It’s just a 🖕to people that aren’t on their team.

The armed family photos serve as a really good filter.  It quickly separates people into sides of the 2A argument.  Your online reaction reveals you to be pro or anti gun, and once you have been so classified, you can be more easily targeted with information to influence your behavior, one way or the other.  I would be surprised if many of these photos aren't staged solely for this purpose.

Your reading comprehension is stunning.  Like, sub-2nd grade.  Keep working on it.

Asking what? What the motive is? I'm sorry, but it's a dumb question. Seriously dude, we've been through dozens of these at this point. He was wearing body armor. He wasn't there to kill a scorned lover and a few of his friends. He's a young male loser who chose a target rich environment where he thought a high body count would be guaranteed to make him "famous", obtained his guns of choice remarkably easily, and killed indiscriminately.

I can copy/paste his "motive" from the last time and the time before that.

Snowflakes gonna snowflake.  News on DT at 11.

It's far and away most likely that this was a right-wing groomed bigot who decided to finally "man up" and show the world what we had been missing out on.  Way to go, fatass.  You ruined dozens of lives and you're now going to the death chamber.  A ha ag bar.

Any mass shooting should have questions about how to prevent it. “Boo hoo it’s political in here”

I get that. I’m not sure how making a snarky comment is whining though.

im not the demographic you need to convince though either. Not a gun owner and I’m all for bans on these kinds of weapons, age restrictions, stronger red flag laws, addressing mental health issues, etc. I just think it’s better discussed on the CR board if you’re into arguing on the internet about those things. Personally I don’t want to discuss it on the internet here or there.

peace out.

People not being willing to discuss it is kind of the problem.

Most educated people live in a bubble, myself included, but I escaped the shit-show to get here.  Women, generally speaking, won't moderate a damn thing.  The right woman might, though.

yes but i wonder how many of those redneck women would be such enthusiastic gun-toters if they weren't immersed in a culture that fetishizes and idolizes yeehaw gun culture? i mean i would assume it helps them in attracting mates within those cultures.

Yeah. Mass shootings are a scourge on our country and we have done nothing to correct it. I'd honestly prefer my university to put out a statement that simply reads, "Who cares?" for this latest shooting in Chesapeake. Not to be dismissive, but just to be real about the situation. People, politicians, institutions say they care, but it's clear they really don't. Nothing's changed.

Who knows. Could be a good defense argument too

The DA stated it was important to pursue the case as a hate crime. Colorado has no death penalty, but the Feds do for hate crimes. I am not sure if the Feds have ever pursued death in a state where the penalty is outlawed. If the DP is on the table, his public defenders wisely will pursue any defense or mitigating circumstances.

The public defenders are sharp in Colorado.

And who knows, maybe the alleged perp fought what he thought were demons making him believe he was not CIS gendered. Repression is a hell of a bitch.

The Alleged Perp changed his name apparently because his dad was in porn (Dick Delaware). The alleged perp was upset about bullying calling him gay. Time will tell what made him snap.

Even if the shooter truly does identify as non-binary, it changes nothing. A *biological* young male who felt like an outcast in society decided to take out his personal grievances on the rest of us by easily obtaining a gun, and trying to kill as many strangers as possible.

But it's a nice distraction to take the focus off guns, so congrats to everyone rooting for that. Maybe a politician will call it an "assault rifle" and we'll all get to ridicule them. Good times.

And we've also seen a huge change in firearms, and how they are treated.  25-30 years ago, ARs and similar weapons weren't ubiquitous.  Firearms were not cultural talismen for incel losers to wield.  I had a firearm in the trunk of my car in the high school parking lot for several months of the year (hunting season).  Never even occurred to me to pull it out and shoot those who pissed me off.
Firearms law and firearms culture has changed materially, and for the worse, over the past generation.  Saying "there's nothing we can do, laws mean nothing" ignores the evidence of the past generation.  We made stuff worse.  That being true, we can also make it better.

Alright, I’ll play.

If you would of had an ar-15 in your trunk in high school instead of a bird gun, how much more likely would you have been to pull it on those people “that pissed you off”? 5x more likely? 10x?

My primary hunting rifle is an AR-15 type rifle chambered in 300 BLK that I built back when it was still a new round and a lot of folks were saying it wouldn't take off, but there is definitely something amiss with American gun culture these days. I don't think it is necessarily related to the guns themselves, but more to how we were in a state of war for twenty years up until just recently and the associated idolisation of military culture. Combine that with the expiration of the AWB of 1994 and here we are. To me, my rifle is a more practical tool for hunting than the rifles my grandparents and great grandparents used. It has uses for defending my family, yes, but I recognize that that likelihood is an outlier and don't ever expect to use it for anything other than hunting. To others, however, the same rifle is something fetishisized and it's like they almost hope to have a chance to use it to kill someone.

According to a lot of folks on here, I would be unable to resist the urge. It's unavoidable.

It's like having a cordless drill.  I can't stop screwing things with it.

Not much. Because it just wasn’t a concept, and it wasn’t how we looked at guns.
To me and my peers, and our culture at the time: guns = tools for hunting and sport shooting.
Starting in the early 90s: guns became an accessory to pose with, a symbol, and a fetish.
I even had a friend with an AR in the late 80s. We took it to the ranch, shot it, thought it was interesting…and that was that.
And I’ve told the stories of me going to gun shows, and how they changed DRAMATICALLY in that timeframe. Our collective brain is broken when it comes to guns, and the turning point was around that time.

I bet most of the ‘mass shooting’ (by whatever #death cutoff you choose) is done with pistols, rather than AR15 or similar ‘assault rifle’

You know there are ways all law abiding gun owners in this thread can keep all their guns AND we can keep them out of the hands of people like Anderson Lee Aldrich and Salvador Ramos.  Those are not mutually exclusive goals, but it’s gonna take a lot of people on both sides of the 2A argument being willing to soften their position and work together.

Which of course means it’s a fucking hopeless cause.

I’m not going anywhere near the gun ‘argument’ because it’s been sadly happening for years and we will get the same old people with the same old arguments.  What seems newer to me is this angle some have taken against LGBT communities that they are grooming and sexualizing children, and using that (false) accusation as a way to marginalize those who just recently were able to gain a little ground in the war of acceptance:

 https://news.yahoo.com/tucker-guest-expect-more-attacks-034606363.html

Tucker Carlsons (lesbian) guest:

——

“The shooting at an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs over the weekend that left five dead and more than two dozen injured was “predictable” and won’t be the last of its kind, said a guest on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show Tuesday night.

“The tragedy that happened in Colorado Springs the other night—it was expected and predictable. We all within Gays Against Groomers saw this coming from a mile away,” said Jaimee Mitchell, whose group describes itself as “a coalition of gays against the sexualization, indoctrination, and medicalization of children.”

——

Where is this pandemic of sexualization of children they speak of?  Is it all happening in that secret Democrat pizza parlor?  I have to hand it to the far right, they are masters at inventing conspiracy theories that take hold of the weak minded, frustrated, and angry.

If this guy does come out as trans, it won’t lead me to ‘outrage level plummeting’…it’ll ramp it up, because this ridiculous messaging that these people are somehow subhuman possibly caused a closeted person to lash out at what they were told are a scourge to be eliminated.

Some good responses to my question and I appreciate them.

I sell guns. I think some of y’all know that. We build AR’s and do gunsmithing. We have a diverse clientele and ya’ll can guess which way we lean politically.

However, our entire staff is hyper aware to things that seem off. I just denied a sale last week, reported to ATF, and they were in our shop next day getting documentation and video.

The reason we can’t have sensible discussions on gun control really is because there is no negotiation or compromise- just hostage taking.

We’re for things that make sense. Now for the things that don’t make sense, get rid of them.

(Silencers - I’ll start with you).

Fair enough, but it feels newer to be so publicly adopted and espoused by an entire wing of politics.  Talked about in living rooms, sure, but not necessarily agreed with by public figures on national tv.  Though I’m probably naive/sheltered from it.

Do you really feel that there is no compromise to come from the left on gun control? You don't think many of reforms that are supported by a majority of the country's citizens are being held up by "which way we lean politically?"

Do tell though: who propagates anti-LTBTQ messaging to a wider audience in the United States?

There have been numerous proposals in the many threads we have on this site posted by people active in the "gun culture" about the issue. Almost all of them have been been shouted down as not restrictive enough by the other side. All the while saying that the gun lobby refuses to compromise while stupidly ignoring the fact that most of the stuff they are asking for were in fact compromises that were made in order to get the laws they want passed in the first place.

How's that?

How about making getting a gun as difficult to get as it if for a 16 year old to legally drive on a public road?

In-person gun competency evaluation, safety exam, proof of safe storage, registration, more stringent tests for different 'levels' of firearms

Would barely be a speed bump for responsible gun owners with a respect for firearms.

But it would absolutely weed out the 18 year old who gets teased for a speech impediment, and the mush that is an 18 year-old's brain tells him to go out in a blaze of glory.

It worked pretty well to suppress black people during the Civil Rights movement, so you've got that going for you.

Don't be daft. I never once claimed that he was an evangelical zealot or whatever else. I simply said that people have a right to say fuck those groups pretty much any time the LGBTQ community is targeted, whether they were directly involved or not. They do their best to normalize and perpetuate anti-gay messaging. Fuck those groups ad infinitum.

Yes, it's the gun lobby that's reasonable and not filing suits seeking to enjoin cities and states from passing even the most modest gun and ammo regulations. What in the world do "proposals" on internet message boards have to do with actual policy?

That's just simply not true. Sure, there are the extremes in the anti-gun lobby that want to ban everything "built for war" but they aren't the ones pushing policy.

Feinstein and Sheila Jackson Lee, who’ve pushed for extreme reform many, many times, disagree with this statement.
