The Republican Civil War - it will be because we destroyed ourselves

It’s like some of the Republicans have given up on trying to beat the Democrats and are just devouring one another.

It is starting to feel more like a Republican civil war with some Republicans who have had enough of Trump willing to take a bit of a public stand. I fear it will be way too-little-too-late, though.

Once he’s formally nominated, they’ll all fall back in line.
The Cowardly Lion would be the most courageous member of the GQP today.

I don't necessarily disagree, but I know there are conservatives looking for an off ramp from highway Trump, and I know there are Republican congressional members that are not just doing his bidding in the House.  I also have a hunch that a lot of his support in the party itself is more of opportunity vs belief.  Sure, there are Boebert's and MTG's that are true believers, but I think there are more people like Ted Cruz and Lindsey Graham who would defect from team Trump in a heartbeat as soon as it is politically advantageous to do so.  Those people would be happy to stick a shiv in him if/when the right opportunity presents itself.

I don't think anyone knows exactly how the next 6 months plays out.

That’s not true. The Senate absolutely had the opportunity in the second impeachment trial to be done with Trump and they lacked the courage. Unfortunately Trump controls the R primary voters and they know it.

Them not convicting him might end up being the difference between a R and D president in 2024.

We saved Trump! That's great!

We'll see.

Every public stand they make should be followed with the question, "But how did you vote?". It's not like they aren't supporting every shit-heel policy that their scumbag colleagues support. They just want to go back to being shitty without all the attention the MAGA crowd draws.

I can't watch pornhub in Texas, but I can watch the head of the RNC discuss anal sex on live television?

And we don't live inside a simulation?  Got it.

I'm not sure Stacey is gonna run it back.  Keisha Bottoms (former Atlanta Mayor) and Congresswoman Lucy McBath, are two of the names I've heard floated.  McBath is interesting because she represents parts of suburban Atlanta and that could translate well (she changed suburban districts due to gerrymandering).  The downside is that McBath means we would lose a good Democratic Congresswoman for an uphill battle (Dems would retain the seat).  There are other people I've heard mentioned, but nothing that indicates to me it's anything but chatter.

Make no mistake though, Duncan is a right wing lunatic, but a calculating one.  I do have to give him credit, he has been by all accounts forthcoming and publicly honest about the crimes committed by Trump and Co regarding the rico case.  However, he is certainly campaigning on this and it's already playing well and will continue to do so in suburban Atlanta.

are you from Georgia or just really tuned into Georgia politics?

I have a question for you,  does Kemp plan on running for senate?  I hope not.

I'm from Alabama, but have lived in Georgia much of my life.  Long story short, born in Birmingham, but spent almost all my youth in Atlanta.  I was a legacy at Alabama and went for school, then immediately back to Atlanta.  Basically, of my 44 years, about 7 were in Alabama, the rest here.

I do not know Kemp's mind, and I have not ever met him.  I do however, know several people in his orbit in the real estate world (including one that is a good friend of his and was a fraternity brother at UGA).  Like many Republicans, this guy just assumes that everyone around him is also a Republican and he is a braggart so he boasts of his conversations because A.  He think's he's cool (he's not) B.  He thinks it makes him sound plugged in (he isn't).  To answer your question, I know him and several people around him were pushing for him to swoop in late for POTUS once the early primary clowns were out and it started to appear that Trump was finished.  I did find this plausible, and if there had been intent, I think the court delays stopped that.

The timing on the Senate is interesting given Ossoff's term being due next, which coincides with the next Presidential.  He can run for one or the other, what's his ambition level?  He may well be the standard bearer for the anti Trump Republicans and an example of success against their stupidity.  Regrettably, I don't think he'll just fade away.  If I had to put money on it, I'd say Senate, but I wouldn't rule out a POTUS run.

I could be wrong, but isn’t Ossoff’s seat up in 2026 and isn’t that when Kemp is term limited?   Ossoff is probably easier for republicans to beat in Georgia than Warnock would be.  Although, I doubt republicans ever make the mistake of debating Ossoff again.

Kemp is term limited, and you are correct on Ossoff (just looked it up).  Ossoff is young but quite experienced at campaigning, he ran twice before for Congress seats (I have a friend that helped him host events a couple of times).  He's also not hugely unpopular, whereas Warnock is among Republicans, but his term is up during the Presidential.

I wouldn't know as a don't read those, though that wouldn't surprise me in the least.  In the event this is an inside joke, I'm not privy.

I dunno, I think somebody said something about me making a long post.  Which I can handle.  I don't enough credit for my short, pithy ones.  But I can handle that.  What I can't handle is being lumped in with the state of Georgia or Eric Trump.  Which is weird because although I go my middle name as 15% of Texas men do, my first name is eerily similar to his.  And my brother's name?  You guessed it, Don.  But we totally don't live in a computer.

Point of my story?  MTG's war on Johnson is absolutely amazing to me.  They ousted their most notorious fundraiser since Citizens United passed because a 3-toed yard ape threw a pissy fit on the House Floor.  And amazingly, the Democrats still can't figure out a flanking maneuver.  What in the fucking fuck people?

Even Donald Trump Doesn’t Know What He Created in the MAGA Swamps of Michigan

Quote

Many new Republicans also got their start in the party basically by interrupting meetings—whether election-audit hearings, school board sessions, or COVID Zooms. Now, as the ones who are supposed to be running the show for organizations that basically exist to hold meetings, that can be a problem. They also make simple mistakes like funding the infamous Mackinac Island Jim Caviezel conference as a campaign event, which limited the maximum amount that any individual donor could pay to help defray costs. (If it had been sponsored as an administrative event, it could have been financed with unlimited donations.)
