Oh, man. Thanks for the reminder! This is one of my favorite races of the year. Been so busy with the weather, broken oak trees, and some other shit that it slipped my mind.

Drive through, and it only took them about a lap to decide that. F1, are you paying attention?

Well-deserved drive through, for sure.

Not sure there was much of that worth watching with no cautions until 8 and a half hours in (still somehow didn't set the GT3 lap record for this event) and the BMWs completely dominant.  Only 10 cars on track after the cup 911s got done with their sprint in the first hour.

Next race in IGTC is 24 Hours of Spa, which is usually fantastic.  GT World Challenge America kicks off at Sonoma March 30-April 2.

Singer Vehicle Design is one of my favorite Instagram follows, and should be one of yours too, if you love restomodded air cooled Porsches. Anyway, they did the livery for Hertz/JOTA's Porsche 963 WEC Hypercar.

MSR Has “Taken Responsibility” for Rolex 24 Tire Manipulation

Meyer Shank Racing has “taken responsibility” for the penalties imposed on the team by IMSA after it was found the No. 60 Acura ARX-06 crew manipulated tire pressure data in the Rolex 24 at Daytona.

The Ohio-based squad won the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season opener but was penalized on Wednesday by the sanctioning body after Honda Performance Development discovered the infraction following the posting of the official race results.

Both the team and drivers lost 200 of its 350 WeatherTech Championship points earned in the race, all team and driver points from the Michelin Endurance Cup, loss of race prize money as well as a $50,000 fine.

Ferrari GT massively into the tires at the T1 exit, rolls into it's roof giving us the first safety car just 10 minutes in. Driver walking away

Luckily nobody was in the stands and the driver was uninjured. Maybe time for a rethink of that's turn's safety features?

Some background on those colors:

  Quote

Those tributes start on the outside, with the orange accent element from the Gulf livery most famously worn on the John Wyer-run factory 917s that starred in Steve McQueen's film Le Mans. Moving inward, the pink stripes represent the "Pink Pig" 917/20 that ran Le Mans in 1971 and returned as a GTE-Pro class winner in a tribute livery on the 2018 911 GT3 RSRs. Then comes the green from the "Hippie" 917 longtails, the light blue accent from the Martini-wrapped car that won Le Mans in 1977, the dark blue from the Rothmans 956s that won twice in the early 1980s, the red that gave the brand it's maiden victory on the Salzburg-run factory 917 shorttail in 1970, and, finally, the yellow from Penske's American Le Mans Series RS Spyder program.

Ferrari 499P is fast. Bad strategy to start on wets and bad luck to have to splash and dash under yellow. But still on the podium. Definitely has a shot at the top step at the 24.

Nicky Catsburg might be a wizard, brilliant defense in the Corvette the last two races.

Lilou Wadoux becomes the first woman to take the top step in an FIA world championship race in the GTE Am winning Ferrari.

My 19 yo is a Le Mans freak, and just found this. The movie Le Mans without all the dumb girl stuff. 43 minutes of racing.

A shortish track with a couple hundred*cars on it should be messy.

There was some amazing driving through traffic all day long, especially in the last 30 minutes. Being a Penske fanboy, I was hoping that they could catch the Caddy but there was too much traffic to shuffle through in the last few laps.

*hyperbole

last ~45 minutes was some nice continuous racing.

the 01 passed all the other GTPs on the way to victory, with van der zande at the wheel just two weeks after binning its look-a-like at spa.

great article on driving the glickenhaus at COTA:

  Quote

Nothing about the 007 is quiet. It’s always shouting. It has 671 hp, the limit for the class, and weighs at least 2270 pounds. On paper, those figures don’t look all that impressive for a race car. They are essentially meaningless. That first time at full throttle throws my brain for a loop. The narrow windshield tunnels forward vision as speed increases. I’ve never been in a car that goes through gears like this—every shift feels like a punch to the back of the head. Anti-lag allows the car to scamper out of corners like an animal with its tail on fire. Upshifts fly by until I touch 170 mph on COTA’s back straight in sixth. There is still another gear to use.

N24 live here:

the ring is insane.  there's a very broken subaru crabbing back to the pits.  commentary: they've got a 5 lap lead in class, so they've got 45 minutes to fix this

Weather @ Laguna Seca was great....thick fog cleared to blue sky as the IMSA race started. The miata race was started in fog so thick you couldn't see the cars on the course, much less the flag stations.  We were amazed that race was run. Interesting that there were more spectators at the track on Saturday then raceday.  The JDC Porsche prototype was delivered to the team on Tuesday, it first turned it's wheels at the Friday afternoon practice. As one JDC crewman said "it's cheaper to enter the race than rent a course for a shakedown". They did an impressive job just finishing the race. Laguna is a great place, but now it's a 1,000 mile drive for me, not the 300 it's been for decades. Back in August for Rennsport.
