Ummm…

He only had 1 goal this year as a U.S. international player.

He had 19 goals as an English international.

…but that doesn’t sound as good when marketing to corporate sponsors looking to sign up a soccer star in the build up to 2026.

Leeds appears to be going down barring a miracle. McKennie is almost certainly gone. I don't see any way TA and his agent don't demand a sale but I guess it's possible he hoofs it in the EFL. I think Aaronson probably stays.

Did McKennie meet the requirements for the sale? Everything I read shows he’s owned by Juve still.

As far as Adams and Aaronson - it really depends on the style Leeds wants to play. I think that was the bigger issue once they got rid of Marsch.

Yeah I don't know the details - looks like there was an option for them to buy coming up but I'm assuming it was contingent on staying up. They can't afford his wages in EFL.

I want Tim Ream to tutor Miles Robinson at the National camps this summer. Make Ream a special assistant this summer while he’s mending his broken arm. Robinson turned down a renewal and should be moving to Europe.

So who the fuck are we hiring? Does Marsch not want the NT job? Are we going to give it to Anthony Hudson? Because I still have time to go buy a toaster and draw a bath today.

A lot of people want us to look at Pellegrino Matarazzo.

This is the exact opposite of Freddy Adu.

The manager did NOT want Freddy Adu. In this scenario, the manager absolutely DOES want these players.

I would rather have perennial MLS loser, Anthony Hudson over Jesse Marsch

They gave Aaronson a relegation clause after spending $30+ to get him only to sack the manager who bought him and still got relegated.

Give Hudson the full year and then, if he shows that he can’t inspire his players and proves to be inflexible, then find someone else.

Argentina did pretty well with an assistant coach who took over the reins and created a system around the players that he had. (And he didn’t always have Messi in the preceding 2 1/2 years, but they hadn’t lost in forever until they lost to Saudi Arabia 2-1 on a Saudi xG of 0.15.

Find a manager who understands that “glue guys” don’t have to be on the roster (Exhibit A: Kün Agüero), who picks a good roster, and then creates a system that caters to the talent and I’m fine with that guy. There are probably over a dozen managers who fit that bill, I just want one of them. Jesse Marsch has shown not to be a duty who checks off those boxes.

from Athletic:

Callaghan joined U.S. Soccer in 2019 from the Philadelphia Union and initially served as the strategy analyst before being promoted to assistant coach. He was part of the staff that won the 2021 Nations League and Gold Cup and reached the Round of 16 in the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

as far as i can tell he has *NEVER* been a head coach and doesn't even have a wikipedia page. no announcement of who his staff is going to be for either Nations League or Gold Cup.

NEVER BEEN A HEAD COACH!!!!!!!!!

WaPo says in their article Hudson "is leaving the program to accept an offer from a club abroad"

Seems pretty obvious that he got the job because he was the next man up already on staff. I'm confused by the confusion here. Who is the staff going to be? Probably the exact same people who were already there with this guy moving up one spot?

Yeah, if the original plan was to hire your full-time guy before August, and that's still the plan, I don't really give a shit who holds the gig for the next 1-2 months. Of course, I have zero confidence in that hire, and whoever it is, they will have big shoes to fill.

As a fan of a true clownshow, I am insulted you even think this USMNT situation is that close to one.

Hudson took a job elsewhere, he was clearly told he wasn't in the running for the gig, he did what was best for him.

Frankly, given the timetable they have outlined, I see no cause for alarm. From what I can tell a lot of federations take a while to hire their coaches.

he isn't the next man up, he's the last man standing literally.

he's the least qualified USMNT coach since John Kowalski in 1991. actually, i think he's the least qualified USMNT coach since the mid 70s.

i don't blame Hudson at ALL for leaving. no issue there.

my issue is with the USSF blowing the opportunity to make positive news early in the cycle in bothof the opportunities ahead of them and not setting themselves up for success.

if this guy does great, and they don't hire him then it's a problem for them. if he does terrible, they look terrible. it's a no-win situation to have a guy who has *NEVER* been a senior team head coach at any level and is suddenly thrown into a situation where he is leading the ship in the Nations League and Gold Cup. it's a waste in every way.

edit: now it's coming out that his contract was set to end 8/1 and he wasn't going to be considered for the full time job so why would he stay if he had literally any other option. good for him. hope he is going to get paid.
