When asked whether this was domestic terrorism, Sheriff Fields said he couldn’t say whether this was domestic terrorism or not, saying he would leave that for the feds to determine. But he added it was absolutely intentional and the perpetrators knew what they were doing.

It was an act of terrorism. Hope it was worth it, those involved are going to get very long prison stays

Yep, some reports that the dumbasses were talking about it on social media.  Given that it would take dumbasses to do something like this, it matches up, because dumbest timeline.

They are causing a shitload of monetary losses and have put a lot of,lives in danger they need to go away permanently.

She kinda looks like a less attractive, but not bad looking, version of that actress from "Gone Girl."

I'm sure it'll never be disclosed the connection, or lack of connection, to the other events taking place around that time in around that area.  But it does appear from the M.O. of the three locations, it was very likely to be the same group/person.  We don't want the thought police to devolve the criminal justice system to, "You committed these felonies.  And also, in addition to that...your political/religious background is this..."  The two can stay separate and parallel.  They may color one another, but it shouldn't be the "motive" in every single damn case.  Unless of course, you actually write an online manifesto stating your beliefs and why, what you are about to do, must be done.  But stupid people been tipping their hand on crime since the beginning of time.

These fucks will be easy to find and prosecute due to how ridiculously stupid they are.

Unfortunately this isn't the end of it, because many more slap dick idiots are going to cause a shit load of problems.

Organized groups of motivated idiots may be the most dangerous enemy we have ever faced.

Organized far-right groups have been developing plans to take down electric infrastructure and use the ensuing chaos to carry out assassinations.  This was probably a test run to see how law enforcement responds.

Friend whose parents are affected was mentioning that as serious as it’s being discussed in the news or in social media, it’s far worse than most can imagine.  Luckily his parents are rural and have a decent generator (they’ve lost power in the past during storms).  He said they’ve been told Thursday or Friday might be the earliest for power, and that everybody is absolutely on edge over this shit.

At least most people agree it’s terrorism and it’s good that the FBI is involved, and apparently they are moving very fast on this.  Hopefully they bury the shitstains who did this.

Edit: He said they’ve been in the 30s at night, which isn’t helping.

A car accident with injuries has already been attributed to the outage.

I would not be surprised if there are serious injuries, and maybe even a death or two, that ends up attributed to it.  I haven't thought through how it would all fit in to a full prosecution, but I think there are some enhancements to charges that could see the terrorists spending the rest of their lives in a cell.

Our federal laws against domestic terrorism are actually pretty weak....and we know they won't be amended anytime soon because CR reasons.  So, the charges could end being pretty fucking weak sauce.

The vulnerability of power stations was on 60 Minutes a week or two ago. Including attacks with rifles, how easy it is to do, and how hard it is to replace the damaged parts

Jon Wellinghoff: It was actually a very shocking result to us that there’s very few number of substations you need to take out, in the entire United States, to knock out the entire grid.

Bill Whitaker: Knock out the entire grid?

Jon Wellinghoff: That’s correct.

Bill Whitaker: How many would it take to knock out putting the entire country in a blackout?

Jon Wellinghoff: Less than 20.

The report was leaked to the Wall Street Journal. It found the U.S. could suffer a coast-to-coast blackout if saboteurs knocked out just nine substations.

Bill Whitaker: You are relaying this in a very measured way. I would think this would be quite alarming.

Jon Wellinghoff: It was alarming. There’s no question. It is alarming.

I’m curious. So if Plano and Frisco are such horrible places, what are the areas of Dallas that are so wonderful by comparison where the surly critics live?

Duh, White Settlement*

*Yes, I'm aware that this is techinically a Ft. Worth suburb.

Fwiw I used to be really into doomer fiction, and sniper attacks on transmission substations is a staple of the genre.

This is probably the best one that has come out recently, but it's a military thriller:
