad 1)
@ KSU - NET 67 (Quad 1)

Winning out would give us a 9-5 quad 1 record and an 8-1 quad 2 record going into the Big 12 tournament. 4-1 is the actual goal here , with a win in Norman being one of the 4 wins, as 15-3 should easily win the Big 12 regular season if we sweep OU.

Kansas or Ok State could do us a huge favor with a W at home over OU.
