Man, I wish we had a sad +1 icon for the one directly above.

Also, that silly donkey should be Ransom Stoddard facing LIberty Valance. It's tragic that the rule of law or even decency is doomed. That silly donkey could be holding one of my posts or a political cartoon. I don't love the Dems, but they're not to blame. Citizens should be rising up, and we're mostly not.

Sorry to interrupt the cartoons. Thanks as always, Brakeman.

Point well made.  Not a big user, mostly order directly.  But do make plenty of lazy ass purchases.  That is going to take discipline.

This assumes a consequence for Trump as though bad policy will hurt him. His first term was full of bad policies and he gets called back to office. He'll say things the idiots want to hear and place blame elsewhere. This is a good cartoonist, but this is non-Trumpist conventional wisdom that's horribly outdated. Maybe have him trying to shoot himself in the foot but Uncle Sam's foot instead.

Where's my pen and ink?

The thing about gitmo … man …. That shit way back when started it, I’m not changing the narrative Trump is an authoritarian nightmare but we never should have detained humans without due process, ever.

And we incarcerate them in a way that could be called long-form torture. The NYT covering objections to a ruling allowing some of the remaining captives to get together for a prayer group shows just how callous the Americans can be.

These men were put in hurricane fence cubicles, if I recall correctly, with a bed on the floor, maybe the Koran, and nothing else. Some, of course were tortured.

Depriving someone of liberty or even access to persons they care about is punishment enough. Your life is in stasis as the world moves on without you. That's punishment. Adding cruelty is unecessary.

Putting someone there on the word of some Iraqi or Afghan local without any kind of due process is about as afoul as you can be of what were once alleged to be American values.

And part of the process that led us to where we are today.
