Mike Collier breaks through the ceiling.  All else is lost.

I'm letting politics get to me.  My solution is to avoid tv news, and I'm cutting off podcasts.  Strictly DMNl and whatever political figure Marc Maron has on.

It's just not good for me.  I'll vote, and perhaps even continue to block walk, etc. for a low level candidate I like.  But from here on in, I'm simply voting on who I think is the better leader for the future going forward.  And the only mega issue I have is the environment and climate change.  Everything else MIGHT be a tiebreaker.

This is where I am at.

My predictions are made.  Twitter account deleted.  May check this thread or Reddit occasionally tonight - no news, no nothing.  No point stressing all night over an outcome I can't do anything about.

Besides, we won't know half of the shit until Thanksgiving - California takes weeks, Nevada can accept ballots through Friday, PA/NY/MI are slow counters.  Mail in WA and OR can take days.

We don't have Election Day in America - we have Election Weeks.  And that's bullshit.

Brian Staley, a Republican candidate for a Harris County civil court judgeship, was electioneering at my polling place today. I'm pretty sure that fucker moved the 100 foot line sign about 30 feet in and then parked his truck with a huge campaign sign in the bed right next to it.

Did you report it to a campaign worker? On the Sunday before last, when I early voted in Austin, there was a guy on the sidewalk handing out flyers well within 100 ft of the entrance. A guy in line a few spots before me loudly complained, and when I exited the flyer guy had moved much further away.

For those who haven’t voted, be smart about it and check wait times with your county clerk. Here’s the link to Travis County.

https://countyclerk.traviscountytx.gov/departments/elections/current-election/#wait-times

It’s insane how there are 1hr+ lines but multiple other polling sites within a few minutes with no wait at all. There must be some law against promoting these websites. If not, it’s completely negligent that there aren’t multiple postings at every site directing people to check it out.

The media is insisting this will be close to an R lean but when the actual votes have been coming in, it's looked differently and that goes back to special elections earlier this year.  Now, we see this:

Yep, Florida has been ground zero for people escaping their state's "radical socialist agendas" since the onset of Covid. I personally know a handful. 2nd choice being Texas.

Man am I glad to be in a State that does mail in voting, and has for a pretty long time.  Automatically registered when I got my driver's license.  Easy to use website that lets me know when my ballot was sent out and when it was received.

Of course, that same State is in danger of going Maga from the top, so who knows how long I get to enjoy it.

Florida’s secretary of state is blocking federal monitors from entering polling sites.

MIAMI — Florida’s Republican secretary of state has rejected a request from the Justice Department to place federal monitors inside polling sites in three of the state’s most populous counties, a move federal officials say could erode protections for minority and disabled voters.

On Monday, the Republican secretary of state in Missouri blocked a similar request to deploy monitors inside sites in Cole County, which includes the state capital, Jefferson City, over concerns some locations did not provide adequate access under the Americans with Disabilities Act.

The Justice Department is monitoring polling sites at 64 localities in 24 states to guard against violations of federal voting rights laws on Election Day. That is an increase of six states over the 2020 election, when the department dispatched monitors to polling stations in 44 cities and counties with documented histories of violations.

No federal monitors were stationed inside polling stations in 2020: The department, then run by Trump administration appointees, decided that the risk posed by the Covid-19 pandemic endangered voters and lawyers. Instead, they positioned monitors outside.

On Tuesday, Cord Byrd, the Florida secretary of state, told reporters the state had decided not to renew “consent” agreements that would have allowed the monitors to be inside polling sites in Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties, even though they had been allowed at those sites before the pandemic.

They were welcome to monitor conditions from outside as they did in 2020, he said.

“We wanted to make it clear that those are places for election workers and for voters,” Mr. Byrd said at a news conference. He added that he was seeking to bring the practice into compliance with state law, which prohibits most outsiders from being inside polling sites.

Mr. Byrd insisted that allowing federal monitors to be outside polling stations but not inside was not a change in policy. Neither, he said, was it motivated by politics. “This is not to be confrontational in any way,” he said.

A spokeswoman for the civil rights division of the Justice Department, which oversees the deployment of attorneys at polling sites, declined to comment.

Department officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak publicly, said that monitors pose no threat to voters, and that their placement typically has not been a matter of controversy.

Local officials have in many cases accepted federal oversight as a stabilizing factor, after the chaotic 2000 elections exposed serious flaws in the state’s election system.

The department had been able to mandate the placement of observers in states with chronic voting rights violations before the Supreme Court blocked that practice in 2013.

In Missouri, Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, a Republican and the son of former U.S. Attorney General John Ashcroft, said in an interview that the department only informed Cole County officials of its intention to monitor balloting inside poll locations last Thursday.

“They sandbagged us,” he said. “They intentionally didn’t give us time to think about it or to react.”

This is such nonsense, because you're assuming that certain hours are representative of the total vote.  And they're just not.  Republicans come more in some hours and Democrats in others.  And it's not consistent from location to location.

Look--we're fucked in Florida.  But this isn't indicative of a more serious fucking than anticipated.  We're just fucked in Florida.

reps vote early in the day, Dems vote later in the day. That has been a pretty constant in most elections.

Not everywhere and not every precinct but as a general rule, early ED vote is red and gets bluer throughout the day
